This was really helpful. My twins are 8.5 y.o. and I have always thought I would throw them an epic Harry Potter party for their 11th birthday. While my kids are not yet as fully into Harry Potter as I am, I've been working on it since almost day one -- I'm still planning on it -- and it has grown more and more epic in my mind. So, I *may* just have to get started on creating these wand boxes for the guests to take home their "make your own wand" craft I have planned...I should have 20-30 made over the next 2.5 years, don't ya think! Ha! If in fact they insist on a different theme, my birthday is only 2 days after theirs, so it'll just have to be my party!

Excellent timing! I just bought a second of Bellatrix’s first wand from the NYC Harry Potter store (liked their box better than the one from Universal) and I fully intended to convert it to look more like an Ollivander’s box. Wasn’t sure how to go about it or where to start, but this video lays the blueprint down nicely. Thank you.

I really appreciate this tutorial! I have more wands than boxes and I don't have a nice way of storing them. I will have to modify the length of the template a tad as most of the wands I make are 15 to 18 inches. Thank you fr sharing this one!

I have been so inspired by this! Olivander's and the wands choosing the wizard were always the most magical component of these stories for me so I'm kinda going all out and I'm adapting this a bit to try my hand at some bookbinding skills (which I've always wanted to learn anyway). I'm going to use your measurements to make a book-bound style box with a lid (i.e., using the 80 pt bookbinding board and glues). I'm going to then delve from your measurements for my lid because I'll be covering it with book cloth--I'm making a box for Hermione's wand and I can't help but feel that book cloth is so perfect for this. Then I'll be using your images for the stickers. From here though....with all the supply issues going on right now I've had some trouble getting access to materials for the inside (Fabric for the interior and the ribbon)....and this led to me getting a bit creative...so I've started pairing up all these different colour and pattern combinations between book cloths on the outside and these just like really interesting patterns inside and what ribbons might accent those.... I think I'm just going to have to make at least 5 different boxes just because I can't choose between these ideas now 😂. Anyways, thank you for this!!!

Instead of the fabric (don't know why you doubled it), you want to use organza ribbon the same width as your box. Also, since printer ink is expensive, I will buy plain coloured gift wrap to cover the lids. It's often cheaper. It comes large enough to avoid piecing.

Great tutorial! How do I print out the 11x17 box template on an 8.5 x 11 printer so that I can use it? Or could you include a schematic of the box template with measurements so that I can simply draw one and then cut it out? Thanks for any help...love the channel! Mark

In craft stores lots of great Harry Potter papers for scrapbooking projects. Would make it easy to fold into boxes as it is thick paper.

Faux leather would be difficult to work with for this.

However you have to be prepared to miter the corners, to use book binding glue and to make the lid large enough to allow for spacing the leather. I'd also probably go with a proper book binding box if you're going to cover in fabric using the book binding board at 80 pt weight and the proper glues and such.

This was cool. I think using hot glue for the inserts and fabric would be easier and cheaper. Mainly because he used almost a whole roll of fabric tape for one box and that isn't cheap!!

You may find that placing your top box (as Harry said when using flue powder) diagonally [⤢] across the page will eliminate the need for the little extra pieces either side (depending on the size of your print)

@@wizardryworkshop I did. I followed the video instructions. I am not sure what's going on. It's long enough that I have only about a quarter inch flap that folds over the end. It's just the long flap on either end that is too long. I made the box and the tops inside dimensions are 2.5" x 14" completed. The box top printed template, when put together is 7.5 x 19 1/4'' at its longest and widest. The box came out great except for having to have short end flaps. If you could provide the dimensions for the top and bottom templates, I could probably adjust my printer? Thanks
