MH3U - Savage Deviljho Solo

Finally got it. There is certainly room for improvement, but I'm pleased with this run for now! Elemental bowing has quickly become one of my favorite play styles, and is yet another effective (and stylish) alternative to the mainstream mediocrity of the Kelbi Bow.

Awesome technique! Used it on my first attempt at bowing Jho and it worked really well (even though he kicked me around a little bit at first). Definitely going to keep using this playstyle against him.

Ahh, the humble Arko (Y) bow. Good lord this was a good elemental bow, really underappreciated, but it brought an absolutely INSANE amount of thunder element to your ranged arsenal as early as Normal mode and just kind of kept being insane all the way into G-Rank. I remember mauling G-Rank green plesi with this thing along with the HR Gigginox armor. Kelbi bow had nothing on this thing as long as you were up against something that was weak to thunder.

Crimson Quro did that to me on its 6* hunt quest. Deviljho gave zero fucks and ate the Quro.

The Shakalakas do some damage on their own, but you sacrifice predictability. Taking them along heavily impedes certain weapons and strategies. In my Lucent Narga solo, for example, I chose not to use them because I needed Narga's attention to be able to predict his attacks accurately. Ele-spamming a Deviljho, however, requires less predictability, and the Shakalakas' distraction doesn't impede my ability to shoot the legs. I consider that an advantage of using this strategy, not a handicap.

Like DatTwo2 said, no power coatings on this bow. I could have use CR, but I'm the time I might save would probably be similar to the time spent applying the coating, lol. I am focusing entirely on elemental damage for this run, which is unaffected by coatings.

This is incredibly fast compared to my solo with a GS. (usually takes about 35min) Do you ever get bored as a gunner? I have tried bows and bowguns and found it rather dull.

Monster fluid can be obtained through carving Giggi, Altaroth, and Bnahabras.

If spamming L2 charges isn't your thing, check out the Brachy Bow if you haven't already. High raw, natural power coatings, and spread L5 on the L3 charge. Very destructive.

Well,all weapon types have varying strengths, and the bows have somewhat low strength. That is because almost all of their shots do multiple hits. Their power doesn't GREATLY increase, but the extra damage is noticeable. Hope i helped.

Spamming the Lv2 charge does the most dps for both raw and elemental damage, thought I am focusing entirely on elemental damage for this run. The bow I'm using has Spread Lv3 (5 arrows) on the Lv2 charge, which deals more elemental damage than this bow's Lv3 charge, Rapid Lv3 (only 3 arrows). On top of that, I can get off Lv2 charges nearly twice as fast.

Great vid, and i totally agree with your description. i started using the kelbi bow, and i really dont like it. i remember elemental bowing everying in Unite and P3rd. no idea why i got away from it. it kills everything very effectively. Except maybe Ala because of all the rotating elemental weaknesses. but great vid.

I got pretty lucky. I was counting on Jho being just shy of capture ready, thinking the bombs would put him over the edge. Turned out the bombs alone weren't quite enough, but a single shot of arrows did the trick!

Assuming you're on land and using the Griffon Blazooka, go for Pierce Up, Recoil Down +1, Peak Performance, and Weakness Exploit

The bug bow is highly preferable for this run, but the Nether bow would probably work. You would have to spam Lv1 charges instead of Lv2 though

I built a set with Power Coating on this bow. My strategy is somewhat different. I focus on Lv3, Lv4 Arch shots to take the advantage of Stamina Thief and possibly KO. Hovever i only face normal Jho and it took me 27 minutes to kill it! Oh well! I add a video response, check it out if you want!

The Bow he is using does not have Power Coating, as for why he's not using Close Range Coating, I'm not sure to be honest. It'd be a small boost to his damage, considering Close only affects raw damage and he's focusing on Elemental, so that may be why, but I'm not him, so I wouldn't know for sure.

As I understand it, a monsters roar works like an aoe. It gets thicker as it emanates from it. That's why he/she was able to roll through the roar. You just need to be right below it

Not exactly. The roar's "hitbox" lasts for a certain amount of frames, the exact number depends on the monster. Deviljho's roar hitbox only lasts for a very small amount of frames, so it is entirely possible to evade it without evasion +1/2 if you time it just right. The distance away from the monster has no affect on how easy it is to evade, unless you are just far enough away that it doesn't hit you at all.

Doesn't afect elemental dmg after lvl2 charge. 1 flash is enough, past that you should only charge if the attack is way better.

I use the Green Narga bow a lot, it works pretty good. Elemental bows are usually better though.

Depends on the monster, but in most cases elemental bowing will be better than (or at least equivalent to) Kelbi-spam.

i would love too see a worse version of deviljho or rather savage deviljho >:) something like stygian savage 'jho or something like that, where his face is constantly emitting this dark aura around his face with them red eyes as normal mode for it, then when it enrages it's whole body will be covered in dark aura. maybe even bigger and more spikes around on his body too show that he is old and dominant? that would be a deviljho i would love too fight :D

Do you use a talent on your char to get invulnerability frame ? Coz I try to dodge with the small roll the scream of monster, and fail all the time, I succed only with the big jump on the ground, and you're doing it perfectly.

I think the game is balanced perfectly for solo play. It's only when you add in three other competent people that it gets a little ridiculous. Capcom really should have added an HP multiplier for online monsters.

Stamina Thief just comes naturally with the full Gigginox Z set, nothing more than that. It serves no real purpose in this run.

It does a buttload of damage if you have them set up with the right skills. It can one shot several low rank monsters, and it can cut off Alatreon's tail in one hit.

Assuming both masks are maxed out: Artillery mask user should have Guard Boost and Speedy Recovery so that the attack is available as much as possible. For practical use, Lamp mask should have Seven Lives, Hunter, and Speedy Recovery. If you want to one shot monsters, use Last Stand, Attack Boost, and Hunter.

mikeking087 For this run I'm focusing entirely on elemental damage. The Nether bow only has 290 Thunder; Arko Trio (Y) has a native 390 that becomes 460 after Thunder Atk +2. It also has Spread L5 on the L2 charge, which is optimal for elemental spamming.
