Great video on MTH 44 ton switcher.

I ordered the Pennsylvania today from Charles Ro. I have been wanting it and watching this made me pull the trigger on it. With the future of MTH unknown I figured that I may not get another shot at a new one. Love the clunk of the old diesels!

Good Move Randy. You'll love this engine. I was quite a bit happier than I had expected to be once I received it.

I love these 44 ton switchers and yours is beautiful. I am lucky enough to own a Southern Pacific 44 "tonner"

This should be a basic engine in every layout/collection. The body, including the end steps, is all one piece. I have the custom run Amtrak 1100 and would really like to pick up a Pennsylvania or a Lackawanna the next time around. Love the layout and the way you observe prototypical scale speeds ... and not running its train at 50mph.

Also Marc - Would this engine work well with a Lionel transformer ? Thanks again ! Luzine

In conventional mode it would work just fine

I have three of these. One is a Pennsy, one is a Santa Fe and the other is the NYO&W. All three of them do not like the Atlas 0-72-0-54 turnouts on my layout. Only complaint about them.

Hi Marc - I recently ordered a MTH 44 Ton switcher for a single track wall layout to encircle my study. The appx total track distance will be 65 to 70 feet. Would the MTH Z-1000 transformer be able to handle this engine and operate the Proto Sound system (startup & shutdown) ? What would you recommend ? Thanks much, Luzine
