I first learned of this movie from the Wikipedia article "List Of Films Considered The Worst Ever". Along with "The Beast Of Yucca Flats", "Eegah", "Monster-A Go-Go", and "Manos: The Hands Of Fate", "The Creeping Terror" is just one of those films from the 60's that was perfect to be riffed on by the good people of MST3K. To alexisdawn89: They did record dialogue, but through the incompetence of the director, Vic Savage (who later took investments from the film and disappeared), it was accidentally erased (I think he or someone from the crew dropped it into a lake). Others claim that Savage either recorded the sound, but it was so bad it did not transfer, or they did not record it and planned to overdub in post-production. Evidently, an announcer at a local radio station who had nothing to do with the movie dubbed in the final dialogue. Still, according to the Best Brains, it was one of the worst movies they ever watched (along with "Skydivers," "Future Alien" and especially "Eegah! - which they put off for four years before actually using it on their show). Interestingly enough, many of the scenes were filmed on the old Spahn Ranch, where, within a few years, Charles Manson and his minions would camp out.

Years ago, Michael and Harry Medved wrote a couple of books about terrible movies, and in one of them (I think it was 'The Golden Turkey Awards'), in the introduction, they wrote that one of the films described in the book was a fabrication. They then 'challenged' us to discover which one was completely made up. For years I thought it HAD TO BE 'The Creeping Terror'. A film that basically had a carpet as the horrifying monster? One that had to be almost entirely narrated because the soundtrack was lost? I couldn't believe that such a film existed, and years later when I found it that it really did . . . wow. Just wow. I had nightmares from “The Blob” for years. I saw it when I was four or five, so I didn’t realize how stupid it was.

@@gisellem927 You did? It was unnverving to me, and my mother likes 50's low-budget horror movies, espically the ones with the giant monsters. You guys also admit that "Volcano" and Armageddon" are also stupid, but with the special effects looking so realistic, I found them to be extremely nightmarish instead of "bad and stupid".

"Plan 9 from Outer Space" has been dethroned as the worst Sci-fi movie in history by "The Creeping Terror". The king is dead someone kill the king. This one actually made "deep hurting" a reality. Not even MST could save it.

Rhodes1966 not to mention the egregious audio problems, and I'm not even talking about the narrator. The sheer abuse of the "wind" sounds, the near constant "monster" screeching, and the same sound clip of the same lady making the same scream, over and over and over. Man, I'm beginning to think the entire goal of the production was to disgruntle viewers so deeply through repetition it would incite a nation-wide riot to end the entire motion picture industry as a whole. Our boys on the SOL did their best but I wish I coulda been there in the writers room hearing them rip this one apart without the filter of character or correctness, now THAT would be a hoot!

The only time it's appropriate to randomly start making out in front of someone like they do at 31:26 is when you're going to invite the third wheel to join in, especially given that all three characters in the scene look like they're dressed for some sort of role play scenario. Still, I did find the narrator's comprehensive lecture on interpersonal relationships thorough and informative.
