Thanks, I've never fully been able to grasp how these things worked until now. It's actually fairly simple when you put it like this. I'd often wondered why the wheels would drag like that if you jacked the car up and started the engine in neutral.

I came here by chance and I'm glad I did. Very informative and detailed video! 👍 Now I just might have a go on rebuilding my MTX75 transmission for my Ford Focus 2009. 😊

Hey bro update how did it go I have same car and year, what kit did you use to rebuild?

@@kusamagaming7375 hi mate, I am yet to take it apart. Still sorting vibrations at high speed so just changed driveshafts yesterday, but feel I may try new tyres now, as balancing didn't help either. Do ask me again in a couple of months. I've put second hand gearbox in mine for now and although its better its not perfect either.. still bit notchy but only in first ratio and not all the time..

Thank you for making this video series, Mr. patience. I accidentally deleted a much more in-depth explanation of my MTX75 in my ‘07 focus zx3 hatchback. I think I know what is wrong with my xmsn now. There is a grinding sound above 3k rpm’s as I shift into 4th gear. So, now I shift under 3k rpm’s. I bought this car last September (2021) with 159k miles on the odometer.

Thank you for this video! A question for you as you seem to know a great deal about these transmissions. What are the differences in the subvariations of the mtx75? ie the difference between a 2s4r and a ys4r? Can they be interchanged with each other?

When you spin it in neutral the differential also moved. I noticed while my car was in the air with the engine on, in neutral, the wheels started spinning a little, I could stop them by hand but if I gave them a little push they kept on rolling. Also the revs drop giving the feel that the engine is being killed while stopping at red lights. Is it getting stuck in gear just a tiny bit? How is this possible?

How do you get the gears off to get to the synchros to replace them
@davidpatience46823 жыл бұрын
You have to press the bearings off the end of the shaft, which typically requires bearing replacement.

what is your opinion on using ATF fluid in a MTX? it was very common to use this in the past and now i would need to use GL-4 oil? in winter it is -30C here and i would also like to save 100$ in oil. is it OK to use ATF?
@davidpatience468227 күн бұрын
I have used ATF. Depending on the year and application it was the recommended fluid in some cases. Other applications recommend MTF or "syncromesh" fluid which I prefer when available. I have not seen a recommendation for gl-4; I think it would be very stiff at -30.

@@davidpatience4682 alright thank you very much for your help! i was very worried at first, but since it looks like all the gears will be throughtly coated in oil it should be alright. ATF seems to be extremely stringent in its specs so if its coating the parts well i dont think there will be problems.
