Great stuff. Is there any way you can now reach out to Varjo, and find out whether they will be able to implement motion reprojection for the Aero? They’ve been saying its coming since the Aero came out, but still nothing. They’ve already apparently hinted that the local dimming feature they were supposed to also implement (to improve black levels) possibly may not happen. Not sure sure why. Must be some technical issues? Is the same going to be true for the reprojection? I’m starting to wonder. I know you don’t like reprojection, but a lot do, and for me it`s a deal breaker whether or not I ever get an Aero. Cheers mate!

@PIE IN THE SKY TOURS - Thanks a lot for the settings suggestions. I run a Varjo Aero on an i7 11700K with RTX 3080 gfx, which is close enough to what you use that your settings mostly work for me. One small change that makes a visible difference for me is pushing Anisotropic filtering all the way up to 16, which really helps seeing runway markings and other details from the ground on tiny low-detail back-country airstrips.

@justaguydoinstuff2 жыл бұрын
@@PIEINTHESKYTOURS Thanks! How much did your frame rate improve with it turned on would you say?
@mbucchia2 жыл бұрын
@@justaguydoinstuff I don't know if you've been using the Fixed Foveated rendering (FFR) option before. Turning on this feature is what gives you the performance boost. People report up to 25% boost (thought it really depends on your CPU and GPU). Without eye tracking, the down-side is that you can observe pixelation near the edges of the screen. In this new version, thanks to the eye tracking, you should not be able to see the pixelation while keeping the same performance boost as before.

I have successfully downloaded the XR Toolkit, but I’m struggling to actually open the ‘menu’. It’s probably a stupid question - until you know how. “Once installed, please run the desired OpenXR application and use CTRL+F2 to open the configuration menu:…” Where do you actually go to run the app? I’ve found it in ‘downloads’ and have the Companion App on desktop, the green confirms it’s loaded. There are so many small ‘problems’ like this to overcome, I feel like an idiot! 😵💫 Thanks in anticipation.

I've found that after getting the foveated rendering enabled via OpenXR Toolkit, if you then enable DLSS in Quality mode in MSFS and set AMD FidelityFX Sharpening to 200 you get much smoother rendering with virtually no loss of visual fidelity. It also allowed me to crank up a lot of the other settings and get things looking much nicer while still having smooth performance. I have an i9-9900k and a 3090ti. Here are my settings that I've been using in MSFS... Anti-Aliasing: NVIDIA DLSS NVIDIA DLSS: Quality AMD FidelityFX Sharpening: 200 Reprojection Mode: Off World Scale: 100 Terrain Level of Detail: 105 Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching: Ultra Terrain Vector Data: Ultra Buildings: High Trees: High Grass and Bushes: Low Objects Level of Detail: 100 Volumetric Clouds: High Texture Resolution: Ultra Anisotropic Filtering: 16x Texture Supersampling: 8x8 Texture Synthesis: Ultra Water Waves: Medium Shadow Maps: 768 Terrain Shadows: 512 Contact Shadows: High Windshield Effects: High Ambient Occlusion: Ultra Cubemap Reflections: 256 Raymarched Reflections: High Light Shafts: Ultra Bloom: On Glass Cockpit Refresh Rate: High Once you get these settings dialed in well for yourself I highly recommend going to your MSFS folder and editing the UserCfg.opt file. Find the PostProcess section under the GraphicsVR section and change Sharpen from 1 to 0. This will fix that horrible shimmer that you get on the trees in VR by default. Next save the file and then right click on it, go to properties, click Read-only under the Attributes section at the bottom then click Apply. That will keep MSFS from messing with the Sharpen setting, though note that if you need to permanently modify any settings in MSFS you'll need to disable the read-only flag on this file beforehand. Note that after enabling these I played with the Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation, settings under the Appearance section in OpenXR Toolkit until I had things looking as realistic as possible. I found that once I had cranked Light Shafts to Ultra enabling Bloom was required to really round out the lighting effect and provide a realistic level of depth. Once those effects were active I found that I needed to adjust those Appearance settings in OpenXR Toolkit to get the lighting at the right levels. Obviously not everyone has an i9 processor or a 3090ti but even if you don't you can still benefit by enabling DLSS and tweaking your settings until you get it as good as you can get it. Hope this helps someone out. In terms of the OpenXR Toolkit appearance settings, this is what I've settled on so far though I still need to do a bit of very fine tuning but it's mostly there... Sun Glasses: Off Contrast: 48.3 Brightness: 43.9 Exposure: 48 Saturation: 50 Vibrance: 0.2 Highlights: 0 Shadows: 0.4

if I am playing it with virtual desktop than NO, just if I am on the link cable. but as I explained it looks bad on my link cable. another issue that is very confusing is understanding the correlation between different params (ex. render resolution in the oculus app, you choose 90 Mhz with 1.1, and the size percent in the openXR toolkit, you are running it on 110% with resolution of 1804x1818). I mean if I have not close to a smooth performance, I need to reduce something, what would you start to reduce from? is it from the oculus app resolutions, or maybe from toolkit params or from the MSFS settings (like render or other param). confusing... I wish someone will have a tutorial about how to configure quest 2 (or other VR set) right. what is the starting point and what are the next steps to try in order to get the best performance with our personal equipments. tnx again and if you have this kind of information I am sure it will help bunch of pc pilots.
