The Greatest Boxer Ever. I am a total fucking die hard Ali fan. He changed boxing with a new approach that every one thought was awkward/unorthodox. With the bouncing around, Rhythm style. Love this man as a human being. His name will live on forever until the world ends and he is currently a Living Legend...

You can see Ali in 67 was faster and fitter with more zip than after his years out of the ring. He could dance for longer and throw more punches late in a fight. He was deprived of prime years aged 25-28. He was so good that years into his comeback and past his prime, he controlled and ko'd prime unbeaten Foreman who more than 2 decades later regained a title himself despite being 46, fat and having had many years out of the ring.

Yes, to think what Ali might have been like aged 25-8 instead of being out of the ring. He would surely have broken all records. But his achievements even past his best are still legendary anyway.

I don’t think Terrell ever won a single round or even landed a punch but he did somehow go the distance with the great Ali. I guess that’s worth something. I think George Chuvallo also went the distance with Ali - the only other fighter to do it after he won the title from Liston in 64 and before they stripped him of his title in 67. Ali was not popular with the mass media in those days - except for Howard Cosell who was always in Ali’s corner and who was nearly alone in standing up for him after they stripped him of title and pulled his boxing license. Howard was a good man and a real friend of the great Ali. He wasn’t afraid to criticize him and sometimes he was brutally honest but he still loved the great man.

Ali was great for sure, but I'll have to go with Tyson, or at least say they were equal. Tyson was 5'10" with a 71" inch wingspan. As far as size goes, he was just an average guy, unlike most of the people he fought. Tyson was consistently at a disadvantage in his fights, and he had to overcome a lot of obstacles because of that in his career. The fact that he was able to do that and still be mentioned in the same breath as Ali says more about him as a fighter than anything.

You're an idiot Steve Smith. And Tyson couldn't even beat Douglas, Danny Williams, Holyfield twice, and Lennox Lewis. Ali avenged all his losses except when he was 39 yrs old with Parkinsons already vs holmes and berbick . Tyson never avenged the ass kickings he received. Also Ali never got kod. Tyson got kod every loss he had. Ali in his prime TOYS with Tyson.

Watched Terrell's interview many years later, about this fight. In it he came across as a gentleman. Yet here I see him hitting Ali with rabbit punches. I am amazed that he wasn't penalized for repeating those. Reminded me of Ali's 1975 fight with Chuck Wepner where Chuck, too, hit Ali with such punches. Maybe Terrell wasn't much of a gentleman, after all.

there you go...'Bum of the month'. The name itself is suggestive. While he was beating bums at his prime, Ali even lost his prime due to the Vietnam issue, and...when he came back he had to face the best competition of heavyweight history. That was the golden era of boxing, and Ali beat them all.

The Foreman fight is not Ali's only claim to fame! By KO'ing Foreman he truly made people believe that he was the Greatest, because he proved that he was still the best in the game. People can say what they want but Ali should have beaten Frazier in 1971. Frazier won the fight but any normal fighter would have been KO'd. He effectively ended Joe's career that night because Joe was never the same again. Ali won in Manila which is still the greatest fight ever. Can't compare 70's Ali to 60s Ali.

No he did not train. He may have put the gloves on every now and again but he never did serious training! Ali spent those 3 and a half years dealing with his legal issues, flying around the country giving lectures at colleges, and preaching in Muslim mosques. I just read the book Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight; Cassius Clay vs the United States of America. That both explains those years in great detail.

Marciano was an extremely lucky man..Faced no real threat except Jersey Joy and in the first was he landed a very very lucky punch when Jersey was ahead on scorecards. Frazier in 1971 or Ali in 1966 or Forman in 1973 ,all would have annihilated him..Even Sonny Liston would have knocked him out easily in early rounds.

Sonny Liston was probably as strong as any heavyweight ever. He could KO guys down with a jab. The loss against Martin was his last fight so thats not fair. I'm not going to say that Ali fought great fighters (Cooper, mildenburger, London) but they were not terrible. When Holmes sparred with Ali, Ali was past his prime. Holmes never got in the ring with Ali during the 60's. In 1988 Holmes was not even close to the fighter he was in the early 80's, he was almost 40 when he fought Tyson.

This muscle fiber twitching was radiating all over his body in early 88 and this muscle twitching in his fibers actually caused his head to twitch. If you watch his pre89 fights, you see tyson twitching his head all the time. This was from countless hrs in the gym to condition himself as the best conditioned fighter ever and his defensive first posture was so quick and prepared to go 12 rounds constantly twitching his upper body and the opponents shots kept missing and this discombobulated them.

in the post-fight interview terrel said that he could not hit Ali because there were 3 of him in the ring; he was fighting 3 boxers, than, 1 minute later in that interview changed it to 4 Ali's. Then, weeks later he changed it to those 3 boxers "that gauged my eyes". Then he said that he had to change his strategy. What strategy? he hit ali below the waist, in the kidney and behind the head for 15 rounds, he made his fight plan stick; what did he mean he had to change his fight plan??? what a dope head he was...
@thunderbrand

@LordMike HnK you know your boxing. All Terrell's attempts to steal points were made by illegal strikes either on the kidney, behind the head and while in a clutch. Then years later he declared that he was winning until Ali supposedly poked his eye in order to cheat him, haha. What a sore loser, Ali is the only reason we're talking about that idiot right now.

Tyson never fought anyone with Ali's hand speed, or foot speed. Tyson was tremendously fit, in fact I have never seen a fighter as ripped as he was but I would say Ali was better conditioned because he could dance for 15 rds easily. I never said Tyson was overrated. In his prime he was as dominant as anyone in history but he was not as good as Ali. Again stop bringing the 1970's Ali into the conversation. He was a totally different fighter from 1965-1967 than he was in the 70's.

Ali was the best ever not even debatable. He would have destroyed every fighter you names. He would have out pointed or stopped Rocky because of cuts, Ko'd Tyson because Tyson hated to get hit and had no heart. Ali would have done to Dempsey what Tunney did to him. Holyfield would have been a good fight but Holyfield had problems with guys with a good jam. Holyfield couldn't stop Foreman so he wouldn't have beaten Ali. The Klitschkos, they dominate in an era of nobodies, Ali would have beat them

Ali had his best years taken away from him when he was exiled. Every person who knows anything about boxing knows that. A 66 Ali wins a unanimous decision over a 71 frazier. Tyson in his prime could not go 15rds with Ali. He was not capable, he would have gotten discouraged. Those Tyson fights that went the distance were against fighters that were not nearly as good as Ali.
