Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh -- indicated they would grant Trump's request to halt his sentencing. Justice Amy Coney Barrett, appointed by Trump to the court in 2020, cast the deciding vote along with the court’s liberals and Chief Justice John Roberts. 5-4 vote against Trump.

@CraftyGrandmaDem 7 сағат бұрын
I think all 6 of the maga judges should be impeached. Just because Barrett and Roberts did the right thing this time they have done the wrong thing more times. They still bow down to Trump. They gave him King like immunity and no president before him has had that. They gave him more then Trump's lawyers were asking for. They refused to disqualify Trump (Section 3 of the 14th Amendment) and he incited an insurrection. They took the immunity case even though they shouldn't have, then they dragged out the time before they heard it and they dragged out the time for making the decision. All 6 of the maga s. court judges have been helping Trump every step of the way.

Presidential immunity is a constitutional absurdity. One of the few things the Constitution specifically mandates for a president is that they "take care that the laws be faithfully executed" - they shouldn't be immune from jaywalking. The Constitution also says a president can be impeached for crimes and misdemeanors, there is no provision that suggests a president might need to break laws to do the job, or that they should be immune if they do. The founders were opposed to monarchs that were above the law. There was no intent to place anyone above it.... How is this even a discussion? Much as I dislike it, i can see valid reasons why there is a policy not to prosecute sitting presidents WHILE in office (not the same as immunity) but I also think it can go to absurd extremes - especially when impeachment isn't about right or wrong, or accountability; it's about whether the president's party has a majority in Congress. We've seen this repeatedly. Reagan should have been impeached for Iran/Contra. Clinton should have been thrown out for suborning perjury and trying to subvert a citizens right to a fair trial (and/or ChinaGate) - but he had the Senate. Bush should have been impeached for intentionally lying us into war and for torturing people - over 100 to death. Trump should have been thrown out twice - but he had the Senate. At the very least, IF a president (that should have no blanket immunity) cannot be prosecuted while in office -- then any statutes of limitation on crimes should be suspended during any period the courts are prevented from prosecuting. Also, btw, it is another constitutional and legal absurdity to claim a president can pardon themselves - no such thing is contemplated in the Constitution, and it is contrary to the most basic of legal concepts -- that an individual can't be their own judge and/or jury.
