Multi Flash Firing with Sony HVL-F28RM Flash and a7C Camera

This video demonstrates the use of the Multi Flash Firing feature, with the Sony HVL-F28RM flash unit and the a7C camera. The camera was set to Manual exposure mode for an exposure of one second at f/27 and ISO 400. On screen 10 of the Camera Settings1 menu, External Flash Settings--External Flash Firing Settings--Multi Flash Firing was selected. The Flash Interval was set to 20 Hz, and the number of flashes was set to 20, with flash power set to 1/16.

hi Alex, when I go to external flash settings the field is blank and doesn't allow me to edit anything although the flash is mounted properly and fires ?? any idea why this may be so?

It may be that the flash you are using is not compatible with this setting. Here is an excerpt from my book on the a7C camera that discusses this menu option: This menu option lets you adjust the settings of a compatible Sony flash unit or the Sony Wireless Radio Commander unit that is attached to the camera’s flash shoe. The first thing to note about this option is that not all Sony flash units are compatible with it. The first unit I tried it with, the Sony HVL-F43M, was not compatible. I then found that another flash I had, the Sony HVL-F45RM, is compatible, but only if it has its software updated. I went to the following site to find out what units are compatible: www.sony.net/dics/7c. I then went to another site to download the software needed to update the software in the flash: www.sony.com/ electronics/support/camera-camcorder-accessoriesflashes- and-lights/hvl-f45rm/downloads/00016696. After I downloaded the new software to the flash using a USB cable, the flash unit became compatible with the External Flash Setting menu option and I could test its functioning, as set out below. I also found that the Sony Wireless Radio Commander, model number FA-WRC1M, needed to have its firmware updated before the camera would recognize it for use with the External Flash Setting menu option. I updated the firmware from www.sony.com/electronics/ support/camera-camcorder-accessories-flashes-andlights/ fa-wrc1m/downloads/00016702. Once the firmware was updated, this unit was recognized and a few settings could be adjusted from the camera.

Very informative! Have you ever been able to get the a7c to pass the 1/160 shutter speed limit with a flash?

It's been a while since I used that camera, but I don't recall ever being able to use the flash at a faster speed than the 1/160 second setting.

Yes, at least you can make those two settings at the same time. I have not experimented with that setup, but the settings are possible.

Thanks. Is there a camera which capable to increase iso just while flash burns?. It would help reduce flash power and ND filter thickness if background is bright.
