I feel like their personalities and banter is more subdued in this video. Maybe it's b/c it's a cedh game and everyone is so focused on chasing the W lol! Good match-up and I appreciate the channel trying new things.

SPOILERS Greg should've imo pivoted his regular Doomsday setup into a Yuriko kill after the table was relatively low; it could've surprised others if he was pretty sure of being able to get his two Yuriko triggers for the turn. In general I think there's enough cEDH content out there and not enough of the type of thing you guys usually do and frankly I'm here for your regular EDH games since you have good group dynamics and you try to make the optimal/fun plays even if it's casual. Good luck with the channel!

@@QMTG ah well that explains it :P can't know what he had in his hand though but wouldn't temporal trespass and commandeer (looking at the decklist, I guess Blinkmoth Infusion was still in hand) done 18 damage and killed off Alfred and put Matt to 1, of course that's a bit of a kingmakey situation if Esmond could've just finished Matt off but been dead on the board on Greg's next turn and I guess politics and cEDH don't mix too well! Thank you for taking the time to answer already :)

I posted on my Facebook to enter the giveaway and mentioned my love for Games Haven but I would like to explain more in my comment for the giveaway. Games Haven is one of my favorite KZbin channels for MTG. I enjoy every episode they have release3d so much that I have probably re-watched every episode at least three times. Whenever I have a bad day, and I defiantly have bad days, watching Esmond and the gang makes everything better. They help me love Commander even more than I already do and I adore EDH so very much. Esmond or anyone associated with Games Haven, thank you for making my bad days better. #QuintessesntialCommander

I'm sad that Koll didn't get a chance to do his thing but still it was a great game. You guys did really well for your first time posting this kind of game and it definitely holds up to other cEDH content out there. One small slip was you want to hold priority in response to the oracle etb trigger, not before it resolves as if they let pact resolve and you get your oracle countered (unlikely here) it will be very sad times. I definitely enjoyed it and would watch more like this but I might be in the minority going by comments here 😅

I'm confused why Greg didn't just get two high CMC cards from his doomsday on top of his deck and then just win.? It was nice to see a change of pace for a video but current Cedh is not personally my cup of tea. I enjoy building powerful cedh decks that are very resilient but without all of the traditional blue things most of the decks Cedh decks tend to do, for instance I despise two card combo wins and infinite loop wins. I really enjoy attrition long heavy fought out games with alot of back and forth interacting. I also felt the tension you guys were having just watching and that is a clear indicator to me that the current cedh landscape is obviously not fun when you notice no one having fun chatty banter with one another. Never the less another solid video thanks for the fun and hopefully the next cedh video you do the tension wont be so thick you could cut a knife through it. :)
@QMTG
@QMTG 3 жыл бұрын
Hahahah yes it was tense indeed. Greg didn't actually have 2 cards that could kill off the table, so he went for an alternative line which would've won him the game if he could have cast the spells
@gregoiredelannoy7970
@gregoiredelannoy7970 3 жыл бұрын
The only high CMC card left were temporal trespass 11 CMC and Sea Gate Restoration/Commandeer 7CMC. So the maximum i could have get was 18 damage which would have killed Alfred and Mat but not Esmond, allowing Esmond to have a chance to untap. The rest of the pile was cavern of soul/Thassa Oracle /Lotus petal which would have allowed me to win if there was not the silence.

Cedh is quite "boring" to watch as we know the expected "result" when a deck has blue black in it (pact oracle) or when a deck has red black in it (animate dead world dragon). So if there are 2 UB base decks, it's just to see who can pull off pact oracle 1st.
@davidpang8135
@davidpang8135 3 жыл бұрын
Cedh is not as boring as you mentioned. It’s also not about who can pull off the oracle pact combo too. Cedh is a battle of the 98 cards. The winner gets to pull off the finisher.
@Snorkden
@Snorkden 3 жыл бұрын
The exciting things to watch are the amount of interaction and the timing of the plays. If you want to boil all commander games down to the very end win then most games are incredibly boring, "oh I got hit the face by a creature now I have 0 life" is not exactly thrilling but there was a lot that got you to that point. I think there is a place for all types of EDH and different ways to enjoy it, if it's not your thing then fine but even if you oracle consult for a win there was a whole journey to get you there. There was a lot of nice action in this game, it's just packed into fewer turns.

Totally disagree that was some sweet timing on silence, if someone is making a doomsday pile you better believe that they have the win
@ALymental
@ALymental 3 жыл бұрын
@@Snorkden A win that would require a mana source such as that mox. A silence then wouldn't have been too late. Sorc speed thoracle/labman would have to wait for Gregoire's next turn. I'm honestly looking to improve so please let me know if I'm missing something here.
@Snorkden
@Snorkden 3 жыл бұрын
@@ALymental you're right responding to the mox cast or the draw spell would have also been fine however either way the silence would be needed here to stop the win (from your comment it looked like you were suggesting that it should have been saved for Matthew, I think they were right to try and stop Greg as they had a turn each to hope for some way to pull it back). If Greg had a doomsday piece in hand (I'm not sure how many cards he had in hand at that point of if the table could work out what they were from earlier Yuriko draws) then it wouldn't be unthinkable to put some kind of free protection in the two Yuriko draws, we'd seen force of will but I don't think we'd seen pact of negation or fierce guardianship so mana wasn't necessarily a limiting factor there. So for example if he had gush in hand and they let the Yuriko triggers resolve his two Yuriko draws could be an island and pact of negation, he'd be able to counter the silence and play the island, float mana and play gush for oracle and a free mana source. With the blue devotion on board he doesn't need to draw his whole deck, just get close enough. It's best to assume they have the win and act before they get the extra draws. That example wasn't really the standard pile and relies on having a piece in hand but it wasn't impossible. It's definitely good to question plays and it helps to be familiar with the deck to know when to interact. I've not seen a doomsday win in a while so that would have been cool. The amount of protection Greg was packing that hadn't been revealed by Yuriko was amazing and he was really unlucky not to get the win there. Some great plays all round.
