Carrie and Big are exactly the same. Men never buy a correct gift for their women. He took her to a party with mature, intelligent people and she behaved like a 30-something brat and went to the club instead. Big tells Carrie church was a thing for he and his mom. She invades that privacy to make it about her. And frankly her friends are enablers of that behavior.

@farhatamin43026 жыл бұрын
Mr.Big is the toxic man who makes you forget yourself and become more invested in him. Ofcourse, Carrie had major flaws of going back to an emotionally abusive relationship that wasn't right for her, but she never learned, and fed Big's ego when he needed it. Big took it gladly, and knew how to twist Carrie's vulnerable states and emotions. This is what I call falling in love with the wrong person entirely. It's toxic not only for you in emotion, but at times destructive and violent. Definitely watch out for these signals, just because a man is broken and cold does not mean YOU have to fix him or put up with his irrational behaviour. There's a difference between sympathizing and caring for someone who genuinely needs it and someone who takes it for granted. Never destroy yourself for a person EVER. As for the show, the lessons learnt were pretty accurate in reality. I've seen people who have been in these relationships and who are still in this loop.

I disagree. Big does a lot wrong but I don’t think he ever tries to manipulate her into anything. He is not deliberately trying to do these things that upset her, they are just different in many ways and he is not good at opening up. And like with leaving the wedding, he was more intimidated by the big thing the wedding had become. Carrie didn’t include him at all in the planning and ignored how uncomfortable he was. He changed his mind too and returned. It is was still bad but the point is that he didn’t try to manipulate and hurt her but they were on a different page and in the moment he felt he just could not sincerely go through it.
@farhatamin43026 жыл бұрын
While you do open up this perspective, I still feel that Big made more mistakes. Especially with Carrie she tries so hard, at times too hard which causes Big to back out sometimes. But, nobody else does that for him and it feels like Carrie is being taken granted for. About the wedding, I agree. Carrie let it get bigger than themselves, not taking in Big's side of the plate. In addition, it always seems that they have major communication gap and are barely on the same pages. Well, Big may not have tried to manipulate her but his actions came off as pure manipulation to me. Then again it's all about perspective, to each their own.
@nnnnnnnnnnn72926 жыл бұрын
Sara Samaletdin He IS manipulating Carrie all the time. His major attitude is "Do as it suits me or you are out". This is one the most horrible things to say to a person who is in love. Of course it was up to Carrie to figure out that he had no real feelings for her. And she never had. But the point is that he is not trying to meet her half way, he does not care about her needs. It is a huge manipulation scheme of serving him. No he does not force her to be with him in words. But he manipulates her with giving and taking away some affection which hooks another person in emotionally and is a real cold-blooded abuse.

I kind of wish she had ended up alone and happy with herself because part of her character was the "eternal single girl" thing and I really didn't love any of her boyfriends. However, I think in the end him and Carrie were always going to end up together because she was comfortable in that relationship. Anyways, the romantic in me wants to believe that the marriage worked out, and he managed to get over his bad boyfriend tendencies despite six seasons and two movies showing us otherwise.

I had a Mr Big in my life. I was younger. I wasn't strong enough. Too scared to lose him, too insecure at times and I dealt with certain behaviors. After years and years with him, once he realized other hot guys wanted me he changed and ultimately our last year or so together he just kept pressing marriage on me. Of course it's a long story. And at that point of course that was everything I always wanted with him but I was too hurt for so long over the years at the way I was treated and also mad at myself for allowing myself to be treated that way. We had a huge fight and 3 months later he proposed to someone else. Needless to say a slap in the face after 8 years together. Much therapy needed. Although this was over 10 years ago, it can still sting sometimes just with everything that all happened. But I've learned so much during that time in my life and of course after. As our mutual friends say...I DODGED A BULLET!!!

The only real parting gift from any bad relationship is the lessons you learn. (Especially if all the gifts he gave you smashed with a hammer and left at his doorstep.. But I digress..) You learn the behavior you will absolutely Not tolerate from anyone who claims to Love you.. ..and God willing, you learn to spot the warning signs early enough to lessen the hurt and not waste your time. But one thing I wish women would learn is that there is no such thing as "investing in a relationship". No Matter how long you've been together, if you are miserable..the only thing you're investing in... is your own misery.

AND ONLY when Big found himself OLD and ALONE did he finally decide to get real with Carrie- but his true nature reared its ugly head when he humiliated her in the most disgusting act of all- leaving her at the altar on her wedding day. She went out on a limb to trust him again and believe he had changed his commitment-phobia towards her. He had no trouble committing to his THREE OTHER BRIDES. Carrie couldn't see past the fantasy she had of Mr. Big, always failing to believe him when he showed who he truly was. I had a Mr. Big in college. He was emotionally stunted and withdrawn and would have emotional breakdowns to play on my caring empathetic nature, but the minute I needed any kind of affirmation, "wtf, why would you think I love you and want to be in a relationship with you, what made you think that" but then the next day he'd have another crisis and I'd be right back at his side. Even when I was breaking up with him because he had told two exes that he still loved them while in my house drinking my liquor, he still managed to get the last word and say "well I don't take breaks so I guess you're ending things, so bye" the conversation lasted literally 30 seconds and he immediately went and knocked up another girl. After once last meeting to exchange stuff two months later, I vowed to never speak to him again and I kept true to my word. BULLET DODGED, but that's something that takes a while to get over lol

I never hated - hated Big. yeah, he does piss you off at times, but he was always practically clear about everything he wanted, which may I say, he never really expected anything from Carrie. it was just about the timing, Carrie was so desperate to find "love" and "the guy" for her, that everything big did was insufficient and that led to their fights. And although i absolutely adore the other girls, its hard for me to believe that they never saw this.

If the series had ended with Carrie telling Big to go to hell just she left for Paris, it would have been so much better. People here are saying they deserved each other, but it makes for a toxic relationship, and I didn't feel sorry for Carrie when she was dumped at the altar. Aiden was a much better boyfriend.

itsjemmabond I always pictured my ending as Carrie walking away from Paris and being over with men
@Johnny-ut3ku6 жыл бұрын
itsjemmabond I actually read the writers intended it for her to end up alone and say that the girls were her soulmates, but apparently HBO didn’t like insisted on a happier ended. I honestly would have prefer her to end up alone, I thought it would have been truly revolutionary at the time. To have a woman who appears to have it all to decide that her worth isn’t tied to any man, ang that embracing being alone is also a solid option. I think it would’ve honestly made a lot more sense as well.

While Aidan treated Carrie better than Big did, he wasn't right for her. He and Carrie had different priorities, so a breakup was warranted. Big certainly did a lot of shady and thoughtless things, but some on this list, like expecting Big to be monogamous when he and Carrie never actually discussed monogamy, are unfair to Big and paint Carrie like she's almost always the victim. I love SATC, but I think this list could use some rethinking.
@Anu016 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with the part where you should discuss monogamy. I think it's obvious if you start a relationship, you don't see other women/men.
@LittleMissRockChalk6 жыл бұрын
Kirahvi karahvi I think you can expect that if you explicitly decide to start an exclusive relationship, but in that episode Carrie acknowledges that they’ve only gone out a few times. Two or three dates is not a relationship. I’m very Team Big on this issue, lol!

@MsMinoula6 жыл бұрын
@notthefather how are they great if you don't match?
@LittleMissRockChalk6 жыл бұрын
I think they do match. Both of them thrive on drama, and Carrie even discusses this in a few episodes throughout the series. They also both desire a glamorized, high-profile, big-city lifestyle, whereas Aidan is more low key. Big definitely exhibits annoying, careless behavior, but Carrie also does throughout the series, like when she ditches Charlotte at the opera and refuses to go on vacation with Big at the last minute because he can't say right that second that she's "the one." I like Carrie for a lot of things, but her behavior can be just as neurotic as Big's.

I had a quasi-relationship of a push-pull variety. If he was at all emotionally unavailable or in a relationship, he was interested in me and came in all hot and heavy. When he was sorta vulnerable in being free to date/be involved with me, he'd be afraid and push me away. I cried so much over him (college years). The inconsistency and what I now see as fear tore me up. I tried so hard to make a relationship (a real one) work but over time I saw that he made it impossible. It wasn't my fault. He didn't "get away" because I made mistakes. Regardless of what I did, right or wrong, it'd never work out owing to his fear. I lamented for a long time, too, that I "didn't know what to do" to "fix" it, but then I finally realized I couldn't change that part of him and it meant a relationship would never work, even if he ever gave me or it a chance.

For their affair, Big gets additional points knocked down because, yes he was married, and he started! In the beginning Carrie did try to shoo him away. But he kept on calling her, showing up at her house, and stalked her to the hotel where she was working, followed her into the elevator, then force kissed her. Yes she finally accepted and reciprocated, which was bad… I guess she should’ve kneed him in the groin.

I remember my mom telling me that Big leaving Carrie at the Altar was Miranda's fault because she scared him, and I said: "It's true that Miranda planted a seed of doubt, but if he loved Carrie enough or believed in himself enough he would have done it despite that, and actually change for the better for himself. But no, he got cold feet and then tried to excuse himself like it was nothing, Big is the worst." I don't think what Miranda did was ok, but the decision to leave Carrie at the altar was Big's, that only proved to me , YET ONCE AGAIN, that he can't handle a relationship, let alone another marriage. That day I found out my mom was more likely to be part of Team Big...

Big was a terrible person. While I love the actor I never understood his character's appeal on the show. I'd like to point out the Judith Leiber duck purse was probably thousands of dollars and Carrie had a JL cupcake purse in the first movie when she was about to get married. So I disagree with that one (and that episodes's storyline)... but it was probably just the writers not paying attention lol

And Charlotte hugged her and gave Big a look any good friend would have given him😡 Samantha feeding her when she was too weak and totally broken😭 These scenes are award-winning acting by all of them. Cinematic show of sisterhood and heartaches involved with simply being women💞

regardless of the situation, they ended up together at the end. All you guys who are commenting on their toxic relationship obviously have no idea as to how hard it is to find people you have a connection with. Aiden deserved someone who was just like him, as Carrie deserves big. Even though he was emotionally unavailable and had many bad and toxic traits they worked them out and it even turned out well. Both had personal issues which they solved together, that's what a relationship is all about. Instead of hating on the relationship and characters, understand their relevance in the show and how they actually make it much more exciting and entertaining to watch. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
