Dude so relatable archery mule deer hunting is some of the most frustrating and rewarding pursuits, what a crazy turn of events to have the buck run into the arrow. Sometimes that’s what it takes some uncontrollable factor’s sometimes they help sometimes they don’t. Bucks are just as likely to hunch down or stay still. I missed a 210 inch non typical at 60 super step shot I held low thinking he’d hunch down, he was looking right at me, arrow went right under his chest he didn’t move a muscle . Luckily I stuck with it and grounded out days of passing 10-15 160-170 class and one 180 I passed at 35 yards looking for something next level day 6 I connected on a big typical 4x4 190 3/8 shot him in the chest frontal. I shot a bull elk first day out at 10 feet with my bow broadside I knew I was going to be punished for it with my mule tag. Seems like if you don’t go all in effort on every stalk and have something dramatic in your favour you lose. I love seeing the failed stalks its real, it shows how not everyone can just show up and do this shit it takes work, dedication, and a little aggression to seal the deal with something to make it happen at the moment of truth in the final approach of the stalk. Keep up the awesome work.

I’m happy that it all worked out, but imagine if the deer wasn’t recovered and it was a wounded deer? Would people still congratulate the hunter for that shot or not? I think as a hunter, when we become desperate we forget our hunting morals (take a good shot, avoid wounding a deer etc) and are willing to do things we wouldn’t do at the beginning of our hunt. I think it is important for all hunters even after a successful hunt to think about what they could have done better or choices they should’ve made to make the hunt go more smoothly and or reduce the chance of wounding an animal. Great video, props to the hunter for taking that shot and getting it done, but at the very beginning of that shot and seeing what he was aiming at….I think it was not a good choice to let that arrow fly.
@MuleyFreak2 жыл бұрын
While you make some great points the hunter was 100 yards ahead of the camera man and had completely different angles. Erik could see some lung 🫁 and sent it and ultimately made a perfect shot.
@erikvanwoerkom18962 жыл бұрын
My angle was completely different than Payton's angle; hence, why I decided to take the shot. It was a small opening, but it was an opening and I knew I would execute given the opportunity. I don't recommend all folks taking a shot like this.
@obionewheelkenobi6892 жыл бұрын
He Even says he could see antler neck n head no vitals. Only part that would make since is if you thought your arrow would arc over brush into vitals. I do really enjoy watching all your content and find you guys very entertaining. So glad it was a clean kill. Ik I have got lost in the moment before and taken shots I should not have.
@rodger6022 жыл бұрын
With how close that brush was to the buck and how thin the brush was, the trajectory of a 75 yard shot, I’d take that shot. Erik shoots a heavy arrow and at speeds most people don’t shoot at. Knowing your arrow’s trajectory give people the information to take informed decisions on the shot.
@MuleyFreak2 жыл бұрын
@@rodger602 well said, brother. Additionally, the #Leupold Full Draw RX5 predicts that arrow arc and gives one a fairly solid idea of how that arrow is going to fly.
