@@Phantom20fo Before any rap? This speech was 1974. DJ Kool Herc and Coke La Rock were making Hip Hop in the South Bronx in 1973. And rap existed before that in the form of toasting at Jamaican sound system parties. But Ali's bars definitely helped underground Hip Hop to grow in the 70s.

"i once wrote a poem that says that friendship is a priceless gift that cannot be bought nor sold; but it's value is far greater than a mountain made of gold. for gold is cold and lifeless, it can neither see nor hear, and in times of trouble; it is powerless to cheer. gold, it has no ears to listen, no heart to understand. it cannot bring you comfort or bring you out a helping hand. so, when you ask god for a gift, be THANKFUL if he sends not diamonds, pearls, or riches; but the love of real, *true* friends" never though i could agree with someone great enough that even they can admit that money isn't everything. Ali was truly the greatest of all times!

My father was your biggest fan. I was a small child. We used to listen to your fight with monsters live on the radio at 4 am due to the 7-hour time difference between Turkey and America. Sometimes my father would go to the neighboring house and listen to your fights on the radio, he wouldn't take me with him. I used to pray in my bed for you to win. I was 7 years old in 1974.

I was born in 95 and it was my father who told me about him as this guy who's the best in the world. My father used to say that He's the most electrifying personality you can ever imagine and you're lucky to be born in a time where he's alive. He was the reason I am such a fan of the greatest. I lost my father this year. And we all lost the greatest as well. I really looked up to both of them. My father was my hero and Ali was the champ. Every time I watch these videos, it really hits me right in the feels. May Allah bless them both in the afterlife.

This speech was mainly directed at his snake in the grass promoter, Don King.. Ali knew Don King was trying to set him up for failure and was playing both sides.. Don King thought Undefeated Primed Forman would destroy a mid 30 Ali and Ali caught wind of this.. He let them know what was really going to happen while they all just laughed, Not taking him seriously.. "I'm gonna show YOU how GREAT I AM.." "Ali knew King was deep in Foreman's camp and that the champion retaining was desired by the promoter as much as it was expected."

For sure, and the guy he's talking to is the fight's promoter Don King, who wanted Foreman to win because he saw a chance to make further money promoting future fights with Foreman as champion. After what Foreman had done to Frazier and Norton in his 2 preceding fights, people were afraid that Ali was going to get badly beaten, if not killed, in Zaire. Ali had other ideas 😄

It sounds nice to hear & interpret his words as just words, Ali always had a way with them but the true beauty & brilliance of this speech is within it's context. That man that Ali looked over to to speak those words "I'mma show you how great I am." meant something much more bc the guy actually had Foreman picked. He betted on Foreman & he was one of the guys responsible for making the fight happen! Ali was a great, great man & I don't think there are many people who have the confidence to look over & tell their detractors that they know that they're not expected to will, but go as far as to guarantee the victory. Rest in Paradise Champ.

I practiced repeating this all the way down to the tempo and tone years ago. I thought I'd forgot it but after coming the other day to help an accountant with his computer we sat down and just started talking boxing. We talked Ali briefly, then onto Hearns, Duran, Haglar, Sugar Ray, the Mayweathers, generally the most well known but we ended up up back to Ali. He talked about how he got to meet him just briefly and Ali picked him out in a crowd and shook his hand and how happy he was. I mentioned one of my fav things about him was actually the way he talked and how this was one of my favorite moments of him. I just gave it my best and recitted this whole thing and dude was cracking up at the end of every sentence. Alligator, whale, lighting, thunder, stone, medicine. We both had to get back to our own jobs but it was so fun talking about boxing and Ali.

U want motivation to do anything in life, listen to Ali, learn about his life, what he did, how he lived, how he refused to put the gloves down even when he knew he should have. This is the man who continued to punish his body with fights long after his prime, not for a legacy, he had one. Not for the fame, he has some. Not for money, he had so much he gave loads away. But for people who needed it. This is the man who continued to fight, even with developing Parkinson’s. You want someone to respect, you want someone to admire, go somewhere else. This man, is not even a man anymore. He has risen beyond respect and admiration, he is simply an unwritten word in the dictionary for willpower. Be influenced, be empowered, be motivated to reach out and grab the thing you want. Don’t wish for it. If your not strong enough, reach further, two hands. If you can’t reach, get closer, if u can’t get closer, watch this again. Be empowered more, understand the power of the mind. The subconscious of a human is so much stronger than that of the conscious creation of language we can’t put our true feelings across. This, is why this man is the greatest of all time. I pray there was a heaven for you to see Ali
