Ali told Howard "I want to fight Foreman and Frazier in the same night".....................lmao...................only Ali could say something like that. Ali was truly one of a kind. Watching this brings up childhood memories for me. I was 10 when Al fought Frazier the 1st time in Madison Square Garden, my parents went to watch it on closed circuit and I had to stay home and listen to it on the radio(back then fights came on the radio if they were closed circuit). Growing up I only cried after 2 sporting evens, that fight and the "immaculate reception".

Only Brainwashed SUCKERS like you ever believed that Ali was "charismatic". It was just a prepared script that he was acting from. Ali was a 100% Media Creation, and behind that facade was NOTHING. The fact that a POS like him could get so famous is a true Testament to the Raw Power of Propaganda. If there had never been any TV's, Ali would be completely unknown because he was the first "made for TV" Heavyweight Champ. IMO, Ali was the Worst thing that ever happened to boxing. Boxing became more of a Spectacle than a Sport thanks to him.

This is such a great film. Absolutely wonderful. An excellent portrayal of the on-air relationship between The Greatest, Ali, and Howard Cosell, who had the courage to respect the man when he was entirely denigrated by the rest of the world. Cosell had character and courage. He was unafraid to show respect for a man who had every bit as much character and courage. What a pair, Ali and Cosell! I remember them both and I miss them.

This is one of the best Muhammad Ali documentaries I have ever seen. The friendship between Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell is so great to see. I noticed Ali's voice just starting to slow down a bit in 1976. I am glad that this documentary didn't cover the Holmes and Berbick fights. I watched the video on KZbin of the emotional message from Howard Cosell to Muhammad Ali on Ali's 50th Birthday in 1992. I am 50 years old and an Ali fan since the early 1970's. Rest in peace Muhammad Ali the greatest of all time.

They were never friends. If you listen to Mr. Ali's later interviews he stated it over and over. There isn't a grown man on the planet that wants to be called a boy over and over. Cosell constantly took shots directly and indirectly at Ali and other fighters. Cosell conspired with the networks to block on Mr. Ali's fights and try to control his income/purses that he received. The networks never replay these "So Called" great interviews for a reason. They don't want to show the blatant contempt that Cosell and others had for Mr. Ali. 💯

Cosell was a snob and tried to use his education as a lawyer to intellectually browbeat Ali every opportunity he got. He (Cosell) had nothing but contempt for Muhammad, Muhammad's black consciousness and Muhammad's decision to convert to Islam. He (Cosell) earned his livelihood by championing the prejudices and feeding the insecurities of Middle America. The two realized they were theatrically stuck with one another early on and decided to make the best of the situation. They liked each other like Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner liked each other. Cosell was aware of the role he played and position he filled.

I was 14 years old and listening on radio when Cassius Clay ignited the world. Indeed it's a pleasurable walk down memory lane to see these footage of great fights I had heard on radio featuring names like Muhammad Ali, Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Ingemar Johansson and others. I must admit that I felt Cassius Clay had done himself wrong by calling himself Muhammad Ali,but then again I was young and very stupid if not naïve not to understand why he changed his name. Later on I got to realise how imperative and absolutely commendable was this switch to Islam. Thank you ABC for these splendid interviews with Howard Cosell and Muhammad Ali--the man who changed boxing forever.

Your first instincts as a kid were correct. He did indeed do himself wrong by going from Cassius clay who helped free slaves to Muhammad a 7th century self proclaimed prophet who owned over 40 slaves including black slaves. One of the best things I've ever seen. Brings tears to my eyes. . .to see Ali's decline, but to also see what he meant to boxing and the world. To also see a friendship forged over many years is great. Also, seeing Frazier, who was wounded by Ali's barbs shows how enigmatic Ali was. He was likeable, but also obnoxious and hurtful. This documentary is about the exigencies of life, and the demons (pride, fame) that chase us all, and eventually cause our demise.
