I've got a day job that I work about 30-35 hours a week at, but lately I've been considering taking the plunge, quitting my job, setting up a Patreon and spending the time I would normally go to work just posting gameplay videos. Still not sure I'm ready to do that, both from a personal standpoint and because I'm not sure the channel is quite big enough yet. Nothing's set in stone, of course, but it's just something I've been mulling over lately.

Hey, im going to write this comment here again, hoping to hear your thoughts on that "I absolutely love your deck techs, especially your budget decks. I nearly built them all and they are all fun to play. Maybe i have another idea for videos that i would really apreciate. When a new block releases, can you maybe do 2 or 3 deck upgrade guides for 2 or 3 standard decks from the last block to upgrade to a modern deck? A perfect example would be the G/B Counter deck. Pointing out what are the flaws of this deck when you would use it in modern immediately doing a list of cards whom have to be removed for sure and a list of cards which definitely must stay in the new deck also recommendations of cards to add I would like to hear what you think about that."
@einherjar49028 жыл бұрын
In addition: Im a relatively new player (4 month now) and for sure standard is my format now (because i have no older cards + money) So i built this G/B Counter deck (not that cheap but affordable) and i love it. Problem: 1. When Ammonkhet releases this deck is invalid in standard. 2. In my place they mostly play EDH or modern, but i have no decks there. If i could just upgrade an outdated standard deck that would be to awesome
@Thunder1090508 жыл бұрын

Idea? *"Strictly Budget Magic, the Gauntlet"* So i had this idea recently that might be a cool feature on your channel, a 'standard' budget decktech series in 'gauntlet' style. So basically, say every month, you feature a roughly $10-$15 budget deck that would fit in 'the Gauntlet'. This gauntlet would be a series of decks with similar power level, so that they can be played against each other!! In the running gauntlet only standard cards would be featured, but because the decks are aimed to have a similar power level, older no-longer standard decks could remain in the gauntlet for players at home. Why do i think this is a cool and nice feature. Well mainly because it could be an easy and budget way to keep a bunch of decks at home that can be played against each other for casual fun. Like, it's hard to have decks at the ready for some fair and fun games when visitors/friends come by and you just want to have something to do. With a running gauntlet you can simply offer to play some magic, let your visitors pick a deck and you yourself pick one, and have some fun fair games. Where the problem generally lies to make these decks oneself is mainly the fair part. Due to having a random assortment of pulls from packs, as well as certain preferred colours, quite possibly a standard meta at the time for which cards are purchased. Etc... the power level of decks available just ranges so much that fair casual games are hard to be had. And while there are 'duel decks' available to purchase, after a while the match-ups get boring. Having a monthly deck added to the gauntlet expands the options and thus keeps things fresh. Hope you might consider this, and hope other viewers see the value in a series like this. While i know this only caters to the casual budget players, a once a month episode doesn't feel like much to ask for something that basically becomes a true 'game collection' over a period of time, which can just be pulled from a closet and enjoyed.

I built a version of this deck that I'm loving right now. Something I've found is yehenni's expertise is great since you get the free cast trigger throwing an anticipate or a shock out there and getting more energy for tower. The biggest problem I've had with this is a kid playing a ramp deck and getting Ulamog and kozelek put on me when I don't have a counter handy. What the deck is missing is exile spells. A not so great one that I've found works really well is a 6 drop double black instant from bfz that exiles a land and a creature. It works wonders against more than just that bigger stuff since you hit lands also. And you can flash it back with gearhulk. Another 1 of I like is geistblast. It's a crappy version of shock but the exile effect from the graveyard for 3 mana to copy a glimmer of genius or the exile card late game is fantastic. Lastly I have a 1 of Lilliana the last hope in there. It was a Chandra but exiling my own cards wasn't a lot of fun. At first Lilliana didn't seem to fit well either but late game being able to bring a dead gearhulk back from the graveyard is fantastic. And she's another win con.

This is pretty sweet. I won't lie though I'm hoping amon khet has some new control finishers besides Gearhulk and sphinx of the final word. Playing control has gotten kinda predictable, it's like they r gonna anticipate then counter/kill then glimmer then Gearhulk almost assuredly so if u force them off that tempo by making them have to kill or counter something on turns four and five instead of glimmering their hand usually just falls apart. Or say they do just play the glimmer and don't kill or counter well then now u have a big threat on the board two or three turns before they get theirs. Also if u hold up a disintegration or murder for turn six when they tap out for the hulk and bust it they usually just lose that turn. All that being said I do like versions with tower as that extra oomph and this one looks particularly sweet. Keep up the good work Dev.
@hawkeye75228 жыл бұрын
Have you considered cutting 2 Anticipate for Chandra, ToD? I feel like if I built this deck, Chandra would deserve a spot main board because her ultimate wins the game. Key word on Blue Gearhulk being "cast" target instant from your graveyard.

The 25 lands is definitely a surprise, since I've been running 26 and the land selection still felt clunky yet necessary to make sure you just hit them all. Might just try it since I've been bricking a lot with lands (missing, screw, flooded). How do you feel about Yahenni's Expertise instead of Radiant Flames? It's come up one time where devoting a T4 sorcery play to both sweep them and put down Dynavolt ended up stabilizing my game to victory against an aggro deck, but I'd imagine that it'd tilt the land base more to black. Also, borrowing a hint from the Temur version and replacing Weaver of Lighning with Shielded Aether Thief sounds spicy. Thanks for teching this deck, Dev!

Hi Dev, awesome video as always. As a new player, the idea of sideboarding is a little confusing. Not adding cards after game 1, that is all good, but your starting deck makes sense, so I don't know how to decide what to take out of it when sideboarding. Any clues? @juliettaylorswift8 жыл бұрын
My current decklist has 9 counterspells main and 5 more side. Plus the 4 gearhulks, so 13ish main. Most the time I stop their attempted killings. I love it being a cheap drop, but it would be nice if it were a 2U instead so fatal push would need more work to kill it.
@coronerdeath50738 жыл бұрын
I really like Nimblis of Frost, probably more than Thing in The ice. the ability to tap creatures down for a whole turn is amazing, and if you cast 2 non-creature spells on one turn it can swallow almost anything since it'll be a 5/5 flyer. Nimblis of frost would be the best sideboard option against green/black counters.
@meatrace8 жыл бұрын
Have you thought of throwing a Baral or 3 into this deck?
@SBMTG8 жыл бұрын
If I was going to add a sorcery-speed card, it would probably be a planeswalker. A lot of people have suggested Chsndra in the comments, and I like the idea of a main deck one-of Chandra. Painful truths is another sorcery you'll often see in this list. But Baral's first ability isn't amazing because we're going long anyway (i.e. You're not necessarily trying to cram a bunch of spells into the first five turns), and he gives our opponent an outlet for thier Fatal Pushes, and I'd rather keep that card dead.

I like Temur Tower too. Attune with Aether is so hot that it makes me just want try going four colors. I also really like the idea of Tireless Tracker in this as a solid threat that makes those turns where you draw a land late actually matter. It's odd that he's not usually in the main in those lists. It just kind of looks like if you like to play the best removal, go with Grixis. If you want a smoother curve and manabase with a couple of extra threats, Temur is the way to go.
@zemib8 жыл бұрын
Well, maybe four colors could be good just because of Fatal Push and Unlicensed Disintegration. But I dont know. Feels like the addition of black is slowing the deck and making it possible to have mana troubles in the early game. Having to play 3 evolving wilds is weird because this deck type (meaning tower decks) wants to accumulate a lot of energy fast. And like you told, Attune with Aether is just the perfect card to fix all these problems and is good also if you draw it late. Tireless Tracker in these decks must be sideboard imo because you have already the tower to open yourself for 3 mana. And you also dont want to spend mana on cracking clues because you have already many draws. Actually Im using now a grixis full spells without towers now because I realized that the towers worked poorly in black. But others may disagree. Keep up witht these awesome brews!
