I love Otis Redding. The music world became a darker place on December 10, 1967. At approx 3:30pm his plane crashed into Lake Monona with only one survivor

This sure made me happy! I'm vintage 1949 and these artists were front-and-center in my world of college dance parties. The emotional intelligence that Sam and Dave show in leading the crowd is quite impressive, both in their singing and their dancing. Just wow. Thanks for this one. It looks to me like you have a special affection and appreciation for this era.

The Stax tour of Europe in 1967, which included legendary soul acts of the time, was a huge influence on UK music at the time. The black Americn artists were received like royalty in Britain, which sadly was in stark contrast to how they were treated in the US, especially in their home States in the south. Soul music like this was the soundtrack to my teens. All the local bands in my country, Scotland, played their songs and the jukeboxes were full of their hits which were played on repeat by us.

Donald 'Duck' Dunn on bass, Steve Cropper on guitar and Al Jackson on drums, is THE rhythm section you hear on so many Soul (Stax) records from the 60s. You can hear Sam (Sam & Dave) mentioning his name on a song called 'Soulman'.. "Play it Steve!" Take a listen to Wilson "The Wicked" Pickett with "Ninety-Nine And A Half Won't Do from '66...such a great groove! And don't forget to listen to a great Otis Redding called "Down In The Valley", another gem! Pure soul and the drums on that one are too irresistible to NOT move your backbone and shoulders! Love that song... 😎

There are few, if any, songs that build tension as much as Otis' studio version of "Try A Little Tenderness". Otis is one of the 8 greatest all-time soul singers along with Ray, Sam, Aretha, James, Marvin, Smokey and Al.

Since we're talking about time, I was born in 1947 and have been listening to music since about 1951, because the radio was always on WABC NY..... I can remember the years of music, before Rock and Roll even existed ! My brain is like a musical library! Your channel is a much needed window into the treasures of the past! far out!

That instrument is a trumpet with a mute. Mutes are used to change the tone or lower the volume of the horn, and to help brass blend better with other instruments or voices.

James Brown, Otis Redding, Sam cooke, Booker T, etc., were all contemporaries. James Brown and Otis Redding were about the same age. They were all performing at the same time period through the 50s and 60s. Otis Redding and Sam Cooke died far too young in the 60s. These are people that were performing well before I was born but I'm still familiar with them.
