Sunroof maintenance on VW, Skoda, Seat and Audi cars - TUTORIAL

VW Golf 7 - proper sunroof maintenance
Sunroof is an excellente piece of equipment that really makes driving even more comfortable and luxurius almost as having a cabriolet. But it also requires suitable maintenance. If maintenance is not done, it can become a worts nightmare with very expensive repair costs.
In this video I have discussed proper sunroof maintenance which should lead to trouble free enjoyment of the sunroof.
Even though it is presented on VW Golf 7, tips apply to sunroof maintenance on all cars from VW group, so also Skoda.

Strešno okno je dodatna oprema, ki naredi vožnjo še udobnejšo in luksuznejšo, saj je skoraj kot da bi imeli kabrioleta. Vendar zahteva tudi ustrezno vzdrževanje, saj se v nasprotnem primeru lahko spremeni v pravo nočno moro s precej visokimi stroški popravil.
V tem videu bom predstavil ustrezno vzdrževanje strešnega okna, ki bi moralo voditi k brezskrbni uporabi strešnega okna.
Navodila veljajo za strešna okna vseh vozil VW koncerna.

Hvala. Sam sem osebno navdušen nad strešnim oknom, saj dobiš delno kabrio doživetje, je pa to seveda še ena dodatna stvar, ki se lahko pokvari. Se pa ta možnost z ustreznim vzdrževanjem in uporabo zmanjša na minimum.

I use a silicone grease. Shin Etsu is a high quality brand.

Glycerol I believe. Its used for a lot of things, including person lubricant 😮

I have a 21 Jetta that has the larger sunroof but it seems that when it’s open all the way there’s still a quarter of it that is closed with room to go. I thought it would open more. ???

I'm trying to figure out the same thing for my Audi A3. ECS Tuning seems to have it. 8V5877155A is the part number. Mine is fading, looks like the clear coat is fading, except from what body shops are telling me is that it's plastic, not metal, and needs to be replaced. None of them want to touch it and told me I'm better off either bringing it to the dealership or just leaving it alone sadly. Seems like a HUGE job

For a start check if it is lubed. If yes, get it serviced ASAP before it bends the rails.

Get it to a specialized mechanic ASAP and do NOT close/open it anymore because you will (if they are not already) bend the trails and the cost is cca. 1500 eur.

​@@carcosmeI use mine everyday...it's rarely used in winter,and south african winters aren't that cold after 9am the weather becomes so I pop it up and slide it back like an inch or two and let the sunlight into the cabin

Sorry, I do not have sunroof on my car. Best is with air compressor, so that you do not disconnect the tube lines.

Spray on dry lube only hinged hardware: Please read the VW Owners Manual on the subject It says: DO NOT DO THE RAILS WITH IT! You need a 'white lithium' grease for the rails Only use (incredibly expensive, like $25 for a big tube of it) Genuine Audi - Volkswagen Sunroof Grease Mfg Part # G00045002
