I seen the fight via closed circuit at the Embassy Hall in W.N.Y., N.J. where Chuck had many fights as a. local club fighter. I used to spar with his sparring partner at Bufano’s gym in Jersey City,N.J. . Mike Rooney who later became Ali’s chief sparring partner. The ref also wasn’t stopping Ali from pushing the man’s head down…. That said it wasn’t much of a fight. Ali was ‘lackluster’ didn’t look that good. In shape he finishes Wepner in 5 or 6 rounds. The knockdown in the ninth looked more like an off balance slip than a hard power punch. Anyway a payday for both fighters.
