MST RMX 2.0 RTR - Box Stock Build Series Week 6 - Scale Science

Join us as we take the plunge into the old days for us and show newcomers the easiest way to take their ready to run cars and get into doors at their local track!
We spent a total of $83 in week 6 adding a Yokomo Dp-302v4 gyro. The difference is significant between brands and although we didn't spend a great deal of time fine tuning the stock MST Gyro, the upgrade potential from both ease of setup and overall feel make this new gyro a no brainer! The lineup of Mods are now working in perfect harmony; from the Futaba 4pm radio, to the Reve-D Servo and rounded off with the new V4 Yokomo gyro, this RTR is more planted and smooth than it has been in any prior weeks.

Im glad it went this way. I don’t think the shocks are a limiting factor yet. I feel like the gyro is more bang for your buck. Plus i want to see the RTR’s hard parts stay stock for as long as possible. Just shows people that seat time is everything.

Just starting out in the drift scene and bought the MST FXX but after seeing the RMX perform right out of the box i have just ordered it with the GT86 Rocket Bunny body. Love the channel nd have learned a lot by watching your videos 🙏🏻. Cant wait until the next one. 🤙🏻🤙🏻👍🏻

I have what may be a noob question as I just ordered my first drift car amd have yet to drive it. I understand the reason for camber, however could you explain why so much front camber, even in the corners the contact patch looks minimal?

Another great add on guys, put a v4 on my son's rtr the other day. Still can't figure out how to get it into assist with green light. Any tips?

If you’re running it in analog (turning the dial) make sure the 3rd wire (single) is unplugged and it should just be twisting it to the right from 0 to get green, left from 0 to get red. If you’re adjusting from the radio, 3rd wire plugged in and just adjust from the radio to + range for green.

What I’d like to see is a video on a more obscure chassis like a Yeah Racing RWD converted TT-02 and how that compares to a dedicated chassis like the RMX 2.0. I know they’re limited in setup but it would be great to see how it does.

Tt02 is best as an awd rally car! Trust me, I sunk $300-$400 into trying and it never worked as well as my yd2’s it’s just not worth the time money and effort, I turned it into a rally car and that’s what it’s best at.

How much toe out are you running? Im currently at -8 camber and pretty aggressive toe out and it seems to respond well.

We had toe around -1.5 degrees per side at its most aggressive setting and as little as -1 on our track surface. All depends on the sacrifice of forward speed

Replacing rtr electronics with nice stuff leads me to buying some sort of Tamiya to use the rtr stuff in.... So which Tamiya are you building? Dancing/Dual riders?

Hi. Great vid. Can someone help me make up my mind. I haven't drifted in a while and was looking to get a new chassis. I'm torn between the RHINO-MAX2 and the MST RMX 2.5 RS. Is the rhino worth the money or would the rmx be a safer purchase?

Rmx would be safer unless you frequent a track with a good herd (following) of rhinos. Otherwise tuning could be frustrating and parts are limited .

So.. The MST RTR models come with different gyros, the LSD-X or MGX. Can't really figure out which one to get. The MGX gyro seem to be newer model and cost a tiny bit more, so I'm guessing that one? Got any advice?

If you’re buying a gyro, buy the Yokomo V4. Easy to setup and is alllllllll the butter. Otherwise I believe our model came stock with lsd-x

No it does not. You’ll get the best bang out of a 2s lipo, try to get a shorty pack and LCG (low center of gravity) if you can. Gens Ace makes great chargers and batteries. We sell them too, you can hit us up on fb or Instagram direct to get one shipped to your door.

So honest opinion on the Stock RTR Gyro Vs this Yokomo gyro.. If it’s better is it $89 better? Also what episode did you do the Servo Upgrade? I been binge watching them and must of missed it.

Technically the mST gyro is more expensive but the feel of the Yokomo was significant. I was actually a major skeptic of that mod until we did it and it absolutely made a difference.

@@ScaleScience Thanks for the reply. That’s good to know. It seemed like in the video it took some getting used to at first. I would have loved to see how the car performed with the Big Bore Upgrade and stock gyro though. Good content though. I enjoyed it.

@@gravityracergt actually it did have just bigbores for a week or a couple weeks before we did the gyro. While still driveable the settings just seemed to work easier and the v4 is crazy crazy easy to use. Matched with the reve-D servo it’s one of the smoothest combos you’ll every drive or buy regardless of price. We are FIRM believers!

@@gravityracergt they only make one kind. Only difference is the expensive rs-st-ap or ar has anodized pieces on the case. Internal workings of the servo are identical.

Are there any “free” mods left? I seen people talk about moding the stock shocks but haven’t found a nice detailed video for it yet. Looks awesome can’t wait to be able to upgrade gyro / servo! (Cmon tax return 😂)

It would be hard to say as we Are seeing differences between the RTR’s and kits level of quality or what they are doing. Likely not much free left to do besides body fun!
