Dear Nicola, I just wanted to say how much I love watching your videos! I am a Londoner born and bred, from Hackney and have always been interested in the history of London. I am currently living in Brunei (S.E.Asia) with my husband and 2 daughters. I'm working here as a music teacher. I am sitting here in Brunei, binge watching your videos I discovered by chance last week, while in lockdown teaching online and suffering with Long Covid. All four of us got Covid in August. I ended up in hospital for 16 days and I am still not fully recovered :( You videos and the stories behind your finds are just so wonderful, I just can't stop watching them!!!! Sarah xxx

The message in a bottle is actually in Portuguese, and it seems to say "Paulo Gomes, Maria Gomes, separa, brigar, meter nojo, separar para sempre..." I can't make out the rest, but it would mean something like "Paulo Gomes, Maria Gomes, break up, fight, be sick of each other, break up forever". So not the nicest of messages lol

Well done on your award Nicola! You have a very natural and winning way with your presentations and your following will only get stronger. I didn’t hear whereabouts you were in the US but it was a great place to forage. That guy was a real lively collector.I loved the clip of him with guitar at the end! Well, here in Victoria, Australia they’ve brought back in the old deposit system. Mainly to stop all the bottles and cans ending up in rivers, sewers and the ocean. I think this is long overdue! My grandsons will earn a bit of pocket money whilst serving as eco evangelists. Win-win really! Stay safe everyone, and we’ll meet up again here, next week!😊 ❤️🦘🇦🇺

Good eye, Debbie. The indentations are sets for "gems," which would have been pasted in. Originally gilded, it must have been quite a posh accessory in it's day. One wonders about what color "stones" were used to adorn it.

Reading the comments, if it really is a curse or negative energy, maybe you can balance it out and write a positive version, wishing love and harmony to the people in the picture, and also to the one who wrote it? I can help with the translation, it's in Brazilian-Portuguese. Paulo Gomes Maria Gomes (these are names) Separar - bring apart Brigar - fight Meter nojo - this is an expression that means to be fed up or disgusted of someone Separar para sempre - to separate forever Alberto Foster And I cant really read the last word. This looks like a "simpatia" which is kind of a curse or witchcraft, in this case to make two people break up from their relationship, it's quite common in Brazil and I'd wager it was done by some teenagers. I wouldn't take it very seriously. Congrats on 100k subs, I've been following your channel for ages.

I’ve been watching your channel faithfully for the last two years. I love it. I’m 59, I had a stroke about 5 years ago so I don’t imagine I will ever mudlark, but instinctively I appreciate the joy of finding things on the ground. My mom used to compliment me for helping her find lost things with my “bright eyes”. You, missy, have also been given a set of wonderful bright eyes for finding things and taking such beautiful videos, so well composed with great lighting. Thank you for sharing them. Maria cut her's and Paolo's images from the framed, employee photograph, and stared at them one last time. These six months they had worked together towards sobriety at Lockhart's Cocoa Room, having fled Lisbon for a new life in London. They had fought, made up, promised, struggled and fought again, until she could take it no more. He was hopelessly lost in drink. She scribbled down her tearful accusations, and then stuffed the picture into the small, purple bottle in which Paolo had long hidden his whisky. Wrapping it thick in tape as she sobbed, she flung the container far out into the Thames. "He shall never deceive me again", she thought, smashing still more plates and cups, "so long as their story became a permanent part of the grey mud. Now I am free ..." (Based on Mr. McClure's fine translation below.)

The message in a bottle looks like an "amarre" or break up spell...apart from the two names, words mean "break up, fight, get sick, be separated forever". They look like brother and sister, that was made by someone who wants those sibling's relationship ruined forever. Black magig, bad thing. Don't throw it away to the river again, burn it please.

That’s it, it’s in portuguese. Similar to that other thing with the chinesse figurine Nicola. Very low stuff. (Here the plastic on the river indicates the warning!) - ok... blessings and the message related to the prize is beautiful, thank you and Congratulations 👏🏼💜💜

Congratulations on your KZbin award. I enjoyed your video & the finds. I especially liked the shot of that lovely coloured duck who was doing an arabesque. I was thrilled you were able to find a living relative of Alfred. You are lovely to go the extra mile & unite your finds where you can.

I so get a kick out of you..."do you see what i see" and i never really do! Not until you pick it up and i think how the heck did she see that! Spot the find challenge is always lost on me until you pick it up! What a treasure trove you have and i envy your searches!! Why didn't i do that when we were in London all those years ago? Simply because i didnt know about Nicola the Mudlark! Instead, i'll just continue to watch you and the search! Thanks so much for sharing!! Oh, and i Love when you show the wildlife along the river and congratulations on the 100K subscribers!!

It is written in portuguese but probably by a brazilian, as "brigar" verb is not used in Portugal. It is a spell, a curse.

Just looked up "seponor" and it says it is Latin, so Italian? Third from the bottom looks like "sempre" which is also Italian for "always'. So interesting! I believe it is Paulo and Marie Gomes?

Hi Nicola knowing that you like butterflies I thought you should know, as you saw a real one as well when you were out and about they are messages from nature about new beginnings, like a new job, somebody telling you they’re going to be a mum and a dad so about birth but also about joy and happiness and I think it’s very appropriate to say this to you as you just got your KZbin award as well, sending you many blessings and thank you for recording the way that you do and making everything interesting stay safe and be happy🤚🏻👊🏻🌷💫

I guess it is a spell the message in the bottle. Maybe in portuguese: "Paulo Gomes Maria Gomes Separar Brigar Meter nojo Separar para Sempre Alberto Foster Camilo" Wich could mean: "Paulo Gomes Maria Gomes Tear apart Fight Bring disgust Tear apart Forever Alberto Foster Camilo"

I guess the best is not to put in the river again... someone was wishing the brothers tears apart forever !!!! Better broke the spell

No, not really. Nicola has respect for her finds, and they have been grounded between rocks and sand, salt and water for such a long time, some for centuries, that a kind hand rescuing them for us to see is one of the more gentle things I think they experience. And Nicola usually gives them a swish in water to get the sand off 🙂🧡
