I was born in 2000 and I heard about Charles & Diana's wedding were one of most beautiful weddings when I was kid. But I grew older, I learned the horrible truth before and after marriage that led their infamous divorce and then the tragic car accident that killed Diana. Somewhere in another universe that these two never met like Diana living a normal life as a civilian while Charles will marry a bride from another royal family.

Albert had to practically wait until after Rainier died to marry because Rainier never approved ANYBODY Albert liked! Charles married Diana out of duty! He wanted to marry Camilla out of love! David (Edward VIII/Duke of Windsor) was obsessed with Wallis (much like Victoria with Albert, Margaret with Peter and Charles with Camilla!), Mako could be practically a hero- sacrificing her title for love! I didn’t know about Claus’ background- to be honest, I would have felt Beatrix was taking a risk! But then, all German kids were forced into Nazi Youth during WWII (look at Pope Benedict XVI!)!

If I was a royal I wouldn't want to marry someone that I didn't love even if it meant that I would have to give it up, but even if they give up their titles they are still royal by blood. I'm glad that Princess Mako chose to marry the man that she loved unlike Charles and Diana. Diana might have been in love with Charles but he wasn't in love with her, he was in love with Camilla and Diana had no choice but to marry him! If they didn't get married then William and Harry wouldn't have been born, so it was supposed to happen that way because Diana ended up changing the ways for her boys to marry whoever they wanted to for the rest of the family. The church didn't like it when people got married to people that were divorced and I had never seen the church allow someone else from another country give out the sermon in a royal wedding, that was the first and more likely the last.

Speaking of Henry VIII, how about his other controversial marriages to Anne Of Cleves and Catherine Howard as well?! Henry and Anne were married for only 6 months on the grounds of not consumating their marriage (was also meant to be a political alliance) from January 1540 until July 1540. Then Henry married Catherine that same month shortly after but later discovered that Catherine had an affair with Thomas Culpeper and even Francis Derehem prior to her marriage and she was executed in February 1542 (by the way, she was a cousin of Anne Boleyn).

These all feel so utterly modern, aside from the sort of weird inclusion of Henry VIII. Considering that some pre-modern weddings involved, like, literal massacres, the vast majority of these are pretty tame. (Looking at you, Catherine Medici x Charles IX!!!)

Charles and Diane is awful! He was the cheater! Reminds of my marriage. My husband cheated on me. Everyone knew that but no one warned me. It totally floored me that he would do that. And we got divorced. The pain of a broken heart is so awful. I know that Diana wasn’t happy, but he shouldn’t have cheated on her. She had a broken heart that started before the divorce. I felt for her.

Technically Diana cheated first. Once they married, Charles kept Camilla at arms length only as a distant friend until Diana cheated first. Only seems the other way as Charles was not as discrete as Diana was. Was a doomed marriage from the start but Diana was not as innocent as we thought at the time. Not excusing Charles though, he was the senior and clearly didn't love her but went through with the marriage.

How is Charles wearing an engraved bracelet with the initials “ C & C” which represents Charles & Camilla, while on his honeymoon with Diana keeping his married mistress “at arms length”?!?! Charles made it clear to his friends that no other Prince of Wales lived without a mistress, and nor would he! Diana wasn’t a saint but she was barely an adult at 19, even for 1981 she was considered a very young bride. Diana provided an heir and a male spare (much to Charles disappointment as he wanted a daughter after William) and she brought vitality and popularity to the English monarchy, which was an archaic and dying institution before she married Charles. Diana truly deserved so much better, and I’m glad William seems to be a much better husband, father and person in general compared to his disappointing father.
