Honestly, I find Ed Wood's "passion-projects" far better than his garbage horror flicks. I can sorta feel the effort and drive behind them, like he tried his hardest to tell a story, to make a point, explain something to us that he is concerned with and cares about, even if he doesn't do it well.

If you watch any variety show from the 50s, they're just as obvious about the products they're endorsing as this short is. Entire sketches were written specifically for products. If you didn't want a half hour long commercial, you had to be watching a sitcom or a movie. Jam Handy was Detroit's mini-Hollywood. A spin off of General Motors marketing (1930's) it expanded into a lot of products and even did some mental/social health movies, often using actors from elsewhere.

They develop tropes for these shows and certain things always happen because they're SUPPOSED to happen by the show's internal logic. Tom's always supposed to get hung up by his vanity and ego!

I think it refers to being "red in the face" as one gets when angered. Since they were talking about Judy being teased, it is reasonable that giving her "the reds" refers to her getting angry and being red in the face. And with that you have my best guess, FWIW.

It was to plug electric kitchen appliances but the script was so entertaining I don't think very many people got it. Almost everything Jam Handy is an infomercial - just very movie-ized.
