This is one of the several videos in youtube shared to know how difficult it is to reach Mount Whitney. Jayaraj and his friends have done it and it is a great achievement. Congrats to them...

50 lbs !!!!! OMG! Wonderful video! I did the JM Route w/outfitter some yrs ago; and during a different year, tried to do the regular trail, but got slammed at Trail Camp with monster blizzard and we all had to head back to the portal. Hoping to do summit hike w/grandson this summer. I will show him this video.

Hi, I had watched your video several times. I, solo day summited Mt. Whitney on 9.21.18. It helped me pace myself. Tough day. The log crossing was at 4am in the dark with headlight, the thing was frosty!!! Yikes. Thanks

again, one of the best Whitney prep videos, with fantastic shots all throughout thanks for helping me get to the top!- Watching this yet again// i will poke a little fun and say on my way up i kept recalling you talk about the steps- well, since my training was mostly hiking up and down 1000 feet of stairs in Berkeley, by the time i figured out where the "tough steps" were on Whitney i was almost past them/ ours are harder (no doubt the last few got to me though hahah) /// and HA i thought he same thing about the cables, forgot you told us they were only halfway.. got past them and looked up and said /what?/ oh well.. kept going...

Great video and commentary. Fyi: 45 lbs was the weight of my pack for an 11-day hike across the High Sierra. You certainly don't have to go ultra[stupid]-light, but at 50 lbs for an overnighter, a shakedown wouldn't hurt. You'll have a lot more energy at the top and you'll stay safer going down. There are 97 switchbacks btw. You should hike Mt Langley a couple miles to the south if you haven't already!

Feeling Fit Yes I left my tent up at Trail Camp with all my stuff in it. After coming back from the top I took my tent down, repacked and headed down

One important factor is the elevation gain. Having done this hike to the top twice you really can get pretty sick from that alone. I doubt my pack weighed more than 35 lbs for a two day round trip. Did it at age 48 @ 50.

And it's odd who it might grab. Sometimes the most fit will get hit the hardest. Happened that way to a group I hiked up Shasta with.

I live in in Big Bear CA and im at about 7025 feet were my house is. I can handle the Whitney climb in a day but I don't know how people that live at sea level do it without getting elevation sickness.

Hi! Can you leave your tent at the base of the mountain so that you can climb Mt Whitney lightweight? If so, Isn't it dangerous to leave your gear unattended?

Did anyone experienced altitude sickness and if so how did u prep for it? I've done half dome 4 times with no altitude sickness but am unsure if I'll experience it when I go this July; any suggestions?
@MarathonTrainingTV
@MarathonTrainingTV 9 жыл бұрын
momckids We camped the night before we started our hike at the Whitney Portal which is in the 8,000 ft range. Then we camped at Trail Camp at 12,000 ft the night before we went for the summit. I had a slight headache but one of our hikers was stopped at Trail Camp with altitude sickness. We also trained on San Gorgoino. There are some drugs you can take. Talk to your doctor and good luck.
