0:53 - 1:06 Basically, it's the same problem in Okinawan Karate and Japanese Jujutsu. I really really don't understand why these groups refuse to reintroduce freestyle sparring into their curriculum. This same problem is why people make more practical offshoots like Muay Thai, hard styles of modern Karate and Judo.

Master can you teach defense mechanism of mua Boran next ?
@TheLuconic Жыл бұрын
Basically Muay Boran has just as much potential as it’s popular style Muay Thai and it has just as much tools if not more than lethwei, but it’s literal problem is that it’s practitioners are too deep into theory and safety to gain any traction. Sad indeed since this plagues many martial arts to this day.
@GaawutProductions Жыл бұрын
Yeah, exactly. Plus, Thailand doesn't really care about having Muay Boran competitions, there is only one Muay Boran master that trained his fighters to compete in MMA (which is the closest thing you can get to a real Muay Boran fight in Thailand). All the other masters either don't care or just aim to apply Muay Boran in Muay Thai bouts.
@teovu5557 Жыл бұрын
@@GaawutProductions There isnt really a style called "Muay Boran" as Boran just means ancient and is a generic term for all pre- modern muay thai systems. Muay Chaiya still has students who compete in amateur MMA and Muay Thai bouts. Muay Korat is almost a dead system. Muay Thasao doesnt teach foreigners and students dont compete though modern muay thai is basically Thaosao in terms of tactics and techniques preferred. And the rest just into performance and theory rather then actual fighting sadly.
Rope Wraps weren't always used in Muay Boran, generally, they weren't used when linked to military purposes; the drawings you can see in the video come from the oldest Muay Boran manuscript ever found and they show military techniques done without wearing ropes since soldiers had to wield weapons and wear armor, and also had to be capable of fighting without any item. Lethwei is considered bare-knuckle as gauze is not enough to protect the hand.

what's the most pactical and effective muay boran style in your opinion? from my observation it seems to be korat but better to hear the answer from the master himself.
@GaawutProductions Жыл бұрын
Among the traditional ones I would say Korat too, but it's not only about the style but how it is trained, and I've never seen functional Muay Korat training till now sadly, but maybe there is somewhere. If you are looking for functional training Kru Lek (Muay Chaiya) is probably the best master, but from my perspective his teachings are too much structured for fighting under Muay Thai rules. Regarding the modern styles, Muay Nam for sure, wait for the new updates 💪
@WasiulWahid-ot7cj Жыл бұрын
thanks for the detailed answer! it's a shame that people even on thailand aren't making much of an effort in preserving and properly practising one of the most beautiful and fascination boxing styles even tho it's successor muay thai is one of the most popular martial arts in mma. i also really appreciate your strong attempt at preserving and innovating on the art which the westerners don't know and thais themselve don't care about. your passion for the art is very evident throughout the years. can't wait for more updates.

I have a question can I still use some Muay chaiya techniques even when I'm tall?
@CVTMYV3INS Жыл бұрын
@Christian Tate oh okok
@GaawutProductions Жыл бұрын
It depends on your strategy, you can use its techniques but the Chaiya guard and closed attitude reduce your range. If you want to exploit the range advantage use a more tall and long guard, like the Korat one for example. It all depends on your preferred way of fighting, your game plan, and on your opponent's characteristics and habits, there is no universal answer 🙏
