Glad to have found this channel. Great stuff. I started a methylated B complex today after finding out I had the MTHFR rs1801133 "AA" genotype associated with up to 70% reduced enzyme activity. Also found out I have a poor AGT genotype of GG. This has to do with angiotensinogen, which can influence aldosterone from the adrenals to regulate how kidneys absorb water/salt or not, thus regulating blood pressure. My pressure has been OK, but I do urinate quite often, and after being "asleep for 5 hours my chances of waking up are very high and I will have a full bladder to release if I don't try to drowsily ignore waking up to roll over and try to sleep more. This is true even if I don't rink much in the evening. Plus I notices that I do have some of he symptoms of high potassium and low sodium like heart palpitations, shortness o breath, confusion, restlessness, muscle weakness, spasms(as i fall asleep). Unsure where to look next to try to get to the bottom of this.

The homocysteine nutrients are so awesome! My son has had bad OCD issues, eyes that roll, brain fog, ADHD etc…. His folate is low on his blood test but every time we tried folate by itself it made him aggressive and he would hit himself. I just bought the homocysteine nutrients and the very first day of taking it his OCD and brain fog improved. Thank you So much Dr. Lynch! The doctor he was seeing said no folate because he is an undermethalater and it would make him worse so my son has struggled for 5 years with things getting worse. I’m just curious if you feel the TMG is what is helping or the riboflavin? Should he stay on this the rest of his life or once he gets better just take methl b12/folate?

I have a question for you Dr. Lynch. My daughter has a severe MTHFR gene mutation. She also has a mental illness for which she has to take medications. Her treatment really improved after adding methylfolate. However, recently she became intolerant to high doses of methylfolate and it was reduced significantly causing her treatment to not work as well and some of the doses of medication had to go up. Do you advise using Folinic Acid instead or along with methylfolate to improve the efficancy of her meds. Is folinic acid easier to tolerate than methylfolate?

Hi there - I may have said that - but I now say that MTHFR C677 CC is typical and that MTHFR C677 CT or TT are the variants. One is not good and one is not bad. They are different. That's how I look at them now. To be clear for you, yes - the CC is 'good' but it's not actually 'good' - it's just what is typical - no variation and in genetic speak - it's wild type.

Thank you Dr Ben! Is there any other way to determine if we have the MTHFR than testing through genetic testing (23 & me)? Would it be ok to give someone a methylcobalanine (seeking health that’s what I take I’m MTHFR) if they are not MTHFR? Basically I’m asking if anyone should be taking the dog crap cyano? Thx so much! 😊
@DrBenLynch8 ай бұрын
You can test through 23andme, Ancestry or SelfDecode. I like SelfDecode the most as it is privately held, I like the founder, Joe (great and smart guy) and they have a great privacy policy. selfdecode.com/?a_aid=seekinghealth and use code SDDRLYNCH to save 10% on your purchase. Then, you would get the raw data from their genetic test and run it through StrateGene which is the report I created. SelfDecode has reports too so if you're happy with what they offer, you would not need StrateGene. No one should use cyanocobalamin or folic acid. Both are trash. You would use either methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, folinic acid or methylfolate. We have all these available at seekinghealth.com in lozenges, chewable multivitamins and capsules.

TL:DR Methylfolate supplements help me while plenty of choline with a sped up BHMT does not and it makes no sense to me. Does a high serum folate without taking in folic acid still mean that i need more methyl folate if supplementing helps? (In other words, does the Mfolate do anything else than create SAM with B12 and HC? because choline BHMT pathway should also take care of this as far as i know?) With my SNP's (comp het + MTHFD1's etc) i should create around 77% less methyl folate, I dont take folic acid at all and eat whole foods and my folate serum levels are high, yet when i stop taking methyl folate (only 120 mcg) i get a pale face and anxiety after a while, this does not make sense to me at all (B12 HoloTC was also fine). I do a lot of weight training and eat around 180g of protein, the methionine/choline alone from eggs and meat should give me enough SAM, yet the folate still helps me where the choline does not? i cant figure this out. No variations in MTR/MTRR, MAT, even have a sped up BHMT.

Guys i just wanna say that mthfr or mtrr doeasnt mean anything, if you have mthfr at least 50% reduction just take 3mg of suplemental ryboflavin because b2 highly speeds up mthfr, mtrr regenerates methylcobalamin but its only important if you are under huge stress in your live like injury or other problems, cbs enzyme is very important because of gluthatione so you want to suplement with nac(and maybe glycine), bhmt may lower your remathylation to methionine from homocysteine so its important to lower methylation demand by suplementing with creatine and if you have mutations in creatine synthesis or cbs it may lead generaly to overmethylation of system because your body compansate by methylating more so depending on mutation suplement with creatine or nac
