I was addicted to Coca-Cola. Had at least a liter every day for years. Tried quitting over and over and over again, but one day I got so depressed about it effecting my health I just stopped. I didn’t expect to keep it up but I have, for two years. I tried half a bottle a few weeks ago because I couldn’t remember what it tastes like. I don’t miss it. Taking me a lot longer to get rid of the rest of my sugar etc addictions. My entire family is overweight and finding something decent to eat in this house is impossible. When my mother does make some sort of vegetable she puts so much fucking butter on it you can’t see any in there, just tips of broccoli swimming among a butter sea. It’s so gross. Started taking up cooking recently though so that helps a lot. Hope you can rid yourself of Mountain Dew. :[

I don't drink soda all the time but I always feel that need in the background. It's probably 30% soda 60% water 10% other drinks for me and I'm in good health but, y'know, all this coulda been avoided if I had never been introduced to the stuff in the first place. I feel you.

@helioscomis37327 жыл бұрын
Theres the idea that you were addicted to mtn dew, but then theres the additional plausible idea that your parents didn't articulate to you why they were no longer providing mtn dew (At the time, you have stated a post-hoc reasoning as to why they might've done it and it might be that they told you themselves why they did it.) and so instead of internalizing that excessive soda was bad, you internalized that you were losing something you enjoyed consuming for an arbitrary reason which would fuel a depressive spiral.
@omnilisk2797 жыл бұрын
Helios Comis There's that possibility but you can get addicted to soda very easily especially Mountain Dew. My mother and I were addicted to it for a long time and when I finally stopped it was a horrible few months. Water tasted like liquid headache because of a sudden decrease in sugar and whatever else they put in that stuff.

you have to try matcha green tea, you can get it pretty cheap as a powder in asia stores. That stuff tastes intense and has no unhealthy side effects (besides obviously theine).
@driaodrums7 жыл бұрын
You may not use boiling water, or it will ruin the taste, it should be around 60-80 degree celcius. You can also use milk instead. I usually boil the water then stretch it with cold water, then put a little on the powder (one tea spoon a cup) and stir it to avoid clumps. Then i fill the rest of the cup. If you want the full matcha experience you can use a milk frother to add some bubbly texture.

I used to dew the same, and then I discovered coffee. I can drink black coffee all day and not worry about getting fat from it. It fills your body with antioxidants, so when I drink I can go ham. So if you want a coffee suggestion: take deathwish coffee, brew that normal. Take fireproof coffee and brew that like you would espresso. Pour the fireproof into the steaming deathwish and you are left with a concoction that might kill someone with a weak constitution. My buddy calls it Deathproof, though it's probably the opposite. In my case it's like Popeye just ate some spinach.

Soda addictions are probably the most widely untreated ones. Now I've been without it so long that carbonation is kind of shitty to me because it burns, but holy shit has chocolate milk been something I impulsively drink. If it's around the house, I can't stop myself. I don't think people who are prone to getting addicted to drinks really have a chance escaping that, especially with pretty much two dollars a gallon for anything you could ever like.

The problem is that american culture doesn't view it as a real thing. People underestimate how bad drinks are for them, because in nature the only real drink (for adults) is water. The last attempt I heard of addressing this problem was New York's Soda Tax, which was so massively unpopular that it got repealed quickly after it got passed. Americans love their soda.
@smallman97877 жыл бұрын
There are no organizations making people aware of it, people ironically talk about the negative effects they have, it's cheaply and easily available, and there aren't even anyone willing to help you out with it in general, because they think it's easy to stop even though I know headaches and stomach aches are very common among people who attempt to.

I know the addiction. I've been drinking 3 cans a DAY of Mountain Dew for probably a few years. Sometimes I'll only drink 2. My parents got me a water carbonator for Christmas this year which gets me to drink almost a liter (27 fl oz) of water a day but then they say they don't want to buy more than a case every few weeks. Mountain Dew is the only soda/pop here that still has caffeine. Since I don't drink coffee and very seldom energy drinks I have nothing to keep me awake. When I go without Mountain Dew I'm a lazy, exhausted mess with zero energy.

I know that feel Digi. I used to be EXTREMELY addicted to Coke (the cola not the drug) but I was saved by the miracle of lemon water. I highly recommend seeking some out. It's basically carbonated water with lemon flavoring. It tastes EXACTLY like Sprite, except its just water. That effectively replaced the whole of soda for me, and I no longer crave it. Been entirely a water boy for 4 years now and the thought of going back to soda makes my teeth scream. I will say, try a bunch of different kinds. I tried the version Wallmart sells and was practically scrubbing the taste out of my mouth with a sponge seconds later. Best version I ever found is from HEB, which is exclusively a Texas chain sadly. HUGE fuckin bottle for 50 cents each - it's heaven. Anyways, quitting soda was the first major step I achieved in my weight loss battle. Without that, everything else would've been pointless. It always surprises me how important cars are for Americans. “How could I go to the store? I had no license”. I'm 23 and never even considered getting license or car. Why drive yourself when you can just read/watch/sleep on the bus/train instead of focusing on the driving. Cars are also expensive to buy/maintain, and it takes time and effort to learn how to drive. I guess in the US you have less public transport. And also less groceries, cos where I live there is a store every 500-1000 meters. Not saying it's worse to live in the US, just some interesting cultural differences.
