I love Drakes since I play this game. Got 4 Winddrakes in my very first monoblue Deck.

Iridescent Drake was my favorite. Run a bunch of “draw a card, discard a card” mechanics and toss gnarly uncastable enchant creature cards into the graveyard. Toss down a I.drake and have some crazy 10/10 trampling flying beatstick with counter backup in blue/green ... or even a 12/12 flyer with annihilator 2. Fun times.

As far as Runechanter's Pike/Drakes power abilities go, my favorite version of it is still Spellheart Chimera 💙❤️ I played it in UR & Jeskai tempo lists for a few months during Theros-Khans standard where it was often good enough just being a huge beater that would usually get through for big damage in the air.

It's too soon for the new walkers to have put up a significant amount of points. The only data right now is, I'm pretty sure, the draft at GP London. So none of them would have any points. It would be better to revisit the topic in 6 months or so.

I was not wrong to run azimaet drakes in my mono blue control deck before year 2000 afterall. It was good because it can defend fairly well against smaller creatures (two can chump block against 5/4 with only one drake dying). If you stall the game enough a drake can be a win condition so everything else in the deck may be just counters/removal/bounce/card drawing.

Gilded, Drake is also a blue staple in a lot of commander decks that run blue as well

I expected to see Silver Drake at number 10. People talked about it quite a bit when Planeshift came out, expecting great things in the Battlemages deck...I guess no one must have actually used it.

If we're going by his criteria, idk offhand. However, just from my experience playing - it'd have to include Hypnotic Specter, Tireless Tracker, Kitchen Finks, Troll Ascetic, V Clique, Lin Sivvi, Knight of the Reliquary, Eternal Witness, Boros Reckoner and... who knows for the 10th spot.

It isn't a perfect comparison. The stormtamer is cheaper with the same stats, but the activated abilities are pretty different. The stormtamer hardcounters, but only things that target creatures. The ability also costs on blue mana. The hatching can counter anything, but it isn't a hard counter. It also costs no mana.
