What a great interview! As Manu says, It's extremely important to understand the political underpinnings, motivations, and exigencies of these emperors. Not because it justifies cruelty (of course it doesn't, and it's sad that I have to even clarify that) but because it gives us a deeper, richer understanding of history, which is always so much more nuanced and complex than the knee-jerk, anachronistic, and outright communal propaganda that circulates through Whatsapp and has now sneaked its way even to NCERT textbooks!

NCERT did Mughal history a favour by trimming it down in our textbooks. NCERT could have spoken more about jizya, forced conversions, temple demolitions, how the Mughal were more Timurid than Indian etc. but instead they choose to trim Mughal history. This entire textbook 'controversy' especially surrounding Maulana Azad is going down Gandhi's favourite hymn "Abide with me" route. Nobody heard about, except Lutyens Delhi, nobody cared about it except Lutyens Delhi.

Here are some more facts for you about India which you do not want to talk about. Yes, Huan Tsang, also known as Xuanzang, was a Chinese Buddhist monk who traveled to India in the 7th century and spent several years there. He documented his travels in a book called "Records of the Western World" or "Great Tang Records on the Western Regions." In his writings, Huan Tsang did report about hospitals in India. He mentioned that there were hospitals in various parts of the country, particularly in major cities like Pataliputra (modern-day Patna), Varanasi, and Taxila. These hospitals were primarily run by Buddhist monks and nuns, and they provided free medical care to all, regardless of their social status or religion. According to Huan Tsang, the hospitals in India had separate wards for different types of illnesses and injuries, and the patients were treated with various herbal remedies and other medical treatments. He also noted that the hospitals had dedicated staff who looked after the patients and provided them with food and other necessities. Overall, Huan Tsang's accounts provide valuable insights into the state of healthcare in ancient India and the role played by Buddhist institutions in providing medical care to the public.

Madam&Sir,the basic historical fact is that starting 712 AD the basic objective of muslim invaders was to destroy hindu religion and convert hindus to the arab religion. This objective is enshrined in one of the holy books of arab religion as gazwa e hind. Rest is historical politics for reasons unknown to common sense. Prof Truschke is a good example.

In these days of hollow education being imparted for employment, what NCERT tells students to read for passing an exam would remain as a skeleton in their closet. Smart children of the day will grow out of timid and conservative conversation government of the day would wish them to imbibe into their life. Neither the history of India or the world can be masked to a growing generation, if one wish to create men and women of character, value and stature.

The Mughals have become weak, insolent, womanizers and opium-addicts. The accumulated wealth of centuries in the vaults of the north, can be ours. What is reasonable or sensible history depends upon whose reason or sense it is. If a 360 degree view of past is to be taken then it can not be absolute but has to evolve with new tools of analysis. More over ignoring the equivalence of IslAm with sheer violence against all against those who are non believers and trying to equate with wars during hindu kings is absurd!

@@shreeforyou16 This tendency exists through out the world. The syllabus makers want to subtly instill a sense of glory about their past in young minds. I am not a history student. But I think the glorification of Mughals has more than one reason. It partly lies in the fact that our post-independent historians were mostly experts in that era. It was intellectually challenging to study fact-backed study of pre-islamic history because of non-availablity of study materials. Another reason might lie in post-colonialosm. The post-colonial impulse was to prove the Britishers as the enemy of the nation who looted India. The easiest way was to glorify the pre-British kings who were by default Mughals. These are my thoughts. I might be wrong.

Violence inflicted upon entire populations due to their religious beliefs, as demonstrated by historical figures like Taimur, Tipu Sultan, Aurangzeb, and even Akbar, is a topic often addressed by armchair scholars in one-on-one interviews with compliant hosts in a very condescending manner. These scholars speak as if they possess a secular perspective, while insinuating that those discussing history have little understanding of it. Unlike science, where grasp of fundamentals is necessary for comprehension, history is straightforward. One forms opinions based on learned facts. Instances such as rebels being torn apart by elephants do not encompass the type of violence typically discussed. These scholars tend to harangue, especially when faced with accommodating interviewers, implying th 6:34 at others lack the depth to engage with historical discourse.

Another important point is that the content in the history textbooks of 90's , 2000' s and 2010' s is not the same. The pro mughal chapters were more in 80' s and 90's. The people who read those books have been fed with more pro mughal stuff than 2010s readers. So Manu conveniently is talking about 2010's/ 2020's books but not about 90' s/ 80' s. Most people who are vocal about it, are the one's who read 80's & 90's books and talking about it. People like Manu talk about books from 2010's /2020's, which have lesser pro mughal content.
