FUn FACT: Rondo Hatton was actually a journalist who was reporting on the production of a movie, 'Hell Harbour,' when the director decided he liked his big face and dragged him, rather reluctantly into a small part. Later, he kept getting offers to play thugs and lurky characters, which he turned down, but after a while, his second wife (who was pretty damn hot) told him, "sure they'll be exploiting your looks, but they're doing that to Veronica Lake too," so he just thought, "fuck it," moved to Hollywood and became an actor. On a bit of a sad note, he was voted most handsome boy in college; his acromegaly didn't develop until adulthood. A studio publicity department claimed it was a result of mustard gas exposure during WWI, but this,of course, was bullshit.

I heard that with this film the main actor actually had a condition that caused him to look like this. He ended up dying as a result of this condition, and the film company decided to not produce the film. It was later bought by another company who produced it.

I read somewhere that they wished they had never used this movie. The actor playing "The Creeper", Rondo Hatton, was literally dying while making this film. That's why his movements were so stiff and awkward. His disfigurement was real. He suffered from acromegaly. Rondo Hatton died just a few weeks after filming was complete.
