The MSI Claw First Look after 3 days of use with many many hours and no sleep. It seems like there is so much potential here but will MSI be able to fix the issues?

I applaud you for making the Claw your daily driver! Sky's the limit from here every single handheld pc had a lot of hiccups at launch! Looking at Intel and their Arc GPU's their launch's seemed mirrored rocky at first than constant driver updates have made them the best value in gpu's

No matter what software updates or driver updates they push out it’s not going to fix how horrible the buttons are, especially the dpad and the shoulder buttons. The joysticks are the only redeeming factor about this device. Also, anyone who was remotely interested in upgrading the storage is going to find out quickly that you will have to void the warranty removing sticker, only to find out that you have to remove the heat sink/fan to get to the nvme which is also a 2230 and there’s no room for a heat sink or a 2280 adapter. This device is completely dead on arrival. I had so much more high hopes for it but unfortunately I had to destroy it in the review. MSI really should have consulted some professionals in the industry and sent out some samples to people so they could test out the buttons at the very least. Also, the temps were quite bad as well and the fan curves are quite too low and they need to add a temperature overlay. It’s quite suss that they didn’t have that from the get go but now we know why it’s hitting over 100°C in many scenarios

As much as I really want the claw and want to see it succeed, i will have to wait for some kind of discount. Here's hoping they bring good, quality updates.

I just got the Legion Go, and love it. Probably going to sell my Steam Deck since I don't see any reason to use it. I've been getting 70 to 80 fps playing Destiny 2 on high texture.

You all should really get the MSI Claw Intel 5 too ETA Prime did a video and it was seemingly performing better in a lot of cases than the more expensive intel 7 model!

I was watching that video, the 5 was not even in my radar, but I'm guessing the power requirements and heat draw on 7 was just too much for the system.

I wish the msi claw used nvme ssds instead of the 2230 ssd. I was hoping that msi was going to use nvme ssds instead of 2230 ssds since there is no 4tb 2230 not even on amazon but there is a 4tb nvme ssd. 1 tb and 2tb is barely enough for large library of games from steam, epic, gog games etc. I wish the msi claw an option to download and install msi dragon center for pc monitoring and adjusting fan curves and after burner for overclocking the device. I always install after burner on every windows gaming device even with non msi devices.
@Invid72
@Invid72 Ай бұрын
Just a couple of tips to help your drive search. NVME SSD is the type of SSD. 2230 is the size - 22mm wide by 30 mm long. Most standard PCs take a 2280 NVMD SSD but can use the smaller drives too, either directly or with an adapter for the extra length.. 2230 drives have a maximm available size of 2TB in March 2024.

@@Invid72 I just wish the handheld gaming devices uses the same type of nvme ssds like the samsung 980 and samsung 990 nvme gum stick style ssds. The 2230 ssd reminds me of a square shape band aid in a ssd form factor while the 2280 ssd reminds me of a stick of gum in a ssd form factor. I would use crucial t700 gen 5 nvme ssd highest capacity or sabrent rocket 4tb nvme ssd if the handheld gaming devices uses the 2280 form factor. I'm leaning more towards the gen 5 crucial nvme because of the read 12,400 mb and 11,800 mb write speeds at least for now or until there will even be a faster nvme ssd than crucial current gen 5 nvme ssd. I'm hoping that ssd speeds will reach 100gb read speeds and 100 gb write speeds that way the games and any large files like 4k video files will be done in an instant and be done within less than a minute or faster. I transfer a large library of 4k video files with copying data and transferring 4k video files that's why I need the fastest read and write speeds like with the highest capacity of hard disk drives but in a ssd form factor with the read and write speeds of the current ssd available or when something that is faster that comes along whenever it will happen. I have century link with 940 mbps download and 940 mbps upload speeds but it's still not fast enough and when I used to have comcast, it was too slow and unreliable plus it's only $65 a month every month with century link and I have way better experience with century link compared to comcast that's why I left comcast. I mentioned century link because when downloading games from my steam library even with the fastest speeds that I currently have, it's still not fast enough. For example downloading a 150gb game still takes too long to download and even for the installation process. I was hoping that downloading a 150gb game would take a minute or less to complete the download and installation process. I don't like waiting that long for the games to download and install. I have the 2022 razer blade 15 with its 4k 144 hz display with the Intel core i9-12900h, 32gb ram and 3080 ti gpu 16gb vram version and 1tb ssd. Even the ssd on my razer gaming laptop is still not fast enough to download a 150gb game and especially when I'm trying to download multiple games with large file games that still takes too long to finish downloading and installing. I hope that there will be games that will have no loading screen at all like the era of video games like from the super nintendo, n64 and sega genesis with there cartridges but have it apply to modern games on pc and modern game consoles.

If You want performance and optimizations go for it, you won't regret it, the Rog Ally is the best on the market when it's about power, even when compared with devices with the same APU like Legion go, this is because the Rog Ally is really good optimized. Go for Legion if you like similar performance and super huge screen. I'm so happy with my Ally I didn't expect to finish Twisted Metal for PS3 ( the most difficult game to emulate on Rpcs3) on this handheld, but Rog Ally + Lossless scaling made the trick with very good performance all along the entire game which as i stated I got it finished . And Twisted Metal still displayed as not playable on Rpcs3 public list. The Ally is a beast. I had to keep it plugged though to exploit the max power with 30 watts. Do not expect long battery life when unplugged though, with 25watts it won't last more of 50 minutes if you run a AAA game. Anything less than a AAA game and adjusting the needed power will affect positively the battery life. You could get 90 minutes or so.
