Ali on Malcolm X- "Turning my back on Malcolm was one of the mistakes that I regret most in my life. I wish I’d been able to tell Malcolm I was sorry, that he was right about so many things. But he was killed before I got the chance. He was a visionary ahead of us all. …I might never have become a Muslim if it hadn’t been for Malcolm. If I could go back and do it over again, I would never have turned my back on him." RIP ALI and Malcolm X

Thanks you for Clarifying. After watching the Documentary on Malcolm X , I now understand that his understanding of Islam became to grow beyond the ideology that existed at that time in the "Nation of Islam". Malcolm X was really seeing Islam beyond boundaries. And this had become a threat to the leader of the "Nation of Islam." Will surely miss Malcolm X , such a courageous personality. And it is really nice to know that Divine had blessed such a courageous follower. May Divine bless his soul and bless him a high ranking in Heaven . Amin !!!

But remember. Muhammad Ali regretted it. I am sure it made him really sad all his life. And a great Muslim public figure, Dr. Kamran Riaz, shared this picture on the day of Muhammad Ali's passing. rarehistoricalphotos.com/malcolm-x-kidding-around-muhammad-ali-1963/ , and had this to say along with the picture, "One brother was patiently waiting for the other. So he joined him. Finally reunited, finally together. (In paradise, Inshallah (God Willing))" Imagine the meeting of two friends in the next world, Muhammad Ali and Malik Al-Shabaaz (Malcolm X). How happy Muhammad Ali will be to see his friend whom he had mistakenly forsaken. And how happy Malcolm X would be to see that after he had left...his friend actually...made it! He saw the light, changed his life, deeply regretted the breakup of their friendship, and made it to the beautiful side of the Hereafter (God-wIlling). That's the most beautiful thing. Allah hu akbar (God is great). Take care.

This is hard to watch knowing how much Malcolm loved Ali. Even after he was ostracized from NOI he still called Ali his brother. I'm glad Ali finally realized Malcolm was right about NOI even if he cowardly waited until Elijah Muhammad died before he left. Ali had expressed his regret about turning his back on Malcolm. I like to think the brothers are happily reunited. RIP

Ali did not "leave" the NOI, in the classic sense, but moved on with rest of the NOI, upon the death of the hon. Elijah Muhammad, when his son, Wallace, took over. As far as Malcolm being "correct", there are shades and nuances on this, from the correct to the incorrect.

You ignorant misinformed people are naïve enough to believe that this very intelligent, well traveled man was brainwashed for 14 long years??? As humans we all grow and evolve in certain areas of life but he was forever grateful to his Champion. Thank you for the post and thank you Bro. Trash talk? How? Because he spoke on how Malcolm on two occasions, was suspended by THEM, for making reckless statements, the second, more serious, after the death of JFK, when all of the ministers were told to make no comment on it?
@waynejohnson1786
@waynejohnson1786 8 жыл бұрын
OneandOnly First of all, you use way to many commas Second of all, if I remember correctly he said Malcolm should be murdered after he left the NOI Thirdly, I'm not trying to slander Muhammad Ali obviously, I'm huge fan and like I said after Malcolm X he's the American I respect the most. I'm just acknowledging he slandered Malcolm in the past and that's upsetting
@oneandonly3037
@oneandonly3037 8 жыл бұрын
Regarding use of commas, you could be right to an extent, but experience tells me that most people don't use them enough.As far as Ali's statement, yes, it can be argued that he was calling for Malcolm to be killed, but he said that however opposes Mr. Muhammad "dies", which in of itself doesn't specify how the person will expire.But, when you say he slandered Malcolm, you have to prove that he misquoted or outright lied about him, which I just don't see. Perhaps you can produce specific instances where he slandered, lied about what Malcolm said or did. After all, it is not true that he was suspended for his statement about JFK? I admit, I'd not known about the Air France remark and reaction, but I did read that Muhammad was very upset with Malcolm, for that public statement. As far as I recall, his statement was rooted in his anger over the LAPD murder case, and what he saw as divine retribution from Allah, because of that.You see, the world would like for us to believe, that despite his teaching that the white man was the devil, that he was so driven and obsessed, that he lacked general compassion, even when it came to misfortunes involving whites. So, he never gets credit for having the humanity, not only to post a front-page article, expressing grief over JFK's death, but to order all of the ministers to make no comment about it.You should know that the article was in the Muhammad Speaks, BEFORE Malcolm's speech at the Manhattan Center.

Yeh where is the rest. Even in death this man is teaching so much. So young so wise , holding the conversation under his control. The interviewer has a valid point though. All whites are not enemies. Mohammed Ali here is right in saying Elijah did not teach that , you guys taught : bumped of MLK , took away my title unjustly etc etc. That was unjust to take away his title and license to fight. Ministers of other religion were exempt from joining war , if they objected to , so why was his title taken away . Also 90 people had fighting license who had broken laws etc yet it was Ali his license was taken away. That is unjust. This remainder of the conversation is well worth its weight in gold. It is also amazing how Mohammed Ali worked all life building bridges , between races, religions and social status too. Helped the poor , Helped the kids, helped the elderly, ( prevented the elderly jews from getting evicted from old folks home by donating 450,000 dollars. ). Until his last he continued growing. He accetpted the Sufi Islam. Whose main principle is Love God , and Love People for the love of God. Indeed he loved people and people loved him. Same thing and same issues are here today in a different form. One person commiting terror act it is him,who wrong. it is not all Muslims. or Christians or Jews.Some people try to spread the poison against all Muslims these days Which is so wrong.

Infinite Diversity in infinite Combination Once Again Roddenberry showed the way forward! I deeply admire much of what Muhammed Ali said and did,and understand much of what he was saying here.Tribalism is not a 'white' only issue it has been part of Human nature for as long as Man has existed.The 'White' Culture is committing 'Social Suicide' by undermining its own heritage and values.White means nothing it's a political 'Tag'.All people have their own culture and Traditions.These are often based on Geography,Local Industry,Trades and Crafts and Religion,they all have different 'Pro's and Con's but all deserve to be at least recognised and respected as the established identity of that group and of the individual that see themselves as part of this. Respect is the only basis on which we can all find a way forward together,but this can only come with trust and that must be earned.We can live together without losing our Identity,we don't have to become homogenised to co exist,just respect each other!

Divide & conquer ? It was Elijah who decided that division was best between him & his best student when he was guilty of adultery & fornication also it is impossible that he had no knowledge of the criminal activities of his Temples. Suddenly he has concerned 4 the president's death when his teachings called all Pink people devils & sat his brilliant student down but yet Malcolm sought Pinks. Ali called Malcolm a friend & brother then turned on him in favor of an adulterer. It's called Karma in less than 10 years this beloved Nation would be destroyed NEVER 2 attain it's glory that it shouldn't have had 2 begin with.

People have to understand watching this that Muhammad Ali was in fear of his life and the lives of members of his family from the people who plotted, planned, and assassinated Malcolm X. Clearly without Malcolm X's input and guidance along with singer Sam Cooke Muhammad Ali would have not talked the way he talked and or took the stands that he took and be the celebrated figure that he was in life and the figure that he has become in death and this is no disrespect to Elijah Muhammad

If more Muslims could hold a conversation like Ali without losing their temper the world would be a better place. Debate is good, debate is healthy. Can you imagine trying to debate with these Daish MF's? No chance. There are misapprehensions on all sides and discussion is the ONLY way to learn and move on. You were adored here in the UK and you are the greatest of all time!! RIP Ali.

Muhammad Ali was not an active member of The Nation of Islam when this interview took place. All these comments are an eater of witness to what Ali was saying. It just makes you comfortable to try and twist his words for your own benefit. Malcolm X said Elijah Muhammad cleaned him up and made him the man that he was.

I loved and respected Ali as well as the NOI, at one point. I think the point that he was making here was that "actions speak for themselves." You don't need anyone to convince you of what's transparent, same as it is in 2016: "National racism that's existed for centuries." However, Ali and all of the NOI were extremely brainwashed to allow their leader(Elijah)to commit his sins, remain on top and then plan to execute one of their own(Malcolm X) for exposing them. Even Ali himself came to resent that and later left the NOI.

To Ali's understanding at that time X was a traitor. Even so he tries not to speak ill of him, as he was dead. We all develop and grow (hopefully) through time. Ali was always very vocal and public, so it's easy to criticise him. But this is a man not yet 30 you're seeing here. Alot of us would freely admit to talking some wild shit in our twenties which we'd never say now. I don't think he'd anything to be embarrassed about from this or any other interview he did. He calmly and civilly stated his position and the reasons for it.

At this time, the show, "Firing Line" was a syndicated program. They had to ring a bell to signal the end of segments of the program, in order to allow local commercial stations to have their commercial breaks. According to Wikipedia, some of the show's affiliates were NET affiliates (the predecessor to PBS), and did not have that limitation. "Firing Line" was syndicated from 1966 until 1971, and then aired on PBS from 1971 until 1999. This is just a segment of a full episode of "Firing Line". I do not know if the full show is available for viewing on KZbin, or anywhere else on the Internet. At this time, the show was taped at WOR Channel 9, New York, New York. Perhaps the episode in question might be available in their archives, or perhaps at one of the NET affiliates that aired the program at that time.

Everybody confuses the value of the man with the value of the truth he speaks. As if they stop lying for a second, and attain a position of a God. Anyone can speak the truth for a minute, an hour, a day. Truth is a powerful thing, even in bits, but truth cannot abandon even the lowest abuser of it. Truth shows the character of a man by consistency, fluidity, and grace. Honesty is the tool Ali found to communicate, not Elijah Muhammad's truth, Ali's.

The brother was within his every right to leave the organization for a righteous cause being that Islam is not the religion, or way of life for us being the children of Israel any way, but it is the religion, or way of life for Ishmael being the forefather of the Arab nations, but we whose forefathers are of Negroid and or Indian decent being the so call Blacks, Hispanic, and Native American Indians who are indeed the Israelites that THE HOLY SCRIPTURES were only written by and for as noted in Psalms 147:19-20.
