Epic production Tom. I appreciate the efforts and resources you put into this to educate us. I’m glad you mentioned this hissing from the audio output, I kept thinking there something wrong with my mic and headset. Thank you.

Tom.. great work and thanks so much.. You said that there is a possible sync issue with OBS. In the case of just recording a video podcast utilizing the ATM and Rodecaster, any ideas on a stand alone sync recorder such as a Atomos or something? I am doing a two camera two mic and would like a final output to edit.

I have tried using 1/4 inch TS mono cables to a 1/8 inch TRS stereo cable and I'm getting nothing out of the Rodecaster. The Blackmagic tech support person I spoke to said the 1/4 inch cable had to be stereo which I can't find.

Tom by default the mic inputs on the ATEM are mic level inputs. Before connecting a line level output (e.g. Rodcaster) you need to go into the ATEM settings and switch the mic input to line level. Failure to do so will result in overdriven audio on the ATEM as you first saw in your video when the meter was pegged red. FYI.

I bought the same red cable that Tom showed in his video for my RCP II and changed the ATEM mic1 to "line". When I stream or record to disk from the ATEM I get a buzzing or humming noise. If I use OBS to stream or record and use the RCP II main as my audio source everything works just fine. I'm still working to figure this out :) Here is a sample of what I am getting... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmSxY2ific2WpNE

So I’m curious, do you have to use a computer to do a livestream with the ATEM & Rodecaster Pro 2 or can’t you just hook up your mics to Rodecaster Pro 2 and cameras to ATEM and stream from there?

I have to give you props on your ability to squeeze so much content out of one piece of gear (the rode procaster), I need to take some notes for my channel. I lost count of how many videos involve that thing but I won't lie, I've watched all of them. @Tom Buck thank you so much for this!! I had been using the CamLink 4K for my Canon so that I could go live, and I had a Rodecaster Pro for my audio for my podcasts. I struggled with the video quality and zoom and all of that good stuff before! After some research and watching several of your videos, my atem is on its way and now I know exactly how I should attach it to my rodecaster! Thank you for all of these videos!! You have a new subscriber and I’ll be following for more!! Thanks for the excellent advice!

Haha, I'm so glad to hear this. I didn't realize how much Rode stuff I had until I started making videos about it. It really just sits in that sweet spot of price/features/quality. There are other really great brands out there too of course, but I also like that Rode designs and makes everything themselves in Australia.
@panosru

@@tombuck I wasn't aware of that! I first time heard from your video, and then I run a mini fact check, and indeed Rode has the whole production chain in Australia, which is really great! Hey Tom, got myself one of the mini pro's today and hooked it up to the Rodecaster Pro using the 1/4 LR Monitor jack. Took a while to get the audio levels right . One thing that got me stumped for a while was I needed to change the mic1 setting on the mini pro to "line" as the default was "mic". Completed a live stream test and all worked out great. Switching from PC to MAC to Cam1 was nice. Although mini hdmi to hdmi didn't seem to work via the mini pro for Cam 2 :-( Even managed to test Teams, Zoom and some OBS projector output. Wouldn't have done all this without watching your video!!

Fast forward to today. ATEM Mini Pro has Fairlight, which makes the Rodecaster Pro practically redundant for the audio aspect of a video streaming setup. I would use an iPad into Mic 2, for sound effects on the ATEM. The Rodecaster would be useful for handling mix minus scenarios, however. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for all your excellent videos, by the way.

I use them both connected to the MacBook Pro through USB C, with OBS. I usually get between 150 to 200 ms delay on the video so if I delay the audio about that much, it syncs perfectly.

This is a great video! Question - I teach a lot of piano lessons via Zoom but could never get my Livetrak L-8 to work properly with it. After some research I found some people had the same issue and that it related to Zoom not liking more than two audio channels. I started using a virtual mixer (Loopback) to mix all my channels into 2 and that worked for a while, but I ended up eventually switching to the Scarlett 2i2, which works great. Have you heard of this or had any issues with Zoom not liking the Rodecaster? Note - I’m using a Mid-2014 MacBook Pro.

@AaronAbernethy
@AaronAbernethy 3 жыл бұрын
Nope - all you get is a stereo output from the Rodecaster, but that's a good thing. Although Audio Follow Video is available on the ATEM, if you were shooting something like a podcast you'd want the audio level constant and just do the switching in the ATEM to your speaker. Automatic sounds like a nice idea, but if people started talking to each other quickly it'd start switching back and forth unpleasantly.

Hey Travis! When I did high school basketball games, we ran into a computer using OBS, but you could stream directly from the Pro too. Wire runs are a huge pain, but there are a lot of nice wireless units like the Hollyland Mars that can help a lot. You might even want to take a look at the YoloBox Pro as an all-in-one solution. If I were still teaching, I think that’s what I’d be using for games.

Hi Tom - Ive been using the ATEM with a mixer running it back to ATEM via monitor out then selecting the Blackmagic audio in Zoom. Recently after being on it for 30minutes or so the audio just cuts out. My students can't hear me or my drums however, I can still hear them. I check the monitoring on Zoom when this happens and its like it just freezes but the monitoring on my ATEM software control shows that the sound is still there. This happens on any platform e.g. Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams and Webex. Have you experienced this issue ? This doesn't happen when I stream live tho :

Hi Tom, I absolutely love thus channel!! You are the guy who knows how people like to watch and learn! Thank you! I have a question for you 😊 I purchased the atem mini pro and I have a 4 camera 4 mic video podcast we just started. I want to connect my podtrak p8 mixer with the atem mini pro so at the end of the show I have one file which contains the audio and the video. Any suggestions how should I connect all this stuff together? I know how to connect the cameras to the atem mini pro, but I don't know how to connect my mixer to the atem mini pro and get one file with everything at the end. I bought a hard drive so I can record everything to the hard drive but that one uses the USB c port of the atem mini pro. I know you have a video on how to connect the atem mini pro with the rodecaster pro but since I plan to record to the hard drive that means that I already used the usb c port on the atem mini pro. And you mentioned that the prefered way to connect the atem mini pro with your laptop using the USB c port. As you may see Im a little bit confused, l'm a beginner and I have this silly question how to set up this atem mini pro with the podtrak p8 and with 4 cameras correctly so I don't really need to edit anything at the end. I want one file what I can just upload to KZbin and that's it. Can you please help me out?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Roland! There are a few different ways to do this, but here's what I do that I've found to be the easiest/most reliable: 1. Connect the P8 and ATEM separately to your computer via USB 2. Use an app like Ecamm or OBS to bring in each device as an audio and video source 3. Record directly within the app (Ecamm or OBS). You can even output to your external hard drive if you want. Even though the apps were originally developed for streaming, they have a built in record-only option. I love Ecamm, but it is Mac only. OBS is Mac/PC and it's free (just a little more "fiddly").

We’re also using the ATEM+RCP. We like to plug each unit directly to the MacBook. But we also use an iPad as our main video source. The iPad runs into the ATEM via an HDMI adapter. Audio from the iPad runs directly into the RCP via the Phone input channel. Then we use OBS to capture and a StreamDeck XL as the main control surface. We also run background music from an iPhone into the RCP via the Bluetooth Chanel. We love this set up as it takes a lot of the workload off the MacBook CPU. The downside is we do get some strange audio interference from the iPad. We’re not sure if it’s the channel or maybe a faulty cable. But with a little background music the interference isn’t noticeable and we can always clean it up a bit more in post. But we would like to eliminate it eventually.

Hello Tom, Please talk through the fact that you can make the ATEM inputs accept "LINE LEVEL" signals rather than the excess gain of the "microphone level" input. This adjustment will greatly improve the sound of the system. Other mixers may have XLR line level outputs and those can also be input to the ATEM with the input set to "LINE LEVEL".

Good point. I'm experimenting with this when using Oktava MK-12 mic into the audio interface, then output from there into the Atem's Input. Then also the input gain in the Atem Mini Software as well as output levels are important.
