We all had our hopes and expectations set too high. We have a judge giving a summary judgment that it was all lies and we have Murdoch writing a cheque for $787.5 million to stop a full accounting of those lies. No one pays that much without a great deal of fear for the consequences of not paying. We’re only at the end of the first phase. There are other lawsuits coming and there are more than a few FOX corp shareholders who will be asking some very pointed question.

Well, from this little bit of parrying between Ari, a trained lawyer and attack dog: and the lead attorney from Dominion's white-shoe firm, we get an inkling of why Fox folded and Dominion prevailed. That fellow definitely knows how many beans make five. Ari generally gets the upper hand on all his guests. This dude basically taught Ari a master class, if he was listening. I love Ari, because he's willing, and capable, of punching above his weight.

@@richard1472 He said it's substantially less than a third, and less than their normal fee, so I'd guess probably about 10-15%, so about $78-118 million. Remember, they went into this asking for $1.6 billion, so their expected maximum payout would have been $160-240 million. Considering the size of the case, it makes sense they could lower their percentage and sitll be very happy, even if they don't actually "care so much about accountability".

My fury about how settling kept ALL Dominion's evidence from becoming a permanent court record was mitigated when I heard a Dominion representative add to their claim that "the world can see that Fox lost" (which doesn't ring true for me given the "weasel words" in Fox's post-settlement statement + how many of their viewers' confirmation keeps them willfully ignorant") because he added the valid points that: A) If even one case isn't settled, the evidence can still be fully documented, plus B) Many of the witnesses are the same for all related lawsuits & many of these folks are being threatened & variously traumatized. Thus trying to limit a full trial to one big effort (& maybe settling the others) may limit the collateral damage to innocent parties willing to testify honestly. Food for thought.

Most if not all of the discoveries, ie. evidence was made public, prior to trial. The only people that will never hear the truth are the die hard fox viewers, that are unfortunately incapable of rational thinking anyways. Dominion lawyers COULD have got 33% of the 780,500,000 since it was settled out of court. If there was a trial, it COULD have been 40%. New York does not charge taxes on compensatory damages. Neither does California. New York doesn't tax legal fees. I saw about ten lawyers today. I wouldn't mind having the deli down the block from that firm. But, after listening to this, sounds like a substantial drop from 33%. If it's half that, the lawyers would each get about 13 million, if there are ten lawyers assigned to this case. Still tax free. That's a lot of pastrami.
