Shoutout to MSI for loaning me the MSI Claw to check out for myself. This is a handheld I really enjoyed using and one I would consider buying.

Probably one of the nicer reviews of the MSI Claw which in a way, also highlights it's biggest problem in that it is kinda lost in the shuffle of the many PC gaming handhelds in the market at the moment. There's also the fact that its performance is very hit or miss. For example, I watched another reviewer showing the Claw doing terrible with playing Cyberpunk 2077 and there seems to be a much bigger rise and fall of framerates in games than other handhelds like the Ally or the Steam Deck. I know people are sick of hearing this by now, but I'm in the bandwagon that agrees that in terms of a balanced experience with a decent price, the best PC gaming handheld at the moment is still the Steam Deck OLED. I'm Australian too, so I used Kogan (directly, not their third-party suppliers) to get my own SD OLED and despite the many risks (Valve will not support you for buying it not through them), I have no regrets getting one. While the Windows handhelds have better opportunities to maximize your gaming experience, the Steam Deck has way less headaches and is more stable.

I definitely think there are way too many Win11 handhelds and my first experience was with the ROG Ally that was completely broken upon first ever start up and burnt my hand 🔥 So I really wasn't ready for another Win11 device - I was preparing to buy a SD OLED this year sometime. But I actually had a good experience with this device - noting again the type of games I play. They are Indies, they're low performance, they don't require much so that probably helped me to have a good experience. I'm not saying this doesn't have issues because for me, it did and that was battery life. And I believe that's a huge problem for all these win handhelds as they are drawing so much extra power that a gamer like me doesn't care for. I want a unit that has a dedicated operating system and lets me game with minimal issues and longer battery and that very well could be the Steam Deck. I can't lie and say this device was bad for me because it just wasn't. I also went in with the intention to talk about my time with it and just express my personal experience. I don't get to keep this, and if buying a SD becomes a problem depending on where I import it from / who I buy from, I think an Ultra 5 model of this would be sufficient for me. I adore ROG, but the experience I had with the Ally was absolutely dreadful and I wouldn't buy one again, even if they fixed issues, even if I was completely unlucky and got a random dud. Ayaneo have waaaaay too many devices and I'm totally confused by them so wont look in their direction. Lenovo Legion GO, ehh, the design I don't like.

@@Liessshy I can understand and to be fair, the Claw does look nice and will have less issues with smaller games unlike AAA ones. Would be interesting to see where MSI goes from here. Judging by what you're looking for, you'll definitely love the Steam Deck OLED. The battery life on it is amazing and the OLED version has a bigger battery than the original. More importantly, less heating issues compared to Win11 handhelds. I have an Ayaneo 2 and it's a marvelous device but apart from a notoriously poor customer service, the Ayaneo 2's battery drains quite quick and the whole thing gets really hot after about an hour of gaming. Sadly, never gonna buy from them again. Now, if only Valve officially opens to Deck orders from Australia as well so that we can have proper support here.

Handhelds are the wild west at the moment, for better or worse! Good point on the Ultra 5 vs 7. I wonder if it would be THAT different, but would take the tradeoff for an extra half hour or so of battery. If not for the integrated Arc graphics then I'd love to see how an Intel EVO would go for battery life!

I have the steam deck, rog ally, and claw. The claw is easily the most comfortable to use for extended sessions. It’s got a few issues that Mai and intel are ironing out, but I’m certain in 3 to 6 months it’ll be amazing.

TBH, if you primarily run Steam games and indies to boot, you're probably better off with a Steam Deck OLED. It will solve your battery life issues and it handles indies and older AAA games with ease. It can even do many of the newer AAA games. It also has a huge, dedicated community if you need help with any issues.

Nice review!! I've been thinking of getting a PC handheld, as modern console gaming I do not think I will be a part of for much longer. I play a lot of retro games(I have a lot of older consoles)so this is very helpful. As it always is. And also apparently my boss is a dev for Microsoft, and he told me about they might remaster Fallout 3 and New Vegas with new stuff to reflect the new Amazon series. We will see if he's right! Anyway, you take care and happy gaming!! 😊🖖🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🎮 Marcus

I still can't decide what direction I want to take for a PC handheld as I know windows 11 is my issue, but I had a good time with this device as it worked well for me (aside from battery life). Very cool indeed! Time will tell if they get a remaster. Take care Marcus!

Oh wow, you had this already? Nice. I have to agree with you, I'd love a handheld like this that doesn't waste so much power on Windows OS so I can have more battery life for gaming. Would be interesting to see what kind of results you'd get if you installed SteamDeck OS on this. Excellent review sis. Love your work

Thanks mate! I think for the kind of gamer I am, something like a Steam Deck is probably more ideal for me. I just find that priorities in PC handhelds are a bit skewed because you'd think battery life would be a much higher thought on the list? Nonetheless, this worked really well for me across the board and I'm still impressed 👍🏻

It's overpriced compared to the competition. Once they get more production going hopefully they can shave off $100-$150. These PC handhelds remind me of the early 32-bit consoles in the mid-90s before Playstation took over. Hardware makers experimenting but the software is lacking. MSI and Intel need to work together to make a more intuitive user interface. It still feels like it needs mouse and keyboard.

@@kyledoesntgetit5602 Even the Z1 base right now I believe is on sale for $300 at best buy, similar frame rates as the Claw. At least MSI and Intel tried, they got a long way to go for low TDP performance.

Did you get paid to talk about this in a positive light? This is the first positive review I've seen...... You should have bought a steam deck OLED or a ROG Ally...... But the indie game affinity you have ..... Steam deck battery life is bar-none....... All the biggest nerds on the internet have had..... Not great things to say about this device
@Liessshy
@Liessshy Ай бұрын
No I didn't get paid to talk about this. It has to be listed as a "paid advertisment" because by law in Australia, anything you're given (loan or not) to make content on is technically an ad. I was given the chance to check this out as a loan. Did you watch the video? I said I'm new to the world of PC handhelds. I owned the ROG Ally and it was a complete dud upon buying it on release. It physically burnt my hand so I had to return it to the retailer I bought it from. The only bit of content I ever made on it was an unboxing to my Instagram, didn't get even a chance to use it because it failed from the start. This video is an EXPERIENCE that I had with the MSI Claw and it worked fine for me, except for battery life where it lacked. I would buy this for myself because it worked for me, if I didnt mind having win11 But A Steam Deck - although on my list of possible purchases - isn't available to walk in and buy in Australia, and has to be imported. So I have to be careful where I buy from but I know I am a user who doesn't need Win11 so SteamOS would be better for me. Just because I had a good experience with it doesn't mean I got paid for it. Would you like to see my bank account? 🤣

You'd think she would have done a little research herself about all of her options before buying the poorly reviewed(so far) MSI Claw......
