I never got the appeal of Danny Zuko. He constantly chooses his buddies and bad boy image over a sweet girl like Sandy, whom he genuinely likes. While they both change for each other in the end, his change is less dramatic than hers.

@@melshiaty I was 12 years old when I seen the movie Grease for the first time way back in January 2003. I was in the sixth grade at the time. I didn’t notice anything wrong or bad about the movie until just a few years ago. First of all, Danny is such a jerk, and Sandy should’ve broken up with him the first time that he was being a jerk to her. She deserved better. Secondly, Sandy should’ve called the police on Danny for groping her. Finally, Rizzo is the true hero of the movie!

In the case of Austin Ames, I excuse him because he is still a teen figuring out what he wants and struggling with the expectations thrown on him by his dad. Adults, no excuses. And he did try to break up with Shelby but she wasn't having it, if I remember correctly.. or am I wrong?

The way Noah forced Allie to go out with her was extremely wrong. But the movie is about how they both grew up over time ,became different people, better people, found their strengths and weaknesses and still realised that they really really loved each other. That was the one thing about them that didn't change. Let's please not overlook Noah's character growth.

The "current day" love interest from 'Age of Adaline'- Ellis Jones (Michael Huisman). He was too pushy and kind of manipulative. 1) When they first met, Adaline (Blake Lively) kept polite but distant conversation, rebuffing his attention. He continues to try to engage her, following her into the elevator (forcing the door open before it closes), out of the building where he forceful stops her taxi before she can ride away. 2) He shows up at the archives where she works, revealing that he is a member of the board and had seen her before introducing himself at the party. That means he knew who she was and where she worked, but did not indicate this whatsoever upon meeting. 3) He came to her place of work under the pretense of donating $50,000 worth of rare books to the archives. He says he will not donate the books unless she takes a picture with him, receiving the donation on the library's behalf. When she declines (4 TIMES!!), his ultimatum is she will go on a date with him instead. That is essentially blackmail. 4) When she is not answering his calls, he shows up unannounced at her home. She never gave him her address. Those are some main examples. I honestly liked the bittersweet "past" romance she had with William (Harrison Ford). I am not suggesting they should have ended up together, but I surely did not think Ellis was worth it.

Joe begins to quietly pursue Kathleen after realizing he had actually found someone special. He did not want to become like his father who hadn't truly connected with the women in his life. Joe would also learn to appreciate Kathleen's love and knowledge of books. She helped a customer at Fox Books when one of his staff could not. Joe later hires the equally knowledgeable George from Kathleen's shop to improve the children's department.

All these look harmless in comparison to most telenovela male leads, lol. Louis Fernando de la Vega anyone? In all seriousness, the notebook is revered as this super romantic film yet it's about two people who constantly yell and gaslight each other relentlessly for two hours straight. He never took responsibility for his actions or cared about finding his lost son, but instead BLAMED his wife for not sleeping with him due to severe depression and cheated on her with their adopted daughter's nanny! I know it's important to keep stories fresh and interesting. But, sometimes, the writers who come up with the scripts for these and other movies tend to create really toxic scenarios that warp the minds of both men and women, blinding them to the real-world dangers of falling in love with people who share similar characteristics as some of the lead men in these films. Honestly, such stories and the ideas they put out into the world only make it that much harder for real, genuinely good men to earn the trust of really great women (and vise-versa) who have now become disillusioned with the dating culture as a result of such fantasies not lining up with reality.

Who cares if your buddies think your being "mushy". Only wish she hadn't changed at the end into a bad girl. Danny needed to change not her.

I need to stick up for both Austin Ames and Aaron Samuels here. Austin must have been in a toxic relationship that he didn’t want any part of though he fooled himself into thinking that he did and he knew that if he tried to break up with her she wouldn’t listen. So his way of escape was to reach out to Sam through the cell phone unknowingly knowing that it was her and he had to find himself just as much as Sam had. As for Aaron Samuels he’s stuck with Regina George and everyone wants to put revenge on her so he could have thought the same especially since Regina had broke up with him and let him down before but realized as he was kissing Cady that revenge will get him nowhere and he had to be loyal to her. But then Cady admits that Regina actually cheated on him so that was quickly thrown out of the window. XD😂

I agree completely. He's not perfect, but he's definitely got the high ground compared to her. She did so many nasty things to so many other people in this movie, she was rather unlikeable for most of the movie. But also the comment about "maybe she should have signed the papers" doesn't even make sense. She thought she HAD signed them, that's why she sent them to her lawyer after he signed them.

I never liked grease or The Wedding Planner those guys were definitely toxic I will give a Cinderella story credit for acknowledging how toxic Austin is he let's his friends abuse Sam plays the victim even though she's the victim he owns up to it and listens to what Sam has to say at the end so I don't think Austin is the worst guy but I do like how the movie says he was in the wrong Sam doesn't just shrug and say okay I like you anyway she has to give him an earful before he can gain her forgiveness
@byMidnyt
@byMidnyt 2 жыл бұрын
The thing about teen movies is they are often more along the lines of fairy tales, in that there's a moral to the story. Austin has an actual story arc, he learns a lesson. Both he and Sam do. In many way, Grease is the same story. Both of the male leads are your typical teen guy, trying to be cool to their friends, and both learn that they have to stand up against society's (and in Austin's case, parental) expectations if they are going to be true to themselves and to get the girl. I often disagree with people about Grease, because I don't think Sandy is her authentic self at the beginning of the movie, where everyone else seems to think that she is. I think part of her change is for herself, and not just to get the guy. I think that if/when they break up, Sandy will retain at least some of those changes, if not most. This is something you don't often see in a lot of rom-coms. Too many rom-coms are based on "one of the leads is clearly with the wrong person, here's the right person, endgame is for them to get together, and all is fair in service of that goal."

I find this list a bit strange. With some guys, I agree (e.g. N°1), but a lot of guys on the list are good people, who just make some bad choices. I wouldn't call them "toxic" because of it. After all, nobody is perfect and we all have to learn from our mistakes. I think the most important is self reflection and that we realize what we did wrong and want to make up for it.
