I'm a huge fan of the Mortivore. Run a bunch of creature kill, a bunch of small death touch guys, throw in the night howler, a couple kills that get around protection and hex proof. Before you know it you've got a 10/10 regenerating Mortivore.

I'm kind of surprised Soulless One isn't on the list considering how easy it is to get zombie tokens into play and in the graveyard. Slap on a cheap aura or use an ability that grants deathtouch, lifelink or evasion and you have a potential game winner

I’m kind of sad Molimo, Maro Sorcerer didn’t make the list. He was the first legendary I ever played with, and I always thought his art was really awesome. Same for Dauntless Dourbark, and Flawless One. I have fond memories of putting two blanchwood armors on Molimo, and killing my opponent in one hit.

Good ol' Voice of Resurgence, proof magic cares more about your money than a balanced format. For those unaware for the story on Voice, the original stat line and effect were planned for the RTR block Emmara, but the effect deemed too powerful and game warping for a rare, so the card was bumped up to mythic. While bumping it to mythic, they also opted to remove the legendary tag and just let the player base sort itself out. To this day, Voice still stands as one of the most expensive cards that had standard legality during that point, and off the top of my head, only Jace the Mind Scuptor, Jace Vryn's Prodogy, Oko, and The Scarab God have a ranking higher than it in this category.

Surprised that Terravore didn’t make the cut. I suppose back in the days tournaments were fairly less than nowadays. I suggest to somehow rescale your point system on the number of tournaments at that time. I’ve noticed recent cards tend to gravitate towards higher positions in your top 10s.

Still somewhat unfamiliar with all the rulings For Detritivore, if the controller is the only player with a non basic land, does the controller have to destroy their own lands or is it not mandatory? I know in Yugioh, if it were worded this way, destroying your own permanents is mandatory unless a target isn’t unavailable

I know I am wrong, (because stats don’t lie, nor does the price) but I feel like Lhurgoyf is better than Tarmogoyf. I know Lhurgoyf cost 4 mana as opposed to 2, but it can be way stronger way faster, because most decks are nearly guaranteed to run quite a few creatures and they are usually easier to kill than things like artifacts and enchantments. Tarmogoyf also caps out at 7/8 while Lhurgoyf could be twice that with just a few mill cards.

Those abilities are functionally distinct. */* cards have their stats determines in all zones 0/0 creatures that get +1/+1 for another variable are considered 0/0 creature cards in all zones except the battlefield. And no, they aren't elligble

Everytime he says "Detritivore" as "Detr-eye-tivore," I die a little inside💔 Anyway, fantastic Top 10 as always.*/* creatures make me feel really weird, especially when they've been printed recently (creatures with .*/N or N/* statlines too) because it seems arbitrary whether they're printed as 0/0, 0/N, or N/0 creatures who get stat boosts (i.e. "~ gets +1/+1 for each color among permanents you control) or whether they're printed with a *-based statline. They have mechanical differences (* statlines function in all zones), but it doesn't make sense to be printing both since they're nearly identical in function. I'm pretty sure IKO even had *both* present in the set.

His CMC is just as much as the geist honored monk, and if you're playing mill its not hard to get a few creatures in the graveyard for him to actually stick, also if you're playing a bunch of cheap spells he can do a bunch of work. By all means I don't think he should be top 5 in the list but he should at least be above the monk of not #7

I never understood why ppl played pack rats, it's as bad as relentless rats, or worse.

Relentless Rats has to draw every rat they play, so if they draw too many lands or not enough lands to play enough rats, they can't swarm the field. Also Relentless Rats can only start with 3 mana, usually on turn 3. Pack Rat can curve 2 mana cast into 3 mana activation, and only 1 rat drawn can be many rats on the battlefield. Also it is great way to prevent both flooding and mana starving (if you get to 3 mana first): If you flood, every land can become a Pack Rat, and if you are stuck on 3 lands, every expensive uncastable card in your hand can be another rat.
