I have the 11th Gen GF66 Katana for 2 years and still holds up to be my main device till this day, no hiccups at all. In the B12V and 13th gen you'll need to contact MSI to have the bracket for that second NVMe slot which is indeed a bummer as it is an additional step to upgrade the storage.

​@@AliAli-ly1eu depends on your market or local prices, as I would recommend the said model if it is only 5-10% cheaper than other brands with the same specifications (like cheaper compared to the legion or if the price is similar to the LOQ I woud get it). As in my time I got mine, it is cheaper by around 40% compared to the competitors (like the lenovo and asus on my area). Or would suggest if you could get a 3060 variant if like you're using Davinci Resolve or GPU intensive task as there pretty significant uplift in performance as well as has significantly better price to fps/performance ratio usually on the laptops with the said GPU. Tho if the availability in your market for only the budget you have has only 1650, 2050, and 3050 in any day I would grab the 3050 one.

There is a small but important mistake in your video at 8:24 . It has a usb-c type connector but it's not thunderbolt. I wish it was because I just bought this exact model and wanted to buy a docking station with PD , but I don't think it supports that... look at the sign next to the usb-c port. It's not a "lightning" sign. Please correct me if I'm wrong! But I don't think I am because I went through the documentation of MSI and they only support PD with certain models like the vector, stealth and raider.

You cannot plug it with external powercord, its only supports displayport fetaures.

After about 4 years of use, yesterday my left hinge finally broke on my MSI GE 73 RGB 8RF (July 2023). Now I am looking at the *MSI Katana 15* because its the best laptop in terms of performance-price to replace the old one. But there is a great issue which has me concerned, as *the MSI Katana 15 also appears to have the same lame hinges…* I think they make those horrendous hinge designs on purpose, look up “Planned Obsolescence” in wikipedia.

You might want to look away from recent msi laptops, from what I see, it seems like the newer ones break much faster as opposed to the older ones. Looks like msi has shifted to this planned obsolescence movement

I have an old gtx 1060 gp62 i think and the hinges had plastic covers that have broken off a while ago fortunately the hinge itself still works

I had lenovo legion 7, that I used for , vfx, nothing too heavy, but used frequently, the heat coming off the base panel, warped the monitor, the hinges cracked, and the monitor began to separate at the seems, to the point it couldn't be closed, all within 6 months, I took out extended warranty, and had an engineer visit to replace the screen but he also said it was likely to happen again, lenovo support was an absolute nightmare to deal with ,I persisted until I was refunded

I have an old msi stealth latop(1060). Paint has come off the trackpad and keys but the hinges are fine. The battery has died though so it has to be plugged in during use. Looking for a new laptop now and am trying to decide between the katana, cyborge or maybe one of the new studio ones... Thanks for the video. This helps me in making my decision.

@@massivelykai well it spikes to max 96 CPU but I play heavy games like hogwarts legacy, but since my laptop is less than a month old I'd expect this temperature is meant to be like this since it's obviously not dust or dried thermal paste

You get metal frame that u can screw in and there is a hole to properly screw the m2 drive. U send em shipping info via support page and they giving u that piece free of charge. Its on the video right above the initial m2 slot. U need to take out the black plastic piece that he touched and u ready to go. They give u also thermalpad u can put instead of this plastic thingy which will make your m2 drive cooler.

Unfortunately msi laptops build quality sucks, I would suggest paying extra for something like Asus, lenovo, razer, Alienware but not msi, even acer has better build quality I had msi before and the mic stopped working after a year, I never ever had this problem with any other laptop I owned

What about Asus Tuf A15? To me it's alright for the current price. The only issue I see with it is the thermal throttling but that can be improved through undervolting, limiting tdp etc. Currently trying to decide between these 2.
