I know this is an old video but you seriously saved me almost $200.00! My multifunction switch went out on my 03 Park Avenue. Got a new one from Rock Auto and almost took it to a shop for installation. All these videos made it seem like an awful job requiring the airbag and steering wheel removal. Lesson learned. Never judge a car repair video by its seat covers.... Watched all the videos concerning this job, and this one is the best - by far! For those that don't have a E6 socket, I used a regular 4mm socket (6 point) and it worked fine. FYI - My 1999 Buick Regal LS only had this bolt on the right (ignition) side. Also, I had to use some brute strength to pull out my steering wheel adjustment lever. I suspect some are easier than others, just don't give up. I'm sure using leverage and prying it out may be easier, but I did not want to damage any interior pieces.

The two prong plug connects the side of the steering column and it is for the control. That two prong plug actually has a locking clip as well meaning once it's hooked up it really shouldn't come apart so I would recommend hooking it up. Unless the vehicle doesn't have cruise control or you're not going to be using cruise control

One pt. = you just need to purchase the switch assembly without the new harness because 99% of the time it's switch fatigue and not wiring related. That makes that job much easier since you can just remove the old switch from the present connectors and plug in the new switch.
@rcharne8 жыл бұрын
This is so cool man! I am also Robert, from Pittsburgh, and I am a Steeler fan (and Penguins and Pirates) And a GM w-body fan. I have a '02 Pontiac Grand Prix with very high mileage, and the high beams stopped turning on for me a while ago. Then, just recently, my windshield washer fluid function stopped working. After googling to find out what is the cause of the problems, the advice was to replace the multi-function switch. I decided to look here on KZbin for a video for more specifics, and found your video. Very timely as I see you just posted this up a few weeks ago. Anyways, I was already familiar with tearing apart the steering column as I replaced the ignition switch last year. Little did I know then that I would be replacing the MFS this year. I went well, I installed a used MFS and tested everything and I now have high beams and windshield washer pump operation again. I have experienced many issues with my GP due to the wear and tear of higher miles, but so far, I have managed to fix all the big items and I am still running it. So glad that I do not take this car to the dealer for repairs (as I used to do with other cars in the past) I have heard a new MFS can cost over $300, and many dealers charge an hour for labor to install the MFS. Ouch, that is pricey. Good to have watched your video. Take care!

Yes. I have never had a problem with the HUD. I have heard of others having the display go dim, or it shutting off completely due to a internal circuit board. @@edubb2491 My switch was busted for sure.. barely hanging on. Interesting issue you have. I would start at the harness for the multiswitch and see if any of the wires looks burnt (the insulation on the wires). The multiswith has two harness that go on either side of a larger harness which is held in with a 7mm bolt. Take that bolt off and see if you can notice any arching or burnt ends. If there is none, I would say it's probably the ignition. Does it do it even if you're in park and turn on the turn signal?
