The total fantasy that Rhoda weaves to explain Joe's overnight absence is phenomenal. So well acted, and very well written. Very impressive. Joe's story of what may or may not have actually happened, is lacklustre, and dull.

Not really . My friends and I even do girls trips a few times a year. It is important to keep friendships and not forget friends when you have a relationship. My mom used to even do girls trips in the 70's and leave us with my dad. Wasn't a big deal. My dad was happy to take over with the kids while she went. That is how it should be. And vice versa if a guy wants guy time.

I find it so adorable that so many people discuss the characters in this show as if they were REAL people with real problems. The power of stories. And people love to be detectives for sure. That kind of instinct helped us survive, apparently. As a writer, I find it really interesting. Anyway, great show. And I agree with everyone that Joe character is a real jerk.

the guy who plays Rick, Don Chastain, was very handsome. The character may seem over the top to younger viewers, but Rick was typical of someone whom you might meet in a bar in the '70s: self-consciously handsome, styled, moussed hair, shirt unbuttoned to his navel with a gold chair or two around his neck, and a smooth, easy of talking to women.

When he said "I own this bar, I don't take orders, I give them." 😳 Excuse me, Mr. Big! That's a fast way to lose customers now adays! I feel like even back then it was probably considered rude. But maybe I'm wrong, because they just accepted it like it was par for the course.

I saw most of the 'Rhoda' episodes when new.I never thought even back then that Rhoda and Joe were right for each other. He seemed cold and aloof, lacked a personality, really.Rhoda acted like she'd rather do single person things instead of being married.Joe's explanation for his lateness sounded like he rehearsed it over in his mind for hours...too lame and stiff.

Joe was lying. This was to set up their divorce by season 3. He was not committed to Rhoda, and was having affairs behind her back. The writers wanted to add tension and drama to the series, because once they got married where do you go from there?

@@glen7318 They did split because he felt stifled & he finally admitted that the most he wanted to do was live together without marriage. Naaaah - Joe knew that Rhoda was out with the girls and they came back at 2 am. , and he was not there what I would do is to give my friend the boots, not call my sister because it is 2 am and then go to sleep. Joe would come home the next day and then we would talk about where he left if he didn't leave a note. And I could do this even without a cell phone. As for Joe's story of what happened, he should've showed some proof that he got his car fixed otherwise I would not believe him. As for the friend and sister leaving when Joe came back I would have just sleep where they are. This episode made Rhoda seem really crazy in the head though.

Susie had several kids, she had responsibilities Rhoda didn't have. Rhoda had no kids, but seemingly thought Susie should neglect her own kids for Rhoda. It was crappy of Rhoda to be so bossy to Susie. Myrna should have kept the dinner date with Rhoda at her apt., she could have taken a rain check for a date with the bus driver. Rhoda should have been more attentive to her own marriage instead of bossing Myrna and Susie. Rhoda was always insecure about her marriage, and her self esteem was so low. She was always so wired, and very negative. She has no trust in Joe. She needed to chill out, big time.

ButterNut Soap Company I'm gonna just pretend I never watched this episode because Joe AND Rhoda irritated me in it. Deep down Rhoda HAD to suspect Joe's story sounded like hogwash that he made up on the drive home! How could she not bust him for lying or at least check for some proof of his story being true?

Whoever said in the comment section that she liked Rhoda because she was sassy on the Mary Tyler Moore show and not insecure, you did not watch the show because she was very insecure on the Mary Tyler Moore show as well because she was chunky I

I have never liked Myrna. And why was it okay for Rhoda to stay out so late but not her husband? The only time I stay out that late is with my husband.

It's normal to spend a night out with friends, once in awhile. Joe acted so strange about it. I didn't believe his battery story either. You don't often fix a battery, maybe back then it could run dry and some water might do it but sounds fishy. Who wears a sportscoat to go for a drive ??

Knowing Jews, Rhoda's then husband David groh must have really ticked off the writers of Rhoda for him to leave Rhoda on such a cheesy slimeball manner. Being married to her y then changing y wanting to be a swinging, free loving boyfriend to her again. What a jerk.

Rhoda sometimes gets bossy, and her husband should be #1 to her.Susan can't dump her kids for Rhoda, and that one had a fever.Rhoda should have told the bar owner she was married, when he first started on her.Rhoda didn't even understand why Susan checked on her child...The kid had a temperature of over 100 degrees! It's also weird that in 2 episodes Rhoda encourages Joe to go somewhere without her, in this one and in Bump in the Night she tells him to go fishing with his dad in FL, that they don't always have to do things together.I think they should've dated longer, even though she is 30, she seems to not have any idea what marriage is, and the writers could've created funny 'adventures' to their dating. She just seemed to be stuck in 'single' mode.Actually, I never could imagine Rhoda or Mary ever being married on their shows because they seemed more like 1970's career women.Brenda, I can see being married.
