The weird lack of excitement is a personality trait due to an excess for novelty-seeking- something very Haruhi-ish, and something I can relate to, as well. I believe you mentioned you get burnt out if working on a project too long- same here, and relates to the same issue. The biggest thrill is the discovery itself, which is gone once you own the manga and are aware of its existence for so long. The excessive novelty-seeking, for some people, can be related so such things as: having high extroverted intuition, ADD/ADHD, antisocial personality disorder, and low dopamine levels.

I have the same problem as digi, but to be honest i just download a shitton of shows so it's hard to choose something i already have in stock. It seems boring to watch something that's already reported to be good since other people have already discovered it. (It's also likely to have mass appeal which often makes for a less exciting work)

The way I've gotten around the guilt of not watching something is to make some rules for myself. I only feel obligated to watch shows when/if they are getting a sequel so that I can keep up with that (I prefer seasonal anime to binging due to the discussion threads). I don't read manga at all, I've never been able to get into comics or manga since I have some sort of clinical disability where following panels is a fucking pain which means I read the next best thing, light novels. I only buy Light Novels that I've read and want a real copy to support the creator.

Interesting, I'm the opposite, I pretty much only read manga and I can hardly watch anime since I can't consume it at the pace I want to

I agree completely with the point on only being excited about obscure Manga you have never heard of it. It's the idea of finding a hidden little gem that appeals so much to you that makes it so compelling for me

I feel the same way about buying lots of manga then not reading them immediately. I'll read the first volume or series and maybe by the time I finish that I'll feel like reading/buying something else, mostly skipping the stuff I already bought. I've solved this problem by not buying something unless it's the next thing I feel like reading. I'm doing this with the Spice and Wolf light novels right now. Instead of buying all the volumes at once to make it easier I'll only buy one volume at a time to keep my interest high for each volume. If I don't feel like reading the next volume I'll wait a few weeks or months and buy the next one when I feel like it.

these might have to be more of a catalyst than a discrete timeframe which to be fair they already have a couple of times this might be the best result yet it's gotta be, because i already don't hate it and this train's gonna keep a rollin' at least long enough to implement another idea into it

Son you just described why so many people prefer seasonal anime. Why go back to the good gems from the past when something new and exciting comes out every season?
@awsomeboy3607 жыл бұрын
Many people watch new anime because of the talk around them. Not that much people talk about old anime, hell, not that much people talk about animes that came out 5 years ago, let along 10 years ago. And 10 years ago was 2008.

A taste does change, we all through out some stuff (but I woudn't just throw it in the thrash, give it to people who would like it). And everybody is different. I personaly can't stand Manga that just go on and on and on. It's wonderful that the authors can live from that so long some times - but often it just feels like a tame waste. I can't stand novel series that go on for longer then 4 books. If a Manga reached volume 20, I usually stop collecting and just write what I would think would be the end from there. It's also a good writing practise for me.
@joemuis237 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. If a story is long almost always i feel locked in to finishing it. I don't wanna drop it since I wan't to resolve what happens to the characters. But in all honesty I just want a different experience.

No some person on twitter asked him to read dorohedoro if he had not heard of it. I assumed Digi is like me and basically knows every manga, especially older ones that are widely talked about like Dorohedoro so I responded "He definitely knows about Dorohedoro, probably for a long time lol". Digi responded with "Lol yeah ive known about it for a long time". Not verbatim but a summary of what happened lol
