As you well know, it's the culture, your parents and your elders had to be well respected and this is why African culture needs to be protected. This is what is coming through in this documentary.

Itumeleng there is just something about pregnancy that brings out the best in you. I was 22 when I fell pregnant with my baby boy. I was in final year of varsity and was devastated though my boyfriend was by my side and still is. When he arrived i was so determined to go ahead and finish my qualification and my boyfriend said to me , I will not graduate without you. We took turns to baby sit to fit our school schedules during the weekends. Through the support of my mom , boyfriend and family I graduated. I tell that child gave me all the motivation i needed in life. Not that I wanted a child out of wedlock but like they say when life gives you lemons make lemonade mntase. That girl will go far I tell you. Just knowing that you have someone to live for brings out the best in you.

I so loved and was inspired by Nhlanhla's braveness after she found out that she was HIV positive, she did not let that stand in her way and by that I mean she did not punish the baby but instead she made sure that the baby did not get infected and she took her medication and was always eager to find out what she could do to protect the baby. For a person in her age group it showed intelligence and that she is a resoponsible person. I wish her and the rest of the girls all the best in future-May all their dreams come true and I'm so happy that you guys took the decision of going back to school. Yho... The girl with HIV makes me think twice about having unprotected sex, and I also like the fact that she's not allowing that to bring her down. Before, I didn't mind not using protection as I tend to go wherever the wind takes me when I'm in love. I'm considering myself lucky as I haven't fallen pregnant yet nor came in contact with any diseases. I think the problem with us, teenage girls, is that when we are in love we tend to be submissive to our partners to the point that we don't mind falling pregnant BUT we tend to be so trusting that we forget about the diseases related to that. Only one episode and I've already learnt a lot... I hope many teenage girls would make better decisions in the future. This show has totally won me over!

I wish all versions of 16 and Pregnant was as informative as this!! I don’t think they ever go into this much detail on the American on British versions. I was in floods of tears when that girl was talking to her brother about having to not have her baby’s father in her life after finding out she is HIV positive. If they showed this version on tv I think it would make more people wear condoms! I have an older family member who is HIV positive and his life is just like normal due to medication he’s on. We don’t realise how lucky we have it here in England...

Nomfundo V !!! I was getting heated when he tried to walk away. What happened to respecting your elders. You both fucked up and now she's pregnant and he's already showing he's a deadbeat. You can't respect his child and low-key want to abandon your responsibilities and think her dad will want to embrace you?! You're mad!! And for her to sit there and let him call her father crazy, she's stupid too. This is what her friends were saying; she has no backbone when it comes to him and let's him do as he pleases. She's let him become used to treating her this way

ByllionUwaila That's a very good observation, she seems like a push-over. Sometimes women don't look at the red flags in the beginning, more especially at such a young age as these girls. Our emotions get the best of us at times, not seeing filth when it's in plain sight.
@omphilemoerane2569
@omphilemoerane2569 7 жыл бұрын
ByllionUwaila she does seem like a push over. That's probably why Mokete preyed on her. She can't stand up for herself and she allows his disrespect. Also, it does not help matters that he is older than her so the balance of power is not equal. The common thing in all these young ladies stories is that they were all impreganted by an older guy, which is probably why they were not able to negotiate safe sex. Statistics also show that more teenage girls are infected with HIV than teenage boys so these girls are clearly mostly having sex with older men.

My son is 22 I had him when I was 16 my mum and dad told me to get an abortion or get out. So I left me and my now husband moved in together. My mum and dad didn’t visit me or talk to me to punish me just in case I had another child. I never get a baby shower any presents nothing from them my future mother in law was shocked and bought me a pram and basically helped us with everything I get on with my mum and dad now but It was not needed the nastiness they missed out on my son. I had another son when I was 24 same dad now my husband they were happy with that one. I am so happy to see this young lady getting a baby shower and more importantly love and support from her parents. I remember telling my gran I was pregnant and she said I now I could of told you weeks ago. I said are you not angry she said no a baby doesn’t harm anyone just gives you happiness. I am now 39 well educated and live in my own house with my husband of 20 years we are still in love I don’t regret a thing but for any parents out there worrying about a daughter or son having a child at 16 you can’t tell them not to you cannot make them get an abortion it’s not your like and if you punish them like my parents did you will have a child and a grandchild that suffer for no reason but you. A baby don’t harm anyone. Children are a gift. I always tell my children that no matter what you do or whatever happens in your life me and your dad will be with you every step of the way. The best thing about my life is my children. Every thing happens for a reason.
