For me, they are right on the edge of this being a viable solution as a gigging axe...the three things it still needs is as follows: 1) Stereo output...when using in ears, I like hearing my guitar effects done in stereo...2) Programmable alternate tuning for presets...this tech goes all the way back to Roland's VG-99 which videos I see on youtube go all the way back to 2008, and Line 6's James Tyler Variax which has been around since 2010... 3) Needs a Volume / Wah controlled in Bluetooth fashion as well along with the preset switching footswitch that is already in place for this guitar...now the GTRS S800 already has a trem, but the following, since this is a modeling guitar and amp solution, might be a better alternative choice vs a mechanical trem...strike a deal with Virtual Jeff for their what I would call their trem modeling tech...I'd work on that thing to where you could adjust the feel of it so that it could be adjusted to what the guitarist is used to...thanks for the video and covering this guitar...IMO, they're almost there...
@ScottUhlMusic2 жыл бұрын
I could see those 3 being important to some people. I definitely do miss the tuning option (#2 you mentioned) from my Variax. I'm sure they will keep advancing and get to those things such as the volume or expression input on the pedal at some point in the next versions of it. They are coming out with the Professional Version of it... I don't think it has those, but they are constantly upgrading. I'm not worried about the stereo thing, and I don't really use wah so they aren't necessary to me. So for me, those are not deal breakers and it's definitely worth it! Therefore, it's the main guitar I use now. Thanks for the comment.
@RobTackettCovers2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic For probably 90% of the songs we do in the bands I'm in, it would do just fine with...there's just some stuff that it wouldn't because of the alternate tuning deal...my guess it they are probably going to see how the market takes to it, and if it's a big hit, then they'll probably take the next steps with it...thanks for responding back and hope you and yours are doing great!

Thanks!
@edwinjhdzc7 ай бұрын
@@HumbleHeartMinistry Mine came in perfect condition. Playability is good (normal, not outstanding nor poor). As always when buying a new guitar, I changed the strings and set it up. Thumbs up to the fret work on mine though. About 10 months using it every weekend and I'm satisfied with it. Minor gigs, small gatherings, teaching, practicing and recreational recording are perfectly done with this guitar. I use Bias Fx, Neural DSP plug-ins and, although the built in FX from this guitar sound great, it does not catch up with the quality those two developers do. However, I don't miss those FX when playing it, but if i compare them, this guitar's fx are quite lower ranked imo. The app does work fine, I haven't had any issues with it until now. Within an hour of taping your phones screen you'll know where everything is. There are a couple of interesting features. A looper and a built in drum machine. The only "issue" i've had a couple of times is that there must be some sort of "stand by" mode in the guitar fx. And when doing a brief pause at a gig, the volume went "off" until i had pushed the "neon" knob. Quite annoying to me but not that serious either. I probably need to look at my settings but I keep forgetting about it so, it is that serious haha. Is it worth the money? Absolutely. To me it's a great option to have. It is really convenient to avoid carrying a ton of gear. Just plug and play, straight in line. Great guitar for a beginner since the student will have access to a decent amount of fxs, amp simulations, and will get an idea of tone modeling with the app. The battery life is decent. Not outstanding but still great. 1 charge will give like 4-5 hours of non-stopping playing. The guitar works perfeclty fine as a "normal" one. It's got passive pickups, but the main reason I got it was to not carry anything else other than my gigbag. The footswitch works fine. Links with your phone fast and easy. After all, if you already have your main gear, this will be an extra tool that will definitely fit anyone. Unless you're too much into analog pedals and tube amps, this should be a good purchase. Downside: The "gifted" gigbag is cheap, i don't use it that much. I guess just once. Hope this helps you out. Cheers!

If you went into an external pedal, sure you could get stereo. That’s how guitar works in general. It’s almost always mono out, and then pedals can do stereo fx. You can leave the iPad at home. Great question! Once it’s programmed you don’t need the app anymore. Although if you do want to make tweaks at the gig, it’s worth having on your phone. It’s pretty funny to go “I need to adjust my guitar…. Let me just do that on the app really quick”
@RobCmusic2 жыл бұрын
I have one of these. As with most modellers that I've tried I really only found one amp model that worked for me. That's enough though. I pretty much just use the Plexi model. I wasn't impressed with the reverb or modulations at all and the delay is ok I guess. However, it was great playing with my duo last weekend straight in, but I decided it would be even better if I also bring a delay/reverb pedal and just use the amp/cab/boost pedal models in the GTRS... Oh and the pickup emulations. I just set them to be CS 60s Strat and set them to be softer/warmer than the stock pickups. I also set the superknob to switch between stock and tone capture pickups. As a guitar I find it really nice to play and I was after a modernish Strat anyway, so the DSP stuff is a bonus for me. My conclusion is that I would use this with a full band as a regular guitar into my normal amp rig (My amp and pedal all go on a compact pedalboard anyway) and I can still use the alternative pickup tones. It'll also shift the pitch of my guitar down for certain songs in a pinch. For my duo and for other studio related work I'll use it as a guitar and amp, direct. I hope to get a video or two done before too long.
@ScottUhlMusic2 жыл бұрын
Nice, and yeah with any amp modelers there are a lot that aren’t useable, but as long as you find one or two. I was actually quite impressed with the ones in here personally!
@RobCmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic Actually, I do like several of the amp models to be clear, but I found the Plexi to be the only one that responded the way I liked when I put a boost/overdrive in front of it without getting too loud compared to the non-boosted preset. For recording there's loads of good tones in there. For live use I find it works if I'm able to keep it really simple. It's just so amazing that I can do my regular duo gig and I only have to carry my guitar case and maybe a small bag for a couple of spare cables, guitar stand or whatever. All the best Scott

Scott, what is the neck profile on the blue S800 you have? I just received a P801 (I think), that is the model with the roasted maple fingerboard. The neck profile is considerably different from the P800 I got (which I sent back because the neck was crooked). The S800 and P800 seem to be a C neck profile. The P801 (Mint Green and White on Amazon) I received has an asymmetrical U neck profile-much thicker (3mm at the crest, but asymmetrical) and square shouldered at the top side, rounded at the bottom side ("baseball bat").

I’m not sure what the differences between the 801 and 800 neck wise since I’ve only played the 800. I love my 800 and it is a workhorse for me now. I play to get the P series one 👍
@davidstewart4149 Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic I'm pretty sure there's a difference between the P models labeled 800 and 801 beyond just the fingerboard-I'm pretty sure that the 800, with rosewood fingerboard, has a modern C neck profile, while the 801, with roasted maple fingerboard, has an asymmetrical U neck profile. The latter is much thicker-about 3mm at the middle of the neck, which is a substantial difference carried (most of) the way around (most of, because it's asymmetrical). Today I returned the P801 I received yesterday, because that U neck felt way too chunky for my hands. I got a P800 in the Blue Night color three weeks ago, and while the neck was crooked, I didn't note it being chunky, and so I don't think it was the U profile but the C. I've ordered a Tiffany Blue P800, which I will have on 5/21/23, so I'll be able to check that neck and know for certain if they're different (pretty sure they are). I'll make a note here when I know.
@davidstewart4149 Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic Now that I have a P800 (rosewood fingerboard) in my hands: The neck is, I would say, a D shape, the shoulders much less pronounced than the U-shaped P801 neck (the roasted maple fingerboard). It's about 1mm thinner at the deepest point (middle of the width) at the 2nd fret than the P801. It is symmetrical, unlike the U neck on the P801, and the shoulders are curved from side to side. They have a little broader curve than a C neck, and unlike the asymmetrical U neck on the P801 there is no flat side coming off the fingerboard on the top side, and it's much less bulky all around. While its D shape is a touch thicker than the C neck shape, it is nowhere near as hand-filling as the U shape. 1mm less than the U shape all around the neck makes a lot of difference, especially with the pronounced flat expanse on the low-string side of the P801's neck. In sum, there is a significant shape and thickness difference between the two neck types on the P series models, the P800 vs the P801.

Do you need a newer computer to do updates, or can you use only a phone and WiFi? Can you use all the effects while charging? I think the rep at NAMM said they may have a headless version coming? Thanks for posting this review

Some sounds are awesome. Is a pitch-shifter also available in the guitar? Or have I to buy a drop D-pedal? Are the sounds usable for Drop C or drop A?

@@ScottUhlMusic thank you for the answer. For the money it is okay. Have you tried C-Tuning and going to Standard E or lower to A from C. It could help. If it does not I wonder how to connect it with a Drop D-Pedal .

@@ScottUhlMusic but how to Connect it with the mooer System?
@JayKughan Жыл бұрын
How does it work if you use a wah pedal (not auto-wah)? The wah needs to be somewhere upfront (before/after drives). But if I added a wah pedal 1st thing after the guitar, it would only enter the signal chain after the onboard effects, right? Hope you look into it & get back to us. Much appreciated if you did look into it. Cheers!
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
You would need a physical wah pedal since this doesn’t have an expression. But yeah the best way to do it would be after the processing, that would be the best way IMO. Hopefully in a future update they include an expression pedal to use with this system. I don’t need one, but I know a lot of people do want one 👍

@@ScottUhlMusic Don't know how a wah after effects and/or modulations & the preamp section is gonna sound. That'll be like plugging a wah into the FX loop.
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
Yeah wah before usually sounds better. But I don’t know how you could get a way into it any other way since it doesn’t have an fx loop. The auto wah on it is pretty decent and still useable imo.

The P800 would be fantastic for a gigging musician if Mooer’s sound engine didn’t sound like 💩 Even their MRNS are subpar, especially the cleans and breakup tones. That’s sad since it’s such a useful concept in an instrument.
