At 31 weeks I went to the hospital for frequent Braxton hick contractions and they gave me a cervical exam and said my cervix was a little short and they did an ffn test and it came out positive and they kept me for observation. I ended up getting released because no change in cervix but I am currently 33 weeks and 5 days pregnant and lost my mucus plug 2 days ago but I have no symptoms besides Braxton Hicks. What does this indicate?

Hi Marissa. Losing your mucus plug means that your body is taking one step for preparing for the birthing process. Some moms go into labor days after losing the mucus plug, some go into labor weeks after, and some moms don't lose their mucus plug until they are well into labor. What I am saying is that it really can't tell us much more than you are getting closer to birth. Continue to pay attention to your contractions. Braxton-Hicks are not consistent. The interval between each contraction does not get shorter. They should go away when you rest. Continue to drink lots of water, and try to relax.

This sounds like you lost your mucus plug. Your body is preparing for birth. This does not mean that labor will start now. Labor may start soon or it may start in a few weeks. Best wishes.

Hi. I love how you patiently replying to each comment! I'm currently 36wks now and had a bloody (bright colored) show yesterday. Went to hospital and said i was 1cm. With 140/90 BP. I was just given a steroids thru injection for 4x every 12hrs and was advised to take duvadilan. I had cramps and contractions but not continouos. I was sent home after. Should i expect to labor anytime soon? Thanks in advance!

Hello. Thanks for question. It sounds like your body is in the process of practicing for labor. I cannot say that labor will start soon. Each woman's body is different. Your contractions need to begin and not go away when you rest. The time between each contraction should start to become the same and the timing between each contraction should get shorter over the day. When your contractions become regular and painful then you are in true labor. Regular means that the time between one contraction to the next is less than five minutes and this should continue for at least one hour. The pain will increase to the point that you cannot talk while you are having a contraction. That is true labor and you can go to the hospital. Best wishes.

Congratulations! Your body is preparing for the big day. No worries about losing your mucus plug at this gestation if your "bag of waters" is still intact and you are not having frequent, painful contractions. If you are concerned, then call your OB/GYN's office for recommendation.

Hi Leah. Vaginal discharge is usually more of a thick liquid (think mucous). It can be milky white or yellow (ish) in color. Your mucus plug will more likely be a thick longs strand of mucus. It often presents with streaks of blood (light red to brown). The mucus plug might come out in one blob or in thick strands.

Vaginal discharge increases dramatically in the second and third trimester. The mucus that you saw could have been normal vaginal discharge to prevent bacteria from causing an infection. If you begin labor with contractions that increase in intensity with a normal pattern, then you need to call your doctor or go to the hospital. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

The mucus plug can be cloudy. The greenish color might have been old blood that can look light brown/yellowish/greenish. If there was a bad smell, then you should call your doctor. You can lose the mucus plug is pieces.

I recommend calling your OB/GYN to ask for his/her recommendation about being seen in the office. It is normal for vaginal discharge to increase in pregnancy. Your mucus will get thick and creamy as pregnancy progresses.

Your mucus plug does not always come out at one time. So, you might be seeing parts of the mucus plug discharge each time you use the bathroom. Also, you will continue to have vaginal discharge through your pregnancy. This is normal.

This sounds like the mucus plus plus bloody show meaning that your cervix is dilating and thinning out. The brown discharge was probably old, dried out blood. This is normal as long as the discharge did not have a foul odor (really bad smell). Best wishes as you might be going into labor in the next few days! Make sure you keep walking, use your birth ball to bounce / move your pelvis to help baby come down your birth canal and into this world to meet you! @@bintehavva2155 Nothing at that time. I ended up having contractions around week 26 and was admitted to the hospital for 23 hour observation and given medicine to help stop the contractions. It was blood pressure medication they gave me so my blood pressure dropped really low and I almost blacked out so they couldn’t give me the second dose. I was just monitored the rest of the time and my contractions went from being consistent to irregular so they sent me home. I still had small contractions off and on for the rest of my pregnancy but delivered at 39 weeks + 5 days. My baby is now 3 weeks old.
