I think winter is when monkeys are gathered there. I went in February, the bath was full, loads of monkeys everywhere, and some one was giving them seeds. So I think winter is when they cannot gather food because of the heavy snowfall (it was really heavy) and gather around the hot spring to take advantage of the humans. Totally agree, one of the best sites to visit in Japan!

I bet only train otakus and business trip heavy business men would be the ones because Japan's highway fee and train fee are quite expensive and Japan is a long country, like not a lot of Kanto area ppl occasionally go to Kansai (that's why they go to Kyoto Osaka for high school trips) esp Kyushu and Shikoku are not that common to go for most people

thats so crazy!! xD Having actually been to japan and seeing you go to the exact same restaurant I went to outside the snow monkey spot literally two weeks ago lol. Also, one of the snow monkeys picked up a HUGE rock and threw it down the cliff like 30 meters up to try and get another snow monkey LOL. It missed. I was in a tour group, and we didn't see the birds/serums or whatever they are either, but there were like 40 monkeys and it started snowing towards the end LOL. Seems like they're staying out later this year since you got to see them too!

Went to Nago in March 2018 (on my channel) but I didn’t end up going to the park. There is a live cam of the monkeys and it didn’t look like the pools had much activity. Later found out that that it only covers some of the pools and now I found out that you have to pay to get in! I do plan on going again and will go to the park regardless! Additionally, I agree that Hokkaido is the best❤

I have seen you rent a lot of cars so I wondered if you have any recommendations or tips for renting a car in Japan. I was thinking about renting a car instead of going by public transport next Japan trip.

i would recommend to always rent an ETC card too if you're going on tollways. Also search for parking lots for each place you're going to that are in the city. Have 2-3 lots mapped in case one is full. You can use google street view to check the prices. There's usually a day price per 20, 30, 40 minutes or hour, then a rate for night times, as well as max price per 24 hours.
