Im so excited my creeping Jenny not only thrived outdoors all winter, but has also just flowered !! I was so surprised ! it didn't flower last year . I haven't put any fish into the pond yet, but its looking good this year for its 3rd season. I just have to say as I'm sitting in bed on my laptop, with my two dogs, all I could think about was how lovely your yard and deck look! Nice shade, trees flowing in the breeze and the birds chirping, I bet I could sit there all day ! Keep up the great work ! And I hope you take some time to sit and enjoy it all !

When I pot pond plants with koi, I always put larger stones on top to prevent the fish from rooting up the plants and keep the water clean. I also raise my pots near the surface so the fish can’t access tender shoots. Just some helpful tips for ones with naughty fish!! I made a video on it if interested.

Putting in my first big summer tub I went from a 20 gallon up to 150 gallon wish me luck! I’m doing it just for one 8 inch swim bladder challenged white long thin goldfish need some place to swim and stretch out and have lots of plants to sleep in because he can’t control where he sleeps because of his swim bladder issues bless his heart
@Strongerthandirt86955 ай бұрын
I used to have that swim bladder problem with fancy goldfish. I was told it was probably from a couple of things... too many pellets and not enough roughage (like Romaine lettuce which all mine get now) and/or eating from the surface of the water and gulping too much air. I now feed my goldfish mostly repashy and that has really helped to eliminate any swim bladder issues I used to have. Good luck with yours! xo

I have a 20 gallon round tub for putting in a wooden barrel. it was in one and I did water gardens for a few seasons, but I separated it and the wooden barrel is just soil and wildflowers now. I still have the tub, I was using it to catch rain water for carnivorous plants, but I want to properly fill it up again and do a pond. I have 3 Sarracenia on the way, someone offered them up for sale in a group I'm in online for 20 bucks shipped. Really good deal. So either floating carnivorous planter or bog garden, I think.

Great video! Watched it a few times. When using the floating planters, what is the bottom part that floats in the water made of? Is it porous so the roots stay moist? And why did you then put it in an aquatic basket? Thank you for patience with my questions... I'm a beginner at this!
@RachelOLeary4 ай бұрын
The floating planters are mesh, so those I just plant as they are. The plastic baskets that I put in various levels of the tubs I line woth paper so that the soil doesn't leak out. Hope that helps!

It seems there are a lot of people who are tired of all the Chemicals they have to add, plus the cost ! And sence I do not swim, its perfect for me !! Any tips !! Maybe you could do something like this ? Thank you for your time !!

It's hard to go wrong planting a lotus. I love the way the foliage stands proud of the water and collects little droplets of water, and the blooms are just so extra. Wait, didn't you visit a place with like a zillion lotus last summer?

Informative and interesting. Greetings from the Western prairies of Canada. It's my first year with a fish pond (750 g). Today I finally got to a place that sells water lilies. They had a bunch of other pond plants so I was like a kid in a candy store. Due to high winds and on & off rain, I didn't get a chance to repot them yet. In fact the winds knocked over some of my marginal plants and all their pea gravel top layer is lost in the depths. The hardy water lily is submerged in about 3 feet of water. Is that too deep? I could sink down some bricks to sit it on if it is. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video and will continue watching.

I’ve been thinking about setting up a small tub with some of the wild wetland plants by my home in coastal SC. Been collecting small portions of those in no danger of depletion and propagating them for inside use, and there’s no risk of the plants getting loose into the local ecosystem. Have you tried swamp milkweed In a pond?

Hi Rachel! Don't know if you still get notifications on old videos, but...I'm doing a summer tub for 1st time with things I have mostly. Clean black plastic bin, prob 30 gal or so. Excited to try. After rewatching this vid I realize a) I should repot the 3 plants I did purchase and b) don't have more aquatic soil. Do you think I can i use a mix of organic potting soil and part of a large coconut coir slab (15x15 x ~2)? They will be in 2 of those plastic woven baskets zip tied to edge. Thanks!!

Hi, l have found your UTube channel very informative, visually enjoyable and deepens my knowledge of eco systems and biological balance in aquarium keeping. I would like to ask if Indian Almond leaves can also be beneficial for Lake Tanganikan cichlids (cyprochromis) ? Anti bacterial and I have heard it kills internal parasites. I would like to hear from you, Tx
@RachelOLeary4 жыл бұрын
As a clear, hard water fish, I dont think it would be of much benefit to them long term, but probably would not be of detriment
@felmadorol34884 жыл бұрын
@@RachelOLeary thank you for your reply, I have watched documentaries on Lake Tanganika and the lake is fed by rivers and streams, also has vegetation along the shores, so Almond leaves, could aid in lessening bacteria , as long as it's only 1/2 leaves dependent on tank size 👍
