My siblings before would put them out in the sun to ripen it, but I found that makes the jackfruit mushy. They would use a big cardboard and newspapers to make the cut easier. I was not a big fan of jackfruit because the ones I was eating were either too ripe or mushy. Until one day a few years back I went into this exotic fruit store that sells nice looking cut jackfruit. It is solid shape, nice smell, and stays fresh for days. After going back there a few times seeing the lady owner and her husband cut the jackfruits daily I noticed that they cut just a small portion of it to make sure it is ripe and they kept the seeds inside to help keep its shape and freshness. Started to learn to buy and cut the jackfruit and it is amazing.

These videos are so helpful. I just had a jackfruit for the first time today and even though I liked it, I can now say it wasn’t ripe.

How can you tell that it wasn't ripe? This is the issue I may be having

The Jackfruit I have is flat and browning in many places yet green in other and starting to deteriorate in spot where it was sitting in a box for a few days. It has no smell. The stem is all brown now. Is it time to cut or should I wait? The fruit is bigger than a large watermelon. 35 lbs Thank you 🙏🏽

I watched plenty of “how to pick a jackfruit”. That’s the way my jackfruit has looked like. Not a ripe one yet. 2lbs for $1. I’ll pick the 4th one tonight

Thank you. Is the sticky a way that the plant tries to protect itself? Because the seeds are not yet fully developed? Does the sticky go away only if a Jackfruit has been tree ripened?
@MsFitVegan2 жыл бұрын
No. I’ve had great non sticky jackfruit that was ripened off the tree. Jackfruit is one of the fruits that can ripen after harvest ☺️☺️☺️

@@MsFitVegan Thank you Jeannette. I found this video by Eva of Naturally Rawsome... kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGSqnohvnMRnZ8k She said the fruit has to be a darker yellow colour, with a darker skin. She also said the fruit should be easy to remove from the pods and there is no stickyness when the fruit is fully ripe. Would you agree? I am quite new to Jackfruit, and would like to make a video about it, once I gain some experience.

Also, thanks for the video. A friend introduced me to your channel this week. I pray your roommate will not kill you.

I have a large Jackfruit Tree about 25 feet. The last two years I have done quite well with it. This year they are taking forever to ripen. The smell isn't there as well as the outside is still spikey and not flat. They are extremely large. The neighbor kids wanted to be a monkey so they came and cut 17 of them down. I still have ten left on the very top of the tree, though again they are hard. My question is will they ripen faster being off the tree?
@santanadebbarma58858 ай бұрын
Yeah but you have to keep it in a dry but shady place like in a temperature of 25-30°C .
@santanadebbarma58858 ай бұрын
But it may also remain a little raw. It is best to ripe in tree.

You said fresh jackfruit tastes like cotton candy (yum) so do you know why the canned, plain jackfruit and the jackfruit sandwiches have a sour taste (yuck)?
@amandadangerfieldpiano2 жыл бұрын
I never liked cotton candy. Haha
@hoon_sol2 жыл бұрын
First of all, it's almost always unripe, secondly some of the preservatives often used are sour, and thirdly it might also have begun to ferment.
@MsFitVegan2 жыл бұрын
because they use the white part of the fruit that is inedible!

@@MsFitVegan: It's sad not to have access year round to high-quality tropical fruits sun-ripened fresh from the trees. Check out this video by Miami Fruit if you haven't already: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJyQcqdtfdGqsNU Look at that color and how easily they open it, not to mention the texture when they pull it apart. Now that's what I call ripe.
@roopa2243 Жыл бұрын
It is wrong info that it is not going to stick if it is ripened. Jackfruit always sticks and telling with experience as ate all my life. Regardless always apply coconut oil to knife and hands. Always have a newspaper or some kind of boxed paper in the bottom
@mandym87812 жыл бұрын
So much work, but I bet it's delicious 😋
@hoon_sol2 жыл бұрын
Well, when it's fully ripe, it will not be any shade of green at all, and it will come apart very easily, so easily that you can just pull it apart with your hands. The one you show here is definitely at an edible stage, but it's not fully ripe.
