My sister was not able to have kids of her own. She became a teacher, another group that is diminished by the Republican party. She was then called upon to raise my 7 yr old nephew, who tragically lost his dad, our brother. My nephew graduated this year with honors and will be attending a University. My sister could not love him more if she had given birth to him. Mr Vance’s statement is a reflection of who he is. Someone who can’t fathom loving a child who is not their own… and THAT is the person should not be involved in making decisions that could have an impact on ALL our children’s lives.

As she loved her first child, she went on to adopt 9 special needs children. 2 from MS, whose special needs were being deeply black while in MS. There are programs to help place special needs children, and states like MS use them to get blacks out of the state.

Vance was not talking about teachers or those who give of their time and energy to the children of this country. His argument is clearly clarified by those who "have a stake in the future of this country" - and defining that "stake" as the children of the country. However means you can. Those who don't, he views as simply taking from the country, and not giving, and thus such people he argue probably should not have an OVERSIZED influence on the direction of its future. It's a rational argument. Once you drop the emotions from it.

I'm 64 and childless, and I have been paying taxes my entire life, a large portion of which go to support the public school system. I am more than willing to do this so that I have the privilege of living in an educated society. But I do not have children benefiting from the taxes I have paid my entire life. So I should be penalized for that? Oh, and by the way, throughout my whole career I was doing the jobs of the women who were on their 12-week maternity leaves to welcome and recover from delivering their bundles of joy. My question is whether they get to keep the extra votes once the kid is an adult. They're still parents, after all. Plus, how does someone with a 17 year and 364 day old kid have more of a stake in the country than an 18 year old? Most 18 year olds are childless. Do parents under the voting age get to vote now that they're a parent, even though they're too young? Or do the grandparents get that extra vote until the parent is of age? Do abusive or neglectful parents lose their extra vote? They've proven that they don't actually care about their children or their futures. It's also not like the child loses their vote, since it wasn't actually theirs to begin with. I can’t contribute to my beloved country as equally as those with children? I have beautiful relationships with family and friends on either side of my age. I’m a speech-language pathologist and first, helped adults and their families navigate through the cognitive and communicative trauma of suffering a stroke or brain injury. For the past 10 years, I’ve been working with special needs children in our public schools, loving them, and doing everything I can to improve their functional, academic and social communication skills. My cousin was a first time mom at age 16. She married the dad, though he abandoned her when their child was born premature, and profoundly disabled. That child lived 3 and 1/2 years, due solely to devoted care by my cousin and her parents. Some stake in the future. Although, a medical resident who noticed the care she gave the child without a future, and admired her mature attitude, became her second husband, and they raised 4 healthy sons together.
