Thanks sean for all your tutorial videos! It has helped me a lot. I took up muay thai about 6 mths ago(40 classes attend to be exact). I get beat up during sparring sessions by my mates every time lol... Yes, they are my seniors(they have trained for 1-2 years) and i m okay getting beaten up coz i want to learn. I juz couldnt get someone my level to spar with coz most of them are not interested in sparring. The reason i get beat up is because i tend to slowly backing off when they are attacking me with punches and kicks. I wish i can learn how to stand still and hold my guard while being attacked and return some counter. But i just couldnt react in time throw some counters. I hope you can do a video tutorial that teaches us to see punches/kicks coming our way in a sparring session and how to have a strong guard and stop backing off while being attacked so that we can avoid creating space for our opponents to launch more combos. Thanks alot!

Interesting to hear.. I'm a southpaw but feel like my right kick, I can fire off quicker and maybe almost as powerful.

Cowboy Cerrone does not do a full turnover as well especially on his lead round kick which he loves to throw out of nowhere. I noticed that less focus on turning over your kicks creates plenty of possibilities because you are able to hide them much more effectively. Sean, are you a fan of these quick round kicks or are you more of a heavy power kick fan?
@seanfagan7 жыл бұрын
I like to mix them up to keep my opponent guessing. I tend to throw quick snap kicks to gauge my opponents reaction so I can setup other strikes. I like the power roundhouses to counter and drive my opponent back.

Thanks for reply Sean! I am a huge fan of hiding kicks ala hoost and cerrone. But lately I am interested in traditional Muay Thai way of dominantly using power kicks and how it can change my game.
@seanfagan7 жыл бұрын
Yea I hear ya. I feel the power kicks are a great way to counter and to keep your opponent from being too aggressive, especially if you're able to hammer your shin into their arms as they move forward. That'll make them think twice before throwing punches at you!

Could you explain how the tibia should be lined up? I have a feeling Im over turning my leg, not entirely sure where on the chin I should be hitting my target.

can you explain why Joseph valtellini never swiped his right arm when he did right low kicks and kept the gloves to his face. I just fought last week and after every leg kick he would catch me with a straight punch so I'm thinking adapting Joe's style more instead of the traditional Thai style
@seanfagan7 жыл бұрын
There's a variety of different ways to throw a low kick and Bazooka Joe tends to use that to have his face protected from counter punches. He's not able to turn over the kick as much, but his kicks hurt a ton either way!
@123ftw1237 жыл бұрын
Sean Fagan it definitely does hurt.. I train at Joe's gym here in Toronto and he always advocates keeping the hand up for low kicks to avoid being counterpunched. Even if it's not as powerful as a traditional thai kick where they would swing their arms for momentum, being kicked frequently (even at a less powerful output) has the same effect as being kicked with high amounts of force.

You think you might have been standing a little to in front of him when throwing it? from my experience, I only get caught on leg kicks when I am either standing in front of him during the kick, or if I am standing too upright. Hope this helped somewhat, cheers man! Keep Fighting!!

Gene Dunn yeah maybe I needed to step out more or crunch more when I throw it to get off the centerline
@ptmarkoviitanen7 жыл бұрын
I personally like to "swing hand" in traditional MT style when doing high kicks or kicks to the body, but I also block with hands when doing low kicks(kind of stiff shoulder style). I just find it safer that way.

HEROjetsblacks 25 learn where to strike, with what part of your shin, and roll your hips into the kick ( like you are jumping over a fence) chop downwards like your shin is a baseball bat and spin your shoulders with the kick to add more velocity
