Really happy to see test results, thanks Neil! I also received information back in December 2022 that CreatorPro X17 is EOP (end of production) and that new upgreaded version will be availiable sometimes in Q2 2023. So I cannot even order this current version, at least here in Slovenia.

So grateful for your 7770 reviews. We were close to purchase, simply assuming that the specs would be "delivered"! It would have been hugely embarrassing.

just got a 7780 nvidia 3500 and they must have fixed something - got cinebench multicore 23959. There being no TB4 dock that can deliver power is crazy to me. Work had to get me the W19DCS a usb-c dock.

We were all upgraded to Dell 7670s at work. It handles Catia surfacing like a bin, my soundcard was defective straight out of the box. Loads of people have the same issues with the soundcards. Seems like someone has screwed up badly with the 7670s...... At least this batch.
@Neil3D2 жыл бұрын
Do you know what... that's weird. About 6-7 weeks ago I thought I'd give it a try using the 7770 as my daily, just to see if all the problems really are show stopping. I spent 2 days getting all my stuff ported over, and the reason I ditched it was for... the sound card. Every now and again it would give off this bugged 'stutter' sound like when your system blue screens and its playing sound at the time, it's a repeat juddering note type thing. I honestly thought it had to be a one off with my system. Does that sound like the issue you had?
@aeywyn52302 жыл бұрын
@@Neil3D Exactly the same issue, it would make a stutter sound. After that teams and my microphone would stop working and eventually the sound card crashing completely. IT department doesn't want to know about it but it is getting a bit obvious there's something majorly wrong when all the old Dell's works fine. I have a 7730 as a loaner now that works flawless eventhough it has a few years on it.

@@Neil3D Dell must be struggling, the computer spent nearly 3 solid weeks at Dell after it got sent in at the beginning of February. Still waiting for the IT department to sort whatever that was left to fix.

As a pro user (I'm a freelancing software architect), I very much prefer a laptop that comes without any LED glitter. I often have my machines run for weeks, e.g. when rendering images in Maxon Cinema 4D or SolidWorks PhotoView 360. Then I don't want them to interfere with my normal daily work or private life. (Imagine myself sitting in a bank tower open office, editing some code, while my laptop performs Saturday Night Fever.) At home, I even covered the new DRAMs I bought for my main tower PC with gaffer tape, so the disco light they show off won't bother me when I'm having dinner or watching television. I need my machines to be as little intrusive and non-emitting as they can get. Silent, dark, fast, reliable. And I need a full keyboard for typing code and documents, e.g. when I'm sitting in a small hotel room or while I'm riding on a train. I honestly cannot understand what drives notebook designers' decisions when it comes to designing a decent keyboard. My DELL XPS 1730 and DELL Precision M6700 all came/come with a decent, full keyboard. I very much need this for my daily work. So, why do WORKSTATION (i.e. professional) notebooks come with a crippled keyboard nowadays? All navigation keys have been shrunk or double assigned to function keys. I wonder what's going on in those hardware designers' minds …

Please do a CreatorPro X18 HX A14VMG review. How it is compared to CreatorPro X17HX A13VM when we talk about thermal management?

Great review and I just subscribed but when you're speaking and turn your head to grab a computer, your microphone loses you a bit. Just a quick friendly heads-up. I'm not sure what the best enhancement/fix would be but maybe an accompanying shirt mic could help?

I am confused as the Dell is about 2600 and the MSI prices are around 6000 - ?? Great video - Neil - you know your Laptops! The 7770 seems fast to me compared to a M2 MacBook !!! Tried running investor in Parallels, no chance!

The MSI CreatorPro X17 hasn't been available for months alas. We expect the new generation with the 13th gen HX processors to be available from late May through Cadware in the Benelux and Germany and probably in the rest of the world as well. The CreatorPro Z models have been a siginificant upgrade to the previous generations as well. They have performed so well, that the 13th gen versions will be available with the same HX processors as the X17 (instead of the standard H processors). The build of the CreatorPro Z models is significantly different. They are sleek, very compact, a lot lighter and have an impressive build quality. Compared to the X17 they will had less expandability and fewer interfaces.

Support is a huge deal for me - I would still go Dell or HP. I live in New Zealand and next day on-site support is imperative. Asus, MSI etc have nice hardware but nothing that comes close with support. Also 13 gen coming out now, hopefully they have done better with power support?

Interestingly the 7780 STILL has a 240w brick and apparently 4k screens are unavailable so you're stuck with 1080 - on a 17" screen. And also STILL has a 1Gbe port, just like my ancient M4800! Pretty impressed with these overall from your review, so I think I'll just hold out for then X18 or whatever it will be called mainly for portable use with Davinci and Solidworks. Davinci actually needing more GPU power than SW based on my experience. And hey, 4K and at least 2.5Gbe for moving big files and for backups.

Great review. My (limited) understanding of DDR5 is that it effectively incorporates some aspects of ECC as part of its 'normal' design. Would there be any advantage of having DDR5 'full ECC' in a laptop workstation? (unless you are designing rockets or something where any bit flip could be disasterous)? In Australia, I have found the 12th Gen HP Omens + 3070 Ti very cost effective with excpeptional thermal handling. (...but you have to kit them out yourself with 64 Gig DDR5, max only 32 Gig offered) edit: looked up more info. It is actully misleading. DDR5 only has some checking on-die, but it does not fix CPU to Memory bit flips.

I just got a metrology grade blue laser 3D scanner which scans at up to almost 3 million points per second and high res scans Boggs my xeon w10855m down. So I can’t wait for months to get a new mobile ws and after seeing this video I was very interested in the x17 but then I seen the x17 with 13th gen processors are preorder. So my question is, would you just be patient and wait for the 13980hx x17 to be released ? The only problem I have is I can’t find anything on when they will actually be shipping.

So this is the best part of a 3 grand laptop (looking at the Amazon link). Question... For this kind of cost, would I be compromising on performance to go for a mobile workstation like this (even with its incredible specs) as opposed to putting my money on a fixed tower? Would be good to maybe see a video on a bang for buck mobile v fixed workstation equation? I do the vast majority of my work from my home office now but being able to occasionally close the lid and take 'the computer' with me out and about would be great. Or am I better off getting the highest powered PC tower I can for my money given I work from home 95% of the time? Presumably that would give me the same of even better spec for less cost?! Cheers!
