I have the plug in IKEA under mounted lights. I was able to connect two strips together with the switch between them. The are attached with command strips and I pushed the extra wiring up between the space where my two upper face framed cabinets come together. Because the face frame comes down in front I didn’t need a valance or canopy to hide them. I’ve never had a problem with the lights coming down and have had them for several years now. Once or twice the switch came down because it’s what’s handled the most but I just stuck it back up, no problem. I’m pretty sure the whole thing cost less than $20 when I bought it (I think when they still had the Akirum line instead of Sektion). Best money I ever spent.

I need to think about heating if I remodel because the best spot to put the fridge is next to a forced air heat register. I think it could be moved between the joist bays in the basement to the other side of the room with a toe kick outlet under my shallow tall cabinets. I have two 18” wide x 12” deep tall pantry units that I love and would be keeping or if replaced would go with the same sizes. Whichever one has the heat under it could be used as a broom closet side with my cordless vacuum and cleaning supplies or I could store back stock of paper towels on the lowest shelf.

Catching late ….it’s wonderful…the greatest part for me was about paper towels. Well…I have beautiful basket to place them in so they are easily accessible and my kids don’t have to holler thru the house MOM!!!! WHERE IS THE PAPER TOWELS😂🤣😂🤣 and the basket can be moved around with out the roll taking off across the floor😭😂🤣😂🤣 have a Blessed day and success to all the Tobin crew🌸… I forgot same thing goes for aprons…easy access and in view so there is no guessing ☺️

Flooring under the base cabinets, definitely. Every once in a while you can remove those planks that hide the feet of the cabinets and clean underneath the cabinets.

Really enjoy your show as we are in the design phase of a new home (downsizing). This is the second time we will have built a custom home, but I'm finding it more difficult because of the downsizing (I think). Your channel is making the process easier as it provides ideas and areas I hadn't considered although spouse and I have started working with a kitchen designer.

Missed the livestream, but had to comment on the outlets. My parents' home was built in the 1950s, kitchen has never been redone. The only accessible outlet is next to a 24" section of counter (rangevon one side, fridge on the other). They can only use 1 appliance at a time, and it's very cramped.

I have a degree in Interior Design and no floor and cabinet does not have to match exactly. If they are in the same color but different hues. You can always add accents to pull it together.

Didn't make it in time for the live feed. Thanks for presenting these kitchen mistakes. We are starting the process w a kitchen designer/custom cabinet business. Decided to stay in the original 1960 footprint and keep our coved ceilings/soffit which keeps the personality of the room and saves money. Hope we don't end up with any "mistakes" 😉🤞

Just my opinion, but you will regret keeping soffits.

37:40 I've been going with bold color in my small countertop appliances. Started with an "Empire Red" KitchenAid Stand mixer, carrying the red to my Dash toaster, my hand blender, handles on my cooking knives, (Victorinox Swiss Army red), etc. It stands out from most of the colors in my proposed palette for countertop, cabinets, and floor. I'm considering electric outlets that will pop up from the countertops instead of wall sockets. 51:10 Cabinets or flooring first? I've chosen a click-type laminate floor ("Lifeproof" from that store with the orange sign, where my dog likes to schmooze with the staff), and the staff there says that the lifetime limited warranty is voided if the floor is installed under the cabinets, so the cabinets should probably go first. I will install it before the fridge and dishwasher go in since these large and unwieldy pieces have to be replaced from time to time and dragging them across the edge of $4/square foot-plus-installation flooring , well, what could go wrong? Garbage disposal? Hey! I have an elkhound and the things that he wants but would make him sick, he's resourceful at getting into the garbage, long story short, if you're on your city's sanitary sewer system, it's a good idea, and get the most powerful one you can afford. I found mine on eBay, it's brand-new, and it is the one that sells around $400 at the home center (I paid about the price of a contractor-grade cheap-o). eBay and other auction sites can be a good resource for appliances, dishes, and installations.

You featured a slab porcelain product that came in a "soapstone-like" pattern. The more I look at porcelain countertops, the more there is to like. I would be interested in any Porcelain-follow up videos you may make. (The marble patterns would look amazing on your "forgotten" backsplash.-if the manufacturer was willing to cut a deal for an honest review *hint*)

Yes, I've been thinking the same thing. They are sending me new samples too. I would love porcelain backsplash.

Missed again! The laminate counter with undermount sink is very clean looking. Did the fabricator put the lip of the undermount sink atop a counter - routed out wood/base material to have it flush, then glue new laminate on top? Edit: our base cabinets will be like our dark stained oak dining room set. Our countertops and flooring will be the mud point between the cabinets and the white uppers and tiled walls to add contrast. Don't think it would possible to match exactly. Need the same undertones - our flooring will have warm tones not cool or gray tones.
@MTKDofficial2 жыл бұрын
I've read through the fabrication instructions and it is quite extensive. You definitely need to know what you're doing. I want to try it. Matching exactly can be difficult. You could probably get it close enough that it wouldn't be really noticeable. Depends on the age of the wood too.

Why couldn’t IKEA be lowered by just putting on shorter or taller legs? Since the toe kick isn’t attached it seems like they would be the easiest and cheapest to adjust the height of. In the era that my house was built (1918) cabinets didn’t have a toe kick and the frame when straight to the floor. That was true throughout most of the 20’s and 30’s. Might be a problem for people with large feet, but people short enough to need a lower counter height generally have smaller feet to go with their smaller frame.

15:30 I notice the absence of a disposal. I am replacing my puny old contractor-grade piece with a new InSinkerator one-horsepower job about the size and shape of the oil bath air breather on a 54 Hudson Hornet Twin-H Power. 19:55 I've been thinking floor-to-ceiling pantry 24 inches wide and had overlooked the issue of standing it up. My space is 99 inches tall. I'm going to see what happens if I use a 21-inch pantry and widen the windows (the windows are at least 84 years old, probably closer to 90) and the wall will have to be reframed at least up to the countertop level because the rim joist and floor joists are in need of some love as well due to a plumbing failure inside the wall, said plumbing to be replaced as well. Anyhow, if the pantry height cuts down to 84 inches keep in mind, also, that the galley is only 7'9" wide by 10'9" long, and the space countertop to countertop will only be about 47 inches wide. Better to think about it before I pull the trigger and ideas become change orders. Graph paper is relatively cheap.

Easy cleaning is why I dislike microwaves. All I ever used it for anyway was to reheat coffee and it did a terrible job. The coffee was bitter. Haven’t used one since the summer of 2019.
@5610winston2 жыл бұрын
The 'wave is most useful in reheating, and with the right tray and practice it can cook bacon acceptably. Don't try to heat a TV dinner or frozen pizza in one. You will not like the result. I an still in the planning stage, but I have a Bosch 500-series I bought when I thought all I needed was a new range hood, new countertops, new vinyl laminate floor, and a coat of paint.

What sane person would want oil paintings in their kitchen? If you use the space to actually cook instead of for show, there is water, steam, grease splatter, smells from onion and garlic. All of that will get embedded into the canvas and will cause permanent damage to the art.
@earthangel25248 ай бұрын
I don't have great-art oil paintings. I have portraits of my favorite cooks like Julia Child and my mom. Just 8 1/2 x 11 in plastic frames--heartwarming and wipeable if needed. Makes me happy.
